Lost Horizon is a point-and-click adventure game set in the 1930s, in which the players' task is to unravel the mystery of Nazi expeditions to search for effective means of extermination. The game was developed by the German studio Animation Arts, the creator of the popular Secret Files adventure series . The production debuted in the summer of 2010 on PCs, and a few years later it was also converted to mobile platforms (Apple iOS and Android).
Story
The action of the game takes place in 1936, and during the game we play the role of three different characters: former British soldier and now smuggler Fenton Paddock - sent on a mission to locate a scientific expedition lost in Tibet, Richard Weston - the son of the governor and leader of this expedition, and Kim - a young resident of Hong Kong. Fenton's expedition is, however, only an introduction to a real adventure, in which the background constantly scrolls: occultism, ancient artifacts and forgotten deities. The plot of the game is multi-layered and multi-threaded, and during it we learn about the smuggler's turbulent past, why he was removed from the army and what his relations were with the Kim family and both Westons. Lost Horizontakes us, among others to the ancient temples of Tibet radiating tranquility, the bustling night life of Hong Kong or the colorful Morocco. We also find ourselves in the magnificent and thoroughly English governor's palace and put ourselves in danger in the dark and dingy port streets.
Gameplay
Despite the fact that the whole story has a rather serious background (the uncertain political situation around the world and the spreading Nazism), the game features Secret Files characteristic of the developerssense of humor and a number of jocular scenes. The common element of both games is the ability to switch between characters and the need to cooperate between them at certain moments of the game. What is new here is the introduction (instead of the current journal) of the narrator's character, who, at the explicit request of the player, gives a number of useful tips. Some puzzles can be solved in two ways, e.g. by skillfully conducting a dialogue with a given NPC who will want to help you, or by dealing with it yourself. During the game, there are also short time trials that can be repeated until successful, and board puzzles with two difficulty levels (to choose from).
