The Birth of Football's Modern 4-3 Defense - T. J. Troup - Bog - Rowman & Littlefield - Plusbog.dk

The Birth of Football's Modern 4-3 Defense - T. J. Troup - Bog - Rowman & Littlefield - Plusbog.dk

From 1953 to 1959, professional football’s offensive and defensive tactics were in a transitional phase. As teams developed innovative strategies to attack the 5-2-4 defense, passing efficiency improved. In an attempt to counter this newfound passing success, the 4-3-4 defense evolved. This crucial shift in strategies is often overlooked in histories of the NFL, yet its impact on the game is still seen today. The Birth of Football’s Modern 4-3 Defense: The Seven Seasons That Changed the NFL chronicles this key development in professional football. In this comprehensive review and analysis, T. J. Troup provides a year-by-year breakdown of these seven seasons. Each team has a separate entry for every season that includes: ·The coaching staff·Player personnel·An analysis of the stats·Summation of the team’s season·Outlook for the following seasonAs Troup compiled this detailed volume, he had unprecedented access to coaches and players from this era, as well as extensive game footage. Drawing upon these resources, Troup scrutinized each team’s success or failure and re-created the key game of the season for each team—bringing the action, intensity, and importance of the game to life. Including an exclusive interview with Joe Schmidt of the Detroit Lions, this book will entertain and inform all fans and historians of professional football, especially those interested in the early development of the modern defense.

World War 4 - Douglas Alan Cohn - Bog - Rowman & Littlefield - Plusbog.dk

World War 4 - Douglas Alan Cohn - Bog - Rowman & Littlefield - Plusbog.dk

Thirty-five years ago, Sir John Hackett published The Third World War, which speculated how WW3 might start and how it would be fought. Since it is now fashionable to call WW3 the Cold War, the time is right to publish a book about WW4, how it might start and most likely be fought.War planners must envision the unexpected and plan for the improbable, and the 20th century’s theories of total war are going to be rendered obsolete by the 21st century’s nuclear-enforced concept of limited war. In the future, with mutual acceptance of national survival in place, Mutually Assured Survival (MAS) wars will be waged between nuclear powers without introducing nuclear weapons. This is the possible future in nine scenarios:·The Post-NATO War: It will begin between allies, not enemies, in seemingly unconnected events.·The Great Russian War: Russia will seek to reverse its loss of empire through its version of Manifest Destiny.·The Great China War: By embracing capitalism in an authoritarian command-control economy, China supplanted communism with a form of expansionist fascism.·The Chinese Civil War: Chinese fascism will become a victim of rising expectations and diminishing realities.·The Polar War: Another resource rush is on, and as 500 years ago, a treaty allocating sovereignty was made to be broken.·The Blue Gold War: Diminishing fresh water will spawn conflicts of desperation.·The Lunar War: The Moon will come to be coveted as the only permanent low-gravity satellite.·The Nuclear Terrorist War: As the Taliban, al Qaeda, and ISIS terrorists inch closer in connection and proximity to sympathetic extremists in Pakistan, that nation’s nuclear arsenal is increasingly likely to fall into their hands.·The Commerce, Currency, and Cyber War: With globalization, government-sanctioned predatory trade practices, cyber-based industrial espionage, currency manipulation, and other financially provocative actions will lead to war.Human folly is the great imponderable. Yet, does folly upset the calm or is the storm the natural state in the sea of humanity? Either way, folly or nature ensures a future filled with conflict.

101 Ways to Help Preschoolers Excel in Reading, Writing, and Speaking - Catherine Depino - Bog - Rowman & Littlefield - Plusbog.dk

This book gives preschoolers valuable practice in reading, writing, and speaking skills by engaging them in a series of enjoyable activities. Preschool teachers, nursery and day care workers, kindergarten teachers, parents (especially home schooling parents), and ESL teachers, will find the activities both easy to follow and user-friendly. Teachers can use many of the activities with groups in a classroom setting, while parents can use them with individual children in a home setting. All of the activities address values important to children''s growth and development: cooperation, friendship, respect for others'' opinions, intergenerational closeness, generosity, and gratitude. The activities are divided into two main sections: early preschoolers (ages 2-4) and preschoolers (ages 4-6). Within each of these categories, activities progress from basic to intermediate to advanced. The teacher or parent can modify or expand upon all of the activities, adjusting them to a child''s individual needs. The activities begin with a description of what the teacher will accomplish during the activity. The target skills section tells the teacher at a glance which skills the activity reinforces. The game plan gives a step-by-step list of things to do from the activity''s beginning to end. Finally, sample scripts help the instructor talk to children about the activities appearing throughout the book.
