Problem-solving is an important part of our lives. Dialectical Networking Thinking (DNT) is a soft-systems methodology aimed at complex problem-solving. The modern (dynamic) business is a demanding and complex process. It requires permanent learning, innovating, and adapting to the requirements of demanding customers. The latter must be able to face their challenges and change themselves accordingly, first of all by innovating their own values and knowledge, especially concerning holistic complex problem-solving in business. DNT enables us to do this. A key issue namely keeps surfacing: what is the correct way to tackle mastering and solving complex problems, in order for objectives and solutions to be high quality and sustained. In daily practices, unfortunately, one tends to underestimate the complexity of problems one faces and tries to solve them (wrongly and irresponsibly) one-sidedly. This approach causes new problems to emerge, perhaps even more intricate ones. This problem can be avoided by using DNT, following the steps briefed above. DNT can enjoy evolution to help solve complex problems, if all preconditions are met for its application. They include, along with knowledge and motivated teams, an innovation-seeking organization and its prevailing culture. In the best-case scenario, every OBS member would accept DNT because such a capacity provides the upper hand in modern competition. On the other hand, limitation to single disciplines, lack of co-operation on an interdisciplinary basis and in teamwork will unavoidably fail in the modern innovative economy.

Building an Intelligent Assisted Instructional Design System - Jun Ming Su - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

Building an Intelligent Assisted Instructional Design System - Jun Ming Su - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

With the rapid growth of Internet, E-learning systems have become more and more popular because they can enable learners to study at any time and any location, so the need of learning resources and instructional design is also increasing rapidly. Many international standards have been proposed to model the structures and guiding rules of learning activities for the purpose of sharing and reusing. However, there are still no effective models to describe complex instructional design knowledge, and the effective authoring systems of instructional design and learning content navigating sequence are also required. Moreover, without an intelligent knowledge management scheme, the huge amount of learning resources will confuse the teachers in learning activity design. It implies that how to visualise and integrate the heterogeneous instructional design and navigating sequence knowledge in a learning platform becomes an important issue. Therefore, the author proposes an Intelligent Assisted Instructional Design System (IAIDS), which is an instructional design expert system consisting of Knowledge Representation (KR) module to model the instructional design graphically, knowledge acquisition (KA) module to assist teachers to edit instructional design and navigating sequence efficiently, Knowledge Management (KM) module to support teachers to manage and retrieve learning contents in repositories, and Knowledge Inference (KI) module to display the learning activity in a portable and modifiable platform.

Productive Forces of Design - Vladimir Aleksandrovich Strokov - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

Productive Forces of Design - Vladimir Aleksandrovich Strokov - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

A new economy is being considered, in which economic activity of society and a set of relations are taking shape not only at the stages of production, distribution, exchange and consumption, but also at the design stage, forming the basis of post-industrial development. The goals of post-industrial development have been formulated: design and production of complex high-tech varieties of types of products satisfying the strategic needs of the country (being the country's wealth). There are functional and parametric varieties. Functional varieties differ in the number of consumer functions (properties), for example, the first stage of the Falcon 9 rocket launches the vehicle, returns to the launch site and lands on the platform. Parametric varieties have different parameters of the same consumer functions, for example, the varieties of aircraft "Airbus" A380 and A381 differ in the number of seats (180 and 236) and flight range (6100 km and 5900 km). Varieties may have a program management by satisfaction of needs, replacing a person, for example, the first stage of the Falcon 9 rocket has this program management. For the first time in the world practice, the decisive role of the productive forces of computer-aided design in fulfilling the goals of post-industrial development has been shown. The productive forces of computer design: the aggregate of designers (constructors, analysts, technologists) and computer means of design are capable of a) designing digital models of intermediate (parts, units, assemblies) and final products, b) analysing and modelling structures, c) carrying out technological preparation of production, d) designing composite materials with the required parameters of consumer functions. Computerization of design leads to an instantaneous exchange of information and replacement of tons of design documentation with a single flash disk and creates the possibility of designing varieties of products with program management (without human participation) of satisfaction of the needs (age-old dream of humanity). The use of composites provides the possibility of designing varieties of items being intellectual property carriers, which meet the required parameters. The principles of the organization of the computer-aided design process (universalization, parallelism, optimization, innovations, and continuity) have been introduced and substantiated. The productive forces of computer-aided design changed the productive forces of the production of the K. Marx's model: universal machines replaced specialised machines; software control of the machine, developed by a technologist, caused the replacement of the worker. The organization of the production process of intermediate and simple products in time has been developed. Universalisation, innovations, optimization of design and production lead to the international division of mental labour and production capital of individual countries and regions into the design of stages and varieties and the production of varieties of intermediate products, carriers of intellectual labour property with the required consumer functions and their parameters. Universalisation, innovations, optimisation of design and production lead to the international per-stage and per-object division of the designer's mental labour and per-object division of the productive capital of individual countries and regions. The result is the design and production of varieties of intermediate products, carriers of intellectual labour property, having the required consumer functions and parameters. International cooperation of design organisations and enterprises of individual countries and regions based on the principles of parallelism and continuity leads to the formation of families of international design and production. The families are able to produce parametric and functional-parametric varieties of types of final products, carriers of intellectual labour property, satisfying functional and parametric requirements. The competition between families determines the development of the world industry. For example, the competition between the families of "The Boeing Company" and "Airbus SE" determines the development of civil aviation in the world. The production costs have been determined. A mechanism has been developed for the development of the productive forces of design and production through the renewal of intellectual property in the design process and the accumulation of capital in the production process.

Practical Application of Integrative Rules and Principles of Urban Design - Hossein Bahrainy - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

Practical Application of Integrative Rules and Principles of Urban Design - Hossein Bahrainy - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

Questions have been increasingly raised by academicians, theorists, and professionals concerning the essence, legitimacy, knowledge base and content and especially methods of inquiry of urban design. These questions were dealt with in an original study for almost four decades, the preliminary results, which were published under the title Toward an Integrative Theory of Urban Design (Bahrainy and Bakhtiar, Springer, 2016). The author''s premise in that work was that because urban design is a complex and multifaceted field, the most useful theories and methods are ones that are integrative (e.g. substantive: urban space and activities; as well as procedural: integrative rules and principles: artistic-intuitive and scientific-rational). The main purpose of this book is to introduce an integrative method of inquiry for urban design through illustrating the practical application of the proposed urban design rules and principles. The authors believe this collection will be a great contribution to the understanding and application of the integrative urban design theory and, particularly, its practical rules and principles. This synthesis of theory and practice is expected to prepare thoughtful practitioners in urban design, and therefore, will be of great interest to the professionals, as well as academicians and also the students of urban design, urban planning, architecture, and the art fields.

Culture of Our Thinking in Relation to Spirituality - Michael Hogan - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

Culture of Our Thinking in Relation to Spirituality - Michael Hogan - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

This book explores the culture of our thinking in relation to spirituality. It focuses largely on psychological science and the problems faced by scientists as they attempt to understand spirituality in action. The book attempts to untangle the concept of spirituality from various cultural attachments and it considers the way different worldviews and different philosophical perspectives can influence the models of spirituality we build. The book moves toward a contextualist view of spirituality, focusing in particular on the act in context, and it moves the reader to consider spirituality as the ultimate testing ground for pragmatic analysis. In this context, spirituality has to become more than a simple abstraction to survive, because to survive the test of pragmatic analysis it must facilitate successful action in context. The fact that spirituality has survived as a working concept for thousands of years suggests that it is resilient in this respect. However, to survive in the modern culture of science it needs to constantly reinvent itself as a working concept. Ultimately, spirituality, in this book, resurfaces from the depths of abstraction as part of an ongoing action state that has real functional significance. Spirituality comes to be identified as a worthy focus of analysis for children and adults alike as part of the science of education itself. Spirituality is not an abstraction to be feared and branded as anti-scientific. But to reverse engineer spiritual consciousness and spiritual action is no easy task either. Insight and out-sight must reach some form of compromise.

An Interdisciplinary Approach towards Academic Education on Sustainable Building Design - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

An Interdisciplinary Approach towards Academic Education on Sustainable Building Design - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

The built environment is witnessing a worldwide concern followed by intensive consideration of its environmental impacts on the one hand and influence on public health and wellbeing on the other. Respecting both priorities mentioned above, the trends in current design tend to be in line with multiple dimensions of sustainability. Next to its occurrence in scientific research and practice, the topic of sustainable design is ever more emerging within the courses at universities, whereby the educational approaches can be beneficial if interrelated to different scientific or expert disciplines. As universities are recognized as complex organizations inevitably evolving over a long period of time period and responding to changes in society and environment, attempts to improve the efficiency of academic teaching have been intensively introduced also in the study programs of the University of Maribor, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Architecture (UM FGPA) through implementation of various activities related to development of innovative approaches towards education on sustainable design of built environment. The publication presents the interdisciplinary approach to the academic education on sustainable building design through integration of different activities. In addition to basic educational courses, the transfer of latest research findings, implementation of practical student workshops, development projects and various activities aiming at integration of different knowledge transfers makes the level of academic teaching more active and efficient. The book consists of six chapters. The first chapter describes the general aspect of the integrative approach to education on sustainable built environment through the experience of the interdisciplinary course. Technical Notes on Next Generation Aero Combustor Design-Development and Related Combustion Research - Jushan Chin - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc

Technical Notes on Next Generation Aero Combustor Design-Development and Related Combustion Research - Jushan Chin - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc

The aim of this book is to identify that extra high-pressure ratio (such as about 70) civil aero engine low emissions combustors and extra high fuel air ratio (FAR) (such as FAR0.051) military aero engine combustors make up the next generation of aero combustors. The aero thermal design of these combustors is very different from previous combustors and the major design points are proposed. Two types of high-pressure low emissions combustor design have been suggested: one is without fuel staging and the other is with fuel staging. The high FAR combustor design is brand new. The layout of the next-generation aero combustor is very different. There are no primary holes, no intermediate holes, and no dilution holes. They all have direct mixing combustion. For low-emissions combustors, it is lean direct mixing (LDM) combustion. For high-FAR combustors, it is stoichiometric direct mixing combustion. Combustion air fraction is very high (such as 75%). That will induce idle condition lean blow out (LBO) issue. The present book has proposed several design approaches to solve idle LBO issue, which are effective. Pilot fuel air combustion is designed at idle condition. For civil combustor, maximum condition is designed for low emissions, while for high FAR combustor, maximum condition is designed for non-visible smoke, low luminous flame radiation and good combustion efficiency. For each type of combustor, the fuel air module configuration is designed, which is the most essential part of combustor design. The brand-new combustor cooling design has used a compound angle tangential inlet cooling hole configuration. Such a cooling design provides high cooling effectiveness. The diffuser configuration is totally new. It is an air bleeding diffuser, directly stretching forward to contact the dome. The bled air flows to the annular channel as cooling air. Aero combustor development is discussed in this book. In particular, the combustor developments from technology readiness level (TRL) 3 to TRL level 6 have been discussed in detail. Also reported is the technology to run combustor development tests correctly. Three topics of related combustion research by the present author are summarised in the brochure. They are: a. Fuel injection and co-flowing air combination. The key point is, for next generation combustor development, the designer should not only think about atomization. The combination of fuel injection and co-flowing air should be considered together as a whole device. b. Fuel spray evaporation calculation, the key is an engineering calculation of multi-component fuel evaporation shall be used. c. Non-luminous flame radiation calculation, which has been significantly updated. The present book is a summary of the author's ten years of study on next-generation aero combustors after retirement. It represents advanced aero combustor technology level.

Design of Energy-Efficient Buildings - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

Nowadays, the energy crisis is one of the controversial issues around the world. Regarding the fact that the largest energy end use in the world belongs to the construction and residential sector, it seems necessary to analyze the energy flow in the buildings. The most sustainable energy design technique is to conserve energy as much as possible. There are various methods to reduce the use of conventional energy from fossil fuels to meet the energy requirement for the building. Various strategies including photovoltaic-thermal systems and insulation systems with the aim of minimizing building energy in different climate conditions (Cold-weather/Hot weather) were presented and assessed in the first chapter. A comprehensive work was carried out to investigate the effect of adding nanoparticles as concrete additives on both pore structure and thermophysical properties of the concrete at different ages. Besides, the behavioral models using Genetic Algorithm (GA) programming were developed to describe the time-dependent behavioral characteristics of nanoparticle blended concrete samples in various compressive and tensile stress states. Chapter 3 deals with the traditional energy saving techniques to highlight the potential of learning from traditional architecture and adopting their experiences to fulfill modern expectations. In this regard, Iranian classical architecture, particularly at hot arid climate, is taken into account. On the other hand, geothermal energy as one of the most significant alternative sources of thermal and electrical energy have been discussed. To address the growing demand of power generation and its related challenges of the existing electrical power grid, Smart Grid (SG) systems comes as a solution that lays in taking the world forward to reach energy independence and environmentally sustainable economic growth. The final chapter provides various information about the smart grid systems and the efficiency of such systems is analyzed through a detailed case study.

Imagination Dead Imagine - because You Can Trap Birds With Birdlime, But You Cannot Capture Their Song - Yota P. Xanthacou - Bog - Nova Science

This book gives a new insight into the concept of creativity and innovation as it offers a new perspective on these concepts. It connects creativity and innovation with education. It connects creativity with sustainability and the education for sustainable development. It describes the complex and multifaceted concept of creativity and the universe of innovation connected with education, sustainability, design, humor, play, toys, tool toys and artifacts. This book emphasizes that today's educational model generally supports the development of one kind of analytical thinking, and that creativity in schools, in organizations, and in business has been buried by rules and regulations. Furthermore, it points out that creativity skills can be learned not by sitting passively in lectures, but by learning and applying the creative thinking process by experimenting, exploring, questioning assumptions, using imagination and synthesizing information. It is important for education systems to become more flexible, more adaptive, and more innovative. Creativity is not fostered by extrinsic incentives, but by intrinsic interest. This book also dissects gently the multiple aspects of the creative process and its stages, from preparation to incubation, and from illumination to verification. It inspires students, teachers, managers, and policymakers, and promotes and ignites in them the flame of innovation and creativity.
