Exact and approximate string matching problem is a common and often repeated task in information retrieval and bioinformatics. As current free textual databases are growing almost exponentially with the time, the string matching problem is becoming more expensive in terms computational times. The authors believe that recent advances in parallel and distributed processing techniques are currently mature enough and can provide powerful computing means convenient for overcoming this string matching problem. In this book the authors present a short survey for well known sequential exact and approximate string searching algorithms. Further, the authors propose four text searching implementations onto general purpose parallel computer like a cluster of heterogeneous workstations using MPI message passing library. The first three parallel implementations are based on the static and dynamic master-worker methods. Further, the authors propose a hybrid parallel implementation that combines the advantages of static and dynamic parallel methods in order to reduce the load imbalance and communication overhead. Moreover, the authors present linear processor array architectures for flexible exact and approximate string matching. These architectures are based on parallel realisation of dynamic programming and non-deterministic finite automaton algorithms. The algorithms consist of two phases, i.e. pre-processing and searching. Then, starting from the data dependence graphs of the searching phase, parallel algorithms are derived, which can be realised directly onto special purpose processor array architectures for approximate string matching. Further, the pre-processing phase is also accommodated onto the same processor array designs. In addition, the proposed architectures support flexible patterns i.e. patterns with a "don''t care" symbol, patterns with a complement symbol and patterns with a class symbol. Finally, this book proposes a generic design of a programmable array processor architecture for a wide variety of approximate string matching algorithms to gain high performance at low cost. Further, the authors describe the architecture of the array and the architecture of the cell in more detail in order to efficiently implement for both the pre-processing and searching phases of most string matching algorithms.

Disciplines of the City - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

Disciplines of the City - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

During the past two decades, cities have become nerve centers for the production of value. Connected in real time by means of a vast infrastructure network, their productive dynamic has surpassed the organizational and management capabilities of territorially limited States, which are dependent on the international financial flow of capital moving across them. Given that cities are truly the biopolitical factories of the 21st century, the job functions of an urban planner are now identified with those of a highly placed manager in charge of a companys R+D+i, and the mode of governance applied to these is different from that used during previous, historic stages. From different viewpoints (Philosophy, Law, Architecture, and Engineering), this book offers an analysis of the main changes which have taken place in the way cities function. Among other issues, it looks at the management styles applied by public administrations to public spaces (David Thunder; Jorge León, Enrique Cano, and José María Castejón), and the new manner in which social (Julia Urabayen) and legal public (Adriana Ruiz and Alejandro Gómez) and private (Felipe Schwember) segregation is generated. It also looks at the new sociopolitical uses that city inhabitants have given to common spaces beyond the dichotomy of private and public space (Jonas Holst; Carlos Cámara). In other words, the chapters included in this book are not an historical approach to the city, but a theoretical reflection on the disciplines that define our post-metropolitan cities. The aim of the book is to understand how cities and the disciplines that are used to make them work function nowadays: governance, politics, and technology. The cities of the 21st century are no longer places where people can live freely (as Weber stated in The City), but spaces divided in at least two different areas: those who have access to ICT and those who do not have that technology, those who live in healthy and safe boroughs, and those who live in poor und unhealthy areas. This book ponders those problems and tries to show how the disciplinarians of the city deal with them.

International Perspectives on Social Theory - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

International Perspectives on Social Theory - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

This book opens with an identification of the characteristics that define contemporary social movements, including: a blurring and overlapping of taxonomical categories, an evolution towards a post-post-political stage, a great variety and hybridisation of organisational structures, an extension of activism to new social and cultural dimensions as the postmodern worldview and agendas become hegemonic, a trend to become global through the reticulated architecture of the space of flows and a capacity for action enhanced by the use of new communication technologies. Following this, the authors examine the interrelationship between data privacy, data governance, and ethics management in light of recent data privacy legislation, particularly focusing on how online activities that compromise personal data have led to the creation of new regulations that are designed to protect individual privacy rights. The current tendency in sociology to favour the naturalising of discriminations is highlighted, beginning with the example of the axiological discrimination between experts and the groups they themselves stratify. This process prioritises the "normal" and moralism. The final study applied the "exit, voice, loyalty and neglect" framework to investigate how the perceived impact of poor housing management, self-efficacy belief and sense of community influence residents' responses to poor housing management in Hong Kong.

Practical Application of Integrative Rules and Principles of Urban Design - Hossein Bahrainy - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

Practical Application of Integrative Rules and Principles of Urban Design - Hossein Bahrainy - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

Questions have been increasingly raised by academicians, theorists, and professionals concerning the essence, legitimacy, knowledge base and content and especially methods of inquiry of urban design. These questions were dealt with in an original study for almost four decades, the preliminary results, which were published under the title Toward an Integrative Theory of Urban Design (Bahrainy and Bakhtiar, Springer, 2016). The author''s premise in that work was that because urban design is a complex and multifaceted field, the most useful theories and methods are ones that are integrative (e.g. substantive: urban space and activities; as well as procedural: integrative rules and principles: artistic-intuitive and scientific-rational). The main purpose of this book is to introduce an integrative method of inquiry for urban design through illustrating the practical application of the proposed urban design rules and principles. The authors believe this collection will be a great contribution to the understanding and application of the integrative urban design theory and, particularly, its practical rules and principles. This synthesis of theory and practice is expected to prepare thoughtful practitioners in urban design, and therefore, will be of great interest to the professionals, as well as academicians and also the students of urban design, urban planning, architecture, and the art fields.

Design of Energy-Efficient Buildings - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

Design of Energy-Efficient Buildings - - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

Nowadays, the energy crisis is one of the controversial issues around the world. Regarding the fact that the largest energy end use in the world belongs to the construction and residential sector, it seems necessary to analyze the energy flow in the buildings. The most sustainable energy design technique is to conserve energy as much as possible. There are various methods to reduce the use of conventional energy from fossil fuels to meet the energy requirement for the building. Various strategies including photovoltaic-thermal systems and insulation systems with the aim of minimizing building energy in different climate conditions (Cold-weather/Hot weather) were presented and assessed in the first chapter. A comprehensive work was carried out to investigate the effect of adding nanoparticles as concrete additives on both pore structure and thermophysical properties of the concrete at different ages. Besides, the behavioral models using Genetic Algorithm (GA) programming were developed to describe the time-dependent behavioral characteristics of nanoparticle blended concrete samples in various compressive and tensile stress states. Chapter 3 deals with the traditional energy saving techniques to highlight the potential of learning from traditional architecture and adopting their experiences to fulfill modern expectations. In this regard, Iranian classical architecture, particularly at hot arid climate, is taken into account. On the other hand, geothermal energy as one of the most significant alternative sources of thermal and electrical energy have been discussed. To address the growing demand of power generation and its related challenges of the existing electrical power grid, Smart Grid (SG) systems comes as a solution that lays in taking the world forward to reach energy independence and environmentally sustainable economic growth. The final chapter provides various information about the smart grid systems and the efficiency of such systems is analyzed through a detailed case study.
