Applying an Advanced Information Search and Retrieval Model in Organisations: Research and Opportunities - Maria Del Carmen Cruz Gil - Bog - Nova

In our lives, we need information continuously to carry out tasks of any kind (personal, academic, and professional). Depending on the context in which we find ourselves and the time available to carry out the task, emotions such as uncertainty and stress can present in the search process. But the important thing is that when we know the search process, the uncertainty and stress are minimized. In this context, the author investigates existing studies on the search and retrieval of information from the user's perspective. The study turned out to be very complex for two reasons: 1. Scientific literature is widely dispersed in different articles and academic books, even if it was the same search and information retrieval model. 2. Sources are not accessible to all people. As a consequence, the author plans to disseminate the results of this research with the aim of facilitating knowledge and understanding of anyone interested in entering the information search and retrieval process. With the collaboration of Nova Science Publishers, we find ourselves before an affordable, simple, and manageable book. Chapters 1 to 7 outline the search and information retrieval models of the following authors: Belkin, Ingwersen, Ellis, Kuhlthau, Wilson, Dervin, and Byström. In Chapter 8, the author presents her own model for searching and retrieving information. This model is formed by some elements previously seen from the other authors, but also by other novel ones such as the organisation. This is due to the fact that some of the tasks carried out with greater frequency and complexity are those that intervene in our professional tasks, in which scientific studies confirm that an effective organisation cannot be conceived without efficient information management.

Leptons - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

In Leptons: Classes, Properties and Interactions, the authors develop a model to calculate the masses of charged leptons by quantifying the electrostatic field generated by these particles. This model is extended to weak and strong interactions in order to calculate the masses of all elementary fermions.Next, by taking the SU(2) group of weak interactions in the presence of Electric Charge Swap-symmetry as a starting point, this compilation show that ordinary and non-regular leptons are related by the ECS-rotational SO(3) group. By considering the ECS-Hamiltonian quaternions for leptons, the authors find that the SU(5) Grand Unified Theory originates from the image of normalized quaternions group N(Q8) under the ECS-rotations.The differential cross-section corresponding to a dispersion process in the context of the 331RHν model is calculated in order to use the results in terrestrial and astrophysical experiments. The differential cross-section is written in terms of the mass of the new gauge boson Z′, the mixing angle, the magnetic moment of the neutrino, and the charge radius. In closing, the authors obtain analytical expressions for the total cross section of the process e+e− τ+τ−γ in the context of the B-L model. The total cross section is analyzed in terms of themass of the new gauge boson Z′, the mixing angle θ′ of the B-L model, the magneticmoment and the electric dipole moment of the τ -lepton.

Libya - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

The United Nations Security Council passed three resolutions that placed sanctions on Libya until Libya surrendered for trial two men suspected of bombing Pan Am flight 103 in 1988 and French flight UTA 772 in 1989. Libya surrendered the two men on April 5, 1999, and the UN suspended the sanctions the same day. US sanctions against Libya remain in place. Libyan-US relations have been plagued by a series of incidents between US and Libyan armed forces, Libyan policies of supporting terrorism, Libya''s search for chemical and nuclear weapons, and Libyan meddling in other nations'' internal affairs. Al-Quadhafi has proposed bilateral and multilateral unions with his neighbours and several other countries, and envisions himself as carrying on for Egypt''s Nasir in unifying the Arab, Islamic and African worlds. Libyan leader Muammar al-Quadhafi implemented a form of participatory democracy in Libya, where villages elect Peoples'' Congresses, which in turn elect Peoples'' Congresses for geographic regions and the central government. In addition, there are Peoples'' Congresses representing industries or institutions, such as education, medicine or broadcasting. Despite the presence and apparent activity of the Peoples'' Congresses, it is clear that members of the Revolutionary Command Council, created after the 1969 coup, and their cohorts continue to exercise great influence, perhaps dictatorial authority over Libya. Libya enjoys a favourable balance of trade and payments and runs a small budget deficit. Al-Quadhafi has used his military in a 1977 border dispute with Egypt; in 1972 and 1978 he attempts to buttress Idi Amin in Uganda, in several attempts to influence events in Chad, and aid in a token deployment in Lebanon.

Rattus norvegicus A Review and Directions for Research - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

This book presents, in two parts, a review concerning the use of Rattus norvegicus as a model for the study of neurological disorders and oncological diseases (mammary cancer). In the first part, the neurological disorders are addressed in important neurological diseases, such as: Autism, Parkinsons, Huntingtons and Alzheimers disease, and two neuromotor dysfunctions (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and ataxia). The second part reveals the importance of the rat as a model for the study of mammary cancer, presenting the diversity of rat strains and models available for the study of this oncological disease. This part is mainly focused on the chemically-induced models of mammary cancer and on the importance of the rat for the development of new prophylactic and therapeutic strategies to fight this disease. For many years and up to the present, rat models have allowed the study of innumerable diseases, as well as their etiology, pathogenesis, evolution and treatment. Due to this, the role of this species for the evolution of medicine is undoubtable.Since the information presented in this book was obtained from years of works of expertise in the field, we hope that it be useful for those researchers aiming to use Rattus norvegicus as a model to study human diseases, providing them with valuable information for the adequate selection and management of this species in their experiments.

Walking Science's Narrow Path - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

Zavia Janjić may mostly be remembered for his pioneering contributions that allowed for the advancement of weather forecasting, which we witnessed over the last 40 years. In the scientific community, he is valued for his remarkable knowledge and intellect that formed the basis of his legacy of innovation, rigour and achievement in atmospheric science. His accomplishments were honored with numerous prestigious awards, and his ingenuity, brightness, kindness and humour kindled respect and dedication in his many colleagues and students. Upon Zavia Janjićs passing, collaborators and students endeavored to describe his person and his work by assembling the details of his journey on the narrow path to true success in science -- a path that is reserved for a select few. As a young student, Zavia started work on his first limited area numerical weather prediction model, which became operational at the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute of the former Yugoslavia in 1978. Janjić was able to solve several difficult scientific questions during the model design and development phase, which helped lay the foundation for his models. Starting in the mid-to-late eighties, Professor Janjić worked on parameterisations of numerous physical processes. This work developed over the longest portion of his career, lasting over 20 years. It included the development of Eta, Weather Research and Forecasting Nonhydrostatic Mesoscale Model (WRF-NMM) and Non-hydrostatic Meso-scale Model on B grid (NMMB), which were National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) weather prediction models. Readers of this book will also enjoy a reprint of an interview with Professor Janjić; a professional biography with Professor Janjićs specific contributions and references to scientific papers; commemorative letters from several directors of major meteorological centers describing how they saw Professor Janjićs work in atmospheric science; and photos and documents from Janjićs life and work. Interlacing his life story with a working biography, writers and editors of this book hope to inspire the coming generation of scientists, as well as provide a timely tribute to Professor Janjićs contribution to atmospheric science.

The Monadic Space of Suburban Canada - Karim Youssef - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

The Monadic Space of Suburban Canada - Karim Youssef - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

Urban planners today are biased towards a model of neighbourhood planning that may be leading them down the wrong path in the design and approval of neighbourhood developments. Many urban planners working today tend to promote a grid pattern of streets for neighbourhoods under the mantra of connectivity, resilience, and sustainability while altogether forsaking the cul-de-sac pattern as an anomaly within the past five decades when compared to the rationality of the grid as a planning tool. The general purpose of this book is to contribute towards restoring the balance between these two opposed models of development: the enclave model of the cul-de-sac and the encounter model of the grid. This book suggests viewing neighbourhoods along a continuum of gated-ness rather than a polar opposition between open encounter models and enclosed enclave models. Differences in degree of gated-ness of neighbourhoods would cater to different personalities and types of residents. Adhering strictly to one model of design while eliminating consideration of the other is a form of symbolic violence because, as research demonstrates, people choose which neighbourhood to live in based on two widely different perspectives - the interactive perspective and the affective perspective - which rarely, though occasionally, overlap. To make a case for the social sustainability of suburban neighbourhoods, this book compares single access neighbourhoods with multiple access neighbourhoods in two Western Canadian metropolitan areas. The primary focus of the study was to discover the sense of cohesion residents feel within their neighbourhoods. The work employs a variety of subjective data and objective indicators to show how these neighbourhoods exhibit different degrees of gated-ness and use different modes of private governance. The book explores how these features are manifest in different intensities of social cohesion and place attachment. The work challenges planners and developers to consider the design and morphology of communities, and the way people variably experience this through the notion of a monadic space, can be an important driver of neighbourhood social cohesion.

Numerical Modeling, Prediction of Ship Maneuvering and Hydrodynamics during Inland Waterway Transport - Peng Du - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc -

Numerical Modeling, Prediction of Ship Maneuvering and Hydrodynamics during Inland Waterway Transport - Peng Du - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc -

In this work, ship hydrodynamics during inland waterway transport and ship manoeuvring are investigated using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) based on OpenFoam. Validation and verification studies are carried out for the mesh convergence, time step convergence, sensitivity to turbulence models and dynamic mesh techniques. A quaternion-based 6DoF motion solver is implemented for the trim and sinkage predictions. Environmental effects on several inland vessels (convoy 1, convoy 2, tanker) are studied using the validated numerical models. Three important aspects, the confinement effect of the waterway, head-on encounter, and ship-bridge pile interaction are simulated. The testing conditions cover a wide range, including various channel dimensions, water depths, ship draughts and speeds. The ship resistance, wave pattern, Kelvin angle and wave elevation at specific positions are investigated as functions of these parameters. Ship manoeuvring is investigated using virtual captive model tests based on the MMG (Mathematical Maneuvering Group) model. An actuator disk is implemented to replace the real propeller. Open water test, rudder force test, OTT (Oblique Towing Tank test) and CMT (Circular Motion Test) of a KVLCC2 model are carried out to obtain the hydrodynamic coefficients of the propeller, rudder and ship hull. Using the obtained coefficients, system-based manoeuvring simulations are carried out and validated using the free running test data. These studies reproduce real ship tests and thus prove the validity of our numerical models. As a result, the numerical solver is promising in ship hydrodynamics and marine engineering simulations.

Creating Empowerment in Communities - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

This is a book that will address the ways in which the theory andd of empowerment can be established and sustained in a variety of community settings and for a variety of target groups, and that may operate at different levels, from individual to societal. In this book, the authors aim to explore and illustrate how inclusive communities can be created and sustained through the development and implementation of empowerment strategies at various levels: Individual, peer, community and societal. The authors utilize the framework of the Dynamic Synergy Model, outlined in Chapter Two, as the context in which we can understand and then actualize the ideals of inclusive communities. In the first two chapters of this volume, the authors outline the concept of inclusive communities, beginning with the initial notion of inclusion, and how that concept has been applied in a variety of settings. They then discuss the topic of empowerment, its theoretical foundations and evolution, including a critique of the concept and the inherent power dynamics of community-based work. In Chapter Two, the authors outline the various levels of empowerment, introduce the Dynamic Synergy Model and delineate a variety of components for establishing and sustaining empowering activities at a variety of levels, in various settings, with evidence or goals for any of the elements outlined for establishing and sustaining empowerment goals with a variety of methods. The authors especially encourage contributions that can illustrate the implementation and/or evaluation of work that exemplifies the Dynamic Synergy Model.

An Introduction to Fuzzy Sets - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

An Introduction to Fuzzy Sets - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

An Introduction to Fuzzy Sets provides a comparison of the quality of life in urban, intermediate and rural NUTS III regions in Portugal, with the main goal of identifying and analysing the necessary and conditions for a high quality of life in those different regions. The authors assess the necessary and sufficient conditions for higher Human Development Index levels, aiming to determine whether the same pattern could be used to explain the happiness index. In order to represent the applications of fuzzy set theory as well as neuro-fuzzy in industry, a literature review of these topics is carried out. As some researchers have efficiently utilized fuzzy logic and neuro-fuzzy, in-depth discussions are provided for stimulating future investigations. Following this, using the L. Zadeh theory of fuzzy sets, the authors consider all types of uncertainties in oil fields and oil production to make a decision as to what model is best in such a fuzzy environment. Additionally, several challenges are explored, such as: the fuzzy random finite difference numerical method, possibilistic uncertainty modelling, and the development of a fuzzy Wilks' theorem to model the hybrid structure of randomness and fuzziness modelling. In closing, a standard fuzzy arithmetic method is used for solving fuzzy equations, as well as for the optimization of fuzzy objectives. The fuzzy variable of the equation is fuzzified using a fuzzy set.
