John Tavener's Ode Of Saint Andrew Of Crete for SSSATBB. This work was comissioned by the Southern Arts Festival with funds provided by the Southern Arts Council. Composers Note: Saint Andrew of Crete was born in Damascus c. 650, and died in the early 8th century. In the Orthodox Church, his Great Canon is appointed to be read in its entirety at the Thursday Morning Service in the fifth week of Great Lent. In this work I have set the first Ode of Saint Andrew's great poem, with interpolations of the refrain "Have mercy upon me, O God, have mercy upon me" in English, Greek and Church Slavonic. - J.T. John Tavener: Ikon Of Saint Cuthbert Of Lindisfarne

A work for unaccompanied SATTBB choir, constructed in the form of a Byzantine Canon. The work was commissioned by James Lancelot and the Choir of Durham Cathedral who gave the first performance on the occasion of the 1300th anniversary of the death of St. Cuthbert: 20th March, 1987.'Commissioned by James Lancelot and the Choir of Durham Cathedral who gave its first performance on the 20th of March 1987, the 1300th anniversary of St Cuthbert's death. Structurally modelled on a Byzantine Canon, Ikon of St Cuthbert, 'an ikon of music and words in the place of wood and paint, seeks to recall, in its stylized form, the personal aura of Cuthbert, Saint of Lindisfarne'. The text is again by Mother Thekla, a contemplation on Cuthbert's life from his early piety and life as a monk, acts of spiritual healing, consecration as a bishop and retreat into solitude, to his death on Farne and ultimate burial in Durham. Imagery of water runs throughout the verses.

An arrangement of one of the songs from The Little Prince, a fabulous, moving and melodic opera by Rachel Portman with luxurious counter melodies and placid harmonies. This opera is based on French philosopher and aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupery's novella, Le Petit Prince, an international classic penned in 1943. It was composed by Rachel Portman, the first woman to win an Oscar for a film score (Emma-1996), with text by Nicholas Wright. While Saint-Exupery's moving parable of self-discovery is the foundation of the opera's appeal, it is Portman's music that gives the work its dramatic impact. Offrande

Kaija Saariaho’s Offrande was written as a wedding gift for Marianna Karttunen et Nicolas Saint-Bris in 2014. The first public performance took place on 13 February 2017 at La Maison de la Radio France, Paris, as part of theFestival Présences, dedicated to the composer’s music, and was given by Anssi Karttunen, violoncello and Olivier Latry, organ.

Louis Durey: Le Bestiaire

Durey?s song-cycle (written for voice and piano or thirteen instruments) is made up of 25 individual songs, each to a text by Guillaume Apollinaire and each very short. Most take just a page or two of music, and contain just a line or two of verse. The concept of the work is nearly identical to that of Camille Saint-Saens? Carnival of the Animals: each song of Le Bestiare describes an individual animal.

John Tavener: In Memory

In Memory was written in memory of Glen Schaefer, and all the departed souls of America. The words come from the Orthodox Funeral Service and from a text by Mother Thekla. For SATB Choir A Cappella. John Tavener: The music should be sung with a shining solemnity, and should ideally be performed in a church or other building with reverberant acoustics. The solo bass sections refer to St Hermann of Alaska (the pre-eminent Orthodox saint of the Americas) and should be performed in the manner of a Byzantine pasltis.
