Resident Evil VII: Biohazard is an action adventure game that is the seventh major installment in the popular series. The authors from Capcom's in-house studio took the key elements of survival horror, such as the harsh climate, high difficulty level and always too little ammunition, but implemented them in a modern twist, offering a first-person view and extensive exploration sections. Resident Evil VII: Biohazard was announced at E3 2016, where the change of perspective and emphasis on the elements of horror were warmly received by the press and fans.
The game is a clear departure from the canon of the series. The previous editions told about the fight of well-trained soldiers with the atrocities created by corporations devoid of any moral restraints. Resident Evil VII: Biohazard is different. This time we play the role of an ordinary gray man named Ethan, who in search of his missing wife goes to a gloomy and seemingly abandoned mansion located in the south of the United States. Another novelty is the fact that, for the first time in the history of the series, the script was written by a non-Japanese writer, Richard Pearsey. This author previously developed plots for games such as F.E.A.R .: First Encounter Assault Recon or Spec Ops: The Line.
Resident Evil VII: Biohazard is a return to the atmosphere of horror and the genre of survival horror. While playing, we explore locations and fight enemies; we also have to deal with logical puzzles occasionally. Individual places should be carefully searched, as this is often rewarded with valuable items. Combined with the high level of difficulty, it causes the player to travel the maps very carefully, while visiting the stages in a hurry may result in unexpected death or missing something important. Most puzzles, on the other hand, rely on manipulating various mechanisms and allow you to take a breath for a moment between successive events straight from your worst nightmares. Significant changes took place in the presentation of the action. The tradition of the series was to play from the third-person perspective, but here we observe the events from the eyes of the hero. The game puts more emphasis on exploration than before, and the main character is clearly weaker, so the fight is a much more serious challenge. This does not mean, however, that the campaign is spent on sneaking: clashes are frequent and very brutal. During the skirmishes, we use a wide arsenal of various weapons, making use of, among others with pistols, shotguns, flamethrowers, explosives and even a chainsaw.
