The Lord of the Rings: Gollum for PC is a third-person action-adventure game that follows the character of everyone’s favourite split-personality villain, Gollum. The game is set before the events depicted in the Lords of the Rings trilogy – and can be seen as Gollum/ Smeagol’s origin story, if you will. ABOUT THE GAME You will play as Gollum, enjoying yourself as you pick up skills that he has mastered and honed over the last 500 years or so. There are plenty of favourite Middle-Earth locations to explore, each playing an important part in the shaping of Gollum into the crazed being who half creeps us out, half captures our sympathies. Play through Mirkwood; Cirith Ungol and Barad-Dur Tower – see more about these below. Gandalf and the elven king of the time, Thranduil (who just happens to be Legolas’s future dad) make appearances, as do both sides of Gollum’s split personality. And, just in case blood-thirsty orcs aren’t scary enough for you, Shelob, the immense and terrifyingly hungry spider, appears in the game too. Gollum – and his kinder Hobbit side, Smeagol – have fabulous climbing and parkouring skills, but the character doesn’t start out like the Gollum we all know and love – he starts out as a normal Hobbit and it is, in part, your decisions that cause the Gollum mutations away from the Smeagol norm. You could always make the morally correct choices: but this isn’t always wise as you will see below. THE NITTY GRITTY Gollum’s skills include stealth, with Gollum creeping about, using the shadows to his advantage. The game’s narrative arc is not completely spent in the darkness, protecting his precious from all and sundry – Gollum’s time as a slave under the dark tower is covered as is his time as a captive with the elves of Mirkwood. As Gollum is small and frail, he must use guile and cunning along with stealth and his superb climbing skills to best his enemies, rather than facing them with a swinging sword. The section of the game based in Mordor includes the tutorial, so you will always start there, seeing and avoiding Orcs and learning your way around Gollum’s controls and seeing the dual options when the Smeagol and Gollum sides battle one another. Gollum can lure unwary travellers to a quiet place to dispatch them, but this drains his stamina metre, so keep an eye on it, and – where possible – do your killing with stealth and distraction instead. There is no skill tree to master: Gollum has been waiting for you for 500 years and already has all the fully mastered skills he needs to win: it is you who must quickly learn to keep up! LOCATIONS IN THE GAME The game developers are obviously fans of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit before it, as they have included plenty of Tolkienesque locations in Middle Earth: Barad-Dur Tower: Being ‘soft’ or weak in Sauron’s home base, a place oozing with evil: also known as the Dark Tower with good reason, could get you killed so playing up the evil Gollum side might be to your advantage here, no matter how much you want to resist the lure of the Ring Mirkwood: Populated by elves, Mirkwood is the opposite of Barad-Dur Tower, and responds better to ‘good’ choices by Gollum’s softer side so you will get to experience both sides of Gollum’s psyche. Mirkwood is a kinder place, with far fewer enemies to strike down and much more of a puzzle platformer vibe to it Cirith Ungol: the dark orc-populated path through the mountains of Mordor which also plays home to the giant arachnid, Shelob, is the place where Frodo comes across Gollum in later years

MARKUS WULFHART (THE HUNTSMARSHAL’S EXPEDITION) UNIQUE FACTION MECHANICS: Emperor’s Mandate As Markus Wulfhart expands Imperial interests in Lustria, his stature in the eyes of the Emperor grows. As a result, he receives a broadening range of increasingly advanced Empire units to aid in his expedition. As new territory is captured, his building options also diversify. In the Eye of the Vortex campaign, Markus will ultimately face the Spirit of the Jungle himself, Nakai the Wanderer, to decide who holds dominion over the jungles of Lustria. Wulfhart’s campaign progress is measured by how effectively he fulfils the Emperor’s Mandate. Expansion, successful military operations and other campaign activities increase his acclaim, which is tracked on the Emperor’s Mandate bar. The Emperor’s Mandate also dictates the quality of units available to Wulfhart via the Imperial Supplies system, which dispatches better units for him to recruit from time to time. As the Mandate bar fills, he will also unlock bonuses to further improve these units, plus new recruitment buildings. In the Eye of the Vortex campaign, filling the Emperor’s Mandate bar will cause Nakai the Wanderer to issue a final, do-or-die challenge to Markus Wulfhart – a call to battle that will become the stuff of legend! Hostility The lands beyond the Empire are inimical to man, and Wulfhart’s actions will not go unnoticed. While defeating the local inhabitants improves Wulfhart’s Imperial standing and increases his supply of fresh troops, it also enrages Lustria’s native denizens… Wulfhart’s Hostility rating reflects the current level of Lustria’s retaliation against his military activities. Aggressive activities, such as military actions and raiding, can raise Hostility through five levels. Conversely, a more passive approach to the campaign will cause Hostility to fall. Each Hostility level has a negative effect on Wulfhart’s campaign, but is also a measure of his aggression against the Lizardmen. As he ascends through the Hostility levels, reinforcements are dispatched more frequently via the Imperial Supplies system. The strength of these reinforcements is still dictated by the Emperor’s Mandate bar. When peak Hostility is reached, a Lizardmen task-force is dispatched with the aim of defeating Wulfhart. He will instantly receive an Imperial Supplies drop and will need to survive sustained assault for a number of turns before the hostility bar resets. Wulfhart’s Hunters Scattered throughout Lustria are four of the finest Hunters that ever lived. Wulfhart may attempt to track them down and acquire their services to aid in the expedition’s success, and subsequently developing each Hunter’s unique attributes and learning the tales of their past deeds. Wulfhart can search for the four Hunters in the Jungles of Lustria by completing special missions. The Hunters each have bespoke stories which are uncovered through unique missions. After defeating Grom and scattering his hordes, Eltharion swore that no Orc or Goblin filth would ever set foot in his lands again. But Grom has other designs. It lies in ruins, untouched since Grom’s previous Waaagh!, but Eltharion seeks to rebuild it in Tor Yvresse’s defence. In Eltharion's campaign, Athel Tamarha is represented by a new panel where the player rebuilds structures to gain numerous unique benefits. In addition, Eltharion can use his unique Warden’s Cage ability against enemy Heroes and Lords in battle. Should they fall while under its influence, they will be imprisoned in Athel Tamarha for interrogation… Athel Tamarha has a number of structures across two unique chains which can be rebuilt. Each enhances Tor Yvresse’s defence rating and grants the following: * The Silent Sentinels chain can increase Tor Yvresse’s defence rating and enable the recruitment and upgrading of elite Mistwalker units, plus increasing recruitment capacities for several unique elite unit types available to Eltharion. * The Watchers of Yvresse chain enable the interrogation of captured Heroes and Lords, improvements to the Mist of Yvresse, and bonuses to Eltharion’s Influence. * Through the questioning, vanquishing and indoctrination of captives, Eltharion can gain useful information and other benefits. Mist of Yvresse Tor Yvresse will become progressively shrouded by an enchanted mist, enhancing all of Eltharion's troops and disrupting enemies caught within it. * Provides the unique Army Ability ‘Envelop in Mist’ which enhances your troops’ performance when fighting within its influence * Athel Tamarha upgrades grant additional effects as the Mist become stronger. * Increasing the strength of the Mist of Yvresse will eventually cause it to cover all of Ulthuan as a protective aid. Defence of Yvresse Eltharion will gradually build up defensive power at Tor Yvresse, as Eltharion's homeland becomes increasingly fortified against invasion. * At the campaign outset, the city of Tor Yvresse will begin in a damaged state until upgrades are completed, progressing the city into rebuilt then fortified states. This is reflected in any battles fought over Tor Yvresse, affording increasingly stronger defensive abilities and options for Eltharion. * The Yvresse defence level also expands the Mist of Yvresse to cover further regions of Ulthuan, enhancing Eltharion’s forces and weakening interlopers. As the player upgrades in each category, they will unlock further ancillaries and, eventually, new regiments of renown unique to the Forbidden workshop. Workshop progress requires food and Warp Fuel, a new resource gathered after battles. New research tiers in the Workshop may be unlocked by completing unique missions. But the deadliest invention by far that the Workshop offers is the Warpstorm Doomrocket. Warpstorm Doomrockets Doomrockets are outlandishly powerful weapons, deployed in battle as an Army Ability. They are crafted in the Forbidden Workshop, and can be stockpiled for use, though only one Doomrocket from the stockpile may be launched per battle. Perhaps the most powerful weapon wielded by any of the Races of WARHAMMER II, a single Doomrocket is capable of wiping out multiple units in a single strike, sending dust and debris skywards in an incinerating mushroom-cloud! Doomsphere While the Under-Empire is a feature newly-available to Skaven factions (see the Doomsayer Update Notes for more details), only Clan Skryre can build the Doomsphere within the Under-Cities they establish. This immense Warpstone bomb is powerful enough to completely destroy any settlement it is constructed below. Unique Lord – Warlock Master The Warlock Master is a caster Lord who uses the Lore of Ruin in battle. Warlock Masters have unique skills which grant further bonuses to Doom Flayers, Doomwheels and Weapons Teams. They may be upgraded to ride a Doom Flayer or Doomwheel in battle. Unique Units * Ratling Gun Weapons Team: Specialist anti-infantry gun teams bearing the rotating, rapid-fire Ratling Gun. Units: * Ghoritch: A former general of Archaon the Everchosen, once ignored his commander’s orders and was sent to Hell Pit as punishment. There Throt transplanted his brain into the body of a Rat Ogre, creating an aberration of incredible speed, strength and intelligence. Ghoritch is recruitable as a Legendary Hero. * Packmaster: This Hero unit performs a support role with AoE and targeted buffs, summons Wolf Rats to the thick of battle, and may be mounted on a Brood Horror * Wolf Rats: Highly mobile pack-beasts which come in poisonous and armour-piercing varieties * Mutant Rat Ogre: a large single-entity monster adept at brawling. * Brood Horror: A huge, fast-moving monster adept at punching through infantry lines. Lords of the Fallen for PC is an action role-playing game, both the successor to and a reboot of the 2014 game of the same name. The game is played with third-person point of view. ABOUT THE GAME You will begin by creating and customising your avatar, choosing from one of several character classes (see below for some details). Two worlds or realms are layered on top of each other: one being the living world, the other the world of the dead. Axiom is the realm of the living and it is in this space that the game will mostly play out, with glimpses of and visits to Umbral, the spectral realm of the dead. These worlds share the same physical space, and – usefully – an impossible task (escape from an enclosed cave, for example) might be not only possible, but positively easy in the alternate realm which might have secret tunnels leading to freedom, for example. If you are killed in Axiom, you respawn in the same place, but in Umbral this time. You will have to find a way to return to Axiom and regather your lost loot, XP etc. However, if you are killed again, before you’ve had the chance to get back to Axiom, you will revert to your last save point, and lose any unsaved loot. Scripted save points are rare (on either side) but you can create your own save points using remnants of Umbral monsters (of which there are many!) Each level of the game boasts an impressive boss fight, and you will have to kill them more than once. Your first kill results in the bosses transforming and hitting you even harder for a second go-round. The first boss you will face is Pieta, who begins as an immense knight with impressive light magic spells, who transforms into an angel who can fly over your head, and throws even more intense light magic at you. You will almost certainly not survive your first encounter with her – the game has Soulslike vibes in that regard! – but you will learn each time you face up to her. Boglord, the second boss, is very different being… quite gross, let’s say! Enemies have a nasty habit of hiding behind boxes and then lunging out at just the right moment to try and shove you off the edge of cliffs and mountains. But you can also do this back to them, and it is most satisfying to anticipate an attack and send the enemies plummeting away. Also master Soul Flaying, which involves grabbing their soul from their body and throwing it off the nearest high place – their body will follow. The ambiance of the two realms couldn’t be more different: living Axiom is bathed in a warm, comforting glow, while deathly Umbral is oppressively dark and depraved with flesh-like tendrils that climb and spread, eyeballs that constantly watch you, and bodies all plastered against the wall. As you play in Axiom, you use a lantern that shines a light into Umbral so you can see the differences between the two realms. Sometimes, as mentioned above, this reveals a secret path or hidden treasure, and occasionally it can reveal an Umbral parasite boosting the powers of the enemy you are fighting – taking care of that will even the odds a bit! Sometimes you need to go into Umbral itself, usually to interact with these hidden pathways or loot, or to create a path that will then exist in Axiom. However, remember that dying in Umbral tends to be more costly than dying in Axiom – you will lose your loot! But the game is well balanced and having the option to jump realms adds to the excitement of exploration, especially when you find treasure in one realm that doesn’t exist on the other. THE NITTY GRITTY You will use melee weapons and magic to defeat your enemies, and you can also play cooperatively with another player or against a friend in player-vs-player mode. Game play is fast and responsive, showing that the game has taken advantage of all the technological advances since the previous game. Your choice of class at the beginning of the game is just a starting point, and you can then add skills and weapons that you like, to create a very customised character that embraces your personal preferences in fighting skills and style. As you defeat enemies, you earn in-game currency, which can be swapped for status points at Vestiges (sort of checkpoints in the game) – you need to do this to upgrade. When you are killed in the game, in Axiom, your currency is dropped, so you must hurry to complete the level in the Umbral to get back to your dropped possessions. If you die in the Umbral, your currency is lost. The whole main game will take about forty or fifty hours to play through, and given the level of challenge you will be facing for much of this time, you will find that to be more than enough! Enemy attacks are very precisely timed, allowing you just enough time to dodge with no margin for error, which wilk jeep your heartrate high and your attention engaged. ABOUT THE OBAMA FACTION PACK The Overseers With long experience of government and administration, the authoritarian people of Obama are unsurpassed in controlling people and trade. The Sakai clan, the rulers of Obama, are firm supporters of the Shogunate. The original Sakai lord of the domain, Sakai Tadakatsu, was one of the roju, or elders, under Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first Shogun. This was a hugely important post in the affairs of Japan, and Tadakatsu was correspondingly powerful within the Shogunate's administration. The Sakai clan could also claim to be related to the Minamoto clan, and to be cousins of both the Tokugawa and the Matsudaira clans. They are, then, very well connected. Their domain is worthy of them. The town of Obama had been a prosperous trading port, but its importance declined as Japan closed itself off from the outside world. It remained an important link to Ezo, modern Hokkaido. Because of their long experience of government and administration, they are experts at managing the population of their lands. They receive a taxation bonus and are highly efficient at repression. They also spend money wisely, and they pay less upkeep for land units. All their garrison troops are also of high quality. ABOUT THE TSU FACTION PACK The Betrayers Rising from humble roots, the people of Tsu are wise, artful and astute strategists. Their use of Ninja is unsurpassed on the battlefield and in covert operations. The Todo clan, rulers of the Tsu domain, cannot claim a proud samurai lineage like many of the other great clans of Japan. Their beginnings are actually rather humble: Todo Takatora was an ashigaru, a peasant footsoldier, during the great wars of the Sengoku Jidai. So what? So too was the mighty general Toyotomi Hideyoshi, revered as one of the three great unifiers of Japan! Lords of the Fallen for PC is an action role-playing game, both the successor to and a reboot of the 2014 game of the same name. The game is played with third-person point of view. ABOUT THE GAME You will begin by creating and customising your avatar, choosing from one of several character classes (see below for some details). Two worlds or realms are layered on top of each other: one being the living world, the other the world of the dead. Axiom is the realm of the living and it is in this space that the game will mostly play out, with glimpses of and visits to Umbral, the spectral realm of the dead. These worlds share the same physical space, and – usefully – an impossible task (escape from an enclosed cave, for example) might be not only possible, but positively easy in the alternate realm which might have secret tunnels leading to freedom, for example. If you are killed in Axiom, you respawn in the same place, but in Umbral this time. You will have to find a way to return to Axiom and regather your lost loot, XP etc. However, if you are killed again, before you’ve had the chance to get back to Axiom, you will revert to your last save point, and lose any unsaved loot. Scripted save points are rare (on either side) but you can create your own save points using remnants of Umbral monsters (of which there are many!) Each level of the game boasts an impressive boss fight, and you will have to kill them more than once. Your first kill results in the bosses transforming and hitting you even harder for a second go-round. The first boss you will face is Pieta, who begins as an immense knight with impressive light magic spells, who transforms into an angel who can fly over your head, and throws even more intense light magic at you. You will almost certainly not survive your first encounter with her – the game has Soulslike vibes in that regard! – but you will learn each time you face up to her. Boglord, the second boss, is very different being… quite gross, let’s say! Enemies have a nasty habit of hiding behind boxes and then lunging out at just the right moment to try and shove you off the edge of cliffs and mountains. But you can also do this back to them, and it is most satisfying to anticipate an attack and send the enemies plummeting away. Also master Soul Flaying, which involves grabbing their soul from their body and throwing it off the nearest high place – their body will follow. The ambiance of the two realms couldn’t be more different: living Axiom is bathed in a warm, comforting glow, while deathly Umbral is oppressively dark and depraved with flesh-like tendrils that climb and spread, eyeballs that constantly watch you, and bodies all plastered against the wall. As you play in Axiom, you use a lantern that shines a light into Umbral so you can see the differences between the two realms. Sometimes, as mentioned above, this reveals a secret path or hidden treasure, and occasionally it can reveal an Umbral parasite boosting the powers of the enemy you are fighting – taking care of that will even the odds a bit! Sometimes you need to go into Umbral itself, usually to interact with these hidden pathways or loot, or to create a path that will then exist in Axiom. However, remember that dying in Umbral tends to be more costly than dying in Axiom – you will lose your loot! But the game is well balanced and having the option to jump realms adds to the excitement of exploration, especially when you find treasure in one realm that doesn’t exist on the other. THE NITTY GRITTY You will use melee weapons and magic to defeat your enemies, and you can also play cooperatively with another player or against a friend in player-vs-player mode. Game play is fast and responsive, showing that the game has taken advantage of all the technological advances since the previous game. Your choice of class at the beginning of the game is just a starting point, and you can then add skills and weapons that you like, to create a very customised character that embraces your personal preferences in fighting skills and style. As you defeat enemies, you earn in-game currency, which can be swapped for status points at Vestiges (sort of checkpoints in the game) – you need to do this to upgrade. When you are killed in the game, in Axiom, your currency is dropped, so you must hurry to complete the level in the Umbral to get back to your dropped possessions. If you die in the Umbral, your currency is lost. The whole main game will take about forty or fifty hours to play through, and given the level of challenge you will be facing for much of this time, you will find that to be more than enough! Enemy attacks are very precisely timed, allowing you just enough time to dodge with no margin for error, which wilk jeep your heartrate high and your attention engaged.
