Mellow Cello's tracks are designed to offer an introduction to jazz and popular music styles for young cellists, whether they are beginners or at a slightly more advanced level. The first pieces only use open strings, both in pizzicato and in the bow: the cellist gains experience in counting rests as well as in exploring the four strings. Pieces 4 through 9 involve the fingers, starting with the first finger only, until all four are used. The pieces in the second half of the book allow the cellist to explore a variety of styles of jazz. A piano accompaniment part is included for concerts.
