Clive Barker’s Dark Worlds - Phil And Sarah Stokes - Bog - Abrams - Plusbog.dk

A deep dive into the creative world and personal archive of the master of horror Clive Barker, from Hellraiser and Candyman to today. “I’ve seen the future of horror . . . and his name is Clive Barker. ” In the mid-1980s, Stephen King inducted a young English novelist into the world of great genre writers, and since then, this genius creator has only continued to expand his field of activity. Created by his two most loyal collaborators, Phil and Sarah Stokes, Clive Barker’s Dark Worlds is the first book to shed light on the massive scope of Barker’s creative work. With the help of Barker himself, this book contains exclusive insight from those who have worked with him creatively and professionally, alongside analyses of his works and comments over four decades from industry contemporaries and friends such as Ramsey Campbell, Quentin Tarantino, Neil Gaiman, China Miéville, Peter Straub, Armistead Maupin, J.G. Ballard, Wes Craven, and many more. The book spans Barker’s world, highlighting classics such as the character Pinhead, an icon in the pantheon of horror cinema; the Hellraiser series of 11 films and a forthcoming HBO miniseries; and the cult films Nightbreed and Candyman , the latter of which was rebooted as a Jordan Peele production in 2021. In literature, Barker has written the horror anthology series Books of Blood, which was recently adapted by Hulu, as well as numerous fantasy sagas. Weaveworld and The Great and Secret Show have become instant genre classics, and Abarat is a beloved bestselling series for young adults. In the world of comics, Barker has partnered with major publishers such as Marvel and BOOM! Studios. This tireless creator has also dipped his toes into the worlds of toys, video games, and art, and his incredible collection of paintings, drawings, and photographs have been exhibited in galleries over the world. The Master and Margarita - Mikhail Bulgakov - Bog - Abrams - Plusbog.dk

The Master and Margarita - Mikhail Bulgakov - Bog - Abrams - Plusbog.dk

This is the acclaimed, bestselling translation of Mikhail Bulgakov’s masterwork, an undisputed classic of Russian and world literature. “A soaring, dazzling novel.” ( New York Times ) A novel of inexhaustible energy, humor, and philosophical depth, The Master and Margarita is an audacious revision of the stories of Faust and Pontius Pilate and is recognized as one of the essential classics of modern literature. This edition's superb English translation by Diana Burgin and Katherine Tiernan O’Connor’s, along with an afterword and extensive commentary by Ellendea Proffer Teasley, heighten the pleasure of exploring this classic. The novel’s vision of Soviet life in the 1930s is so ferociously accurate that it could not be published during its author’s lifetime and appeared only in a censored edition in the 1960s. Its truths are so enduring that its language has become part of the common Russian speech. One hot spring, the devil arrives in Moscow, accompanied by a retinue that includes a beautiful naked witch and an immense talking black cat with a fondness for chess and vodka. The visitors quickly wreak havoc in a city that refuses to believe in either God or Satan. But they also bring peace to two unhappy Muscovites: one is the Master, a writer pilloried for daring to write a novel about Christ and Pontius Pilate; the other is Margarita, who loves the Master so deeply that she is willing to literally go to hell for him.

My Life in 24 Frames per Second - Rintaro - Bog - Abrams - Plusbog.dk

My Life in 24 Frames per Second - Rintaro - Bog - Abrams - Plusbog.dk

An autobiography penned in manga form from legendary anime director Rintaro, spanning his postwar childhood, his directorial debut, and the subsequent hit series and films, up to the present day The unsung legend of Japanese anime, Rintaro. Born in 1941 in Tokyo, Rintaro joined the Japanese animated film company Toei Animation in 1958 at the young age of 17. Even in his humble beginnings, when he was involved in putting the finishing touches on the animated film Legend of the White Serpent , Rintaro made unfathomable waves for anime as we know it, with Hayao Miyazaki citing it as a core inspiration in becoming an animator and director rather than a manga artist. In 1960, Rintaro transferred to Mushi Production, an animation studio established and overseen by the “god of manga” Osamu Tezuka himself. He made his directorial debut with the TV anime Astro Boy (1963–66) and served as the chief director for the first-ever full-color TV anime in Japan, Kimba the White Lion , which aired from 1965 and made peerless contributions to the development of technical Japanese anime culture during its early years. Rintaro returned to Toei in 1977 and began work on Jetter Mars. In 1978, his directorial work on Space Pirate Captain Harlock caught the attention of the then-president of Toei Animation, leading to his appointment as the director of the theatrical version of Galaxy Express 999 . Released in 1979, this film became a record-breaking hit. After being chosen by Haruki Kadokawa to direct Genma Wars in 1983, Rintaro shifted their main activities to studio Madhouse, directing major films such as The Dagger of Kamui , Yona Yona Penguin , and the critically acclaimed Metropolis . A unique journey that will take us from postwar Japan to the release of the film Metropolis in 2001, My Life in 24 Images per Second is a journey filled with encounters, opportunities, endless nights, jazz, cigarettes, but above all, cinema. Follow Rintaro’s memoir as key milestones in the history of Japanese animation are unearthed in insightful clarity.

Filipinx - Ligaya Mishan - Bog - Abrams - Plusbog.dk

In her debut cookbook Filipinx , acclaimed and award-winning chef Angela Dimayuga shares her passion for Filipino food with home cooks, cowritten with food writer Ligaya Mishan. Filipinx offers 100 deeply personal recipes—many of them dishes that define home for Angela Dimayuga and the more than four million people of Filipino descent in the United States. The book tells the story of how Dimayuga grew up in an immigrant family in Northern California, trained in restaurant kitchens in New York City—learning to make everything from bistro fare to Asian American cuisine—then returned to her roots, discovering in her family’s home cooking the same intense attention to detail and technique she’d found in fine dining.
