Ask for More - Alexandra Carter - Bog - Simon & Schuster Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Negotiation is a key skill for your job, your closest relationships, and even your everyday life, but often people shy away from it, feeling like they’re marching into battle or that they’re settling for less. Enter Alexandra Carter, Clinical Professor of Law and Director of the Mediation Program at Columbia University, NYC, who has taught students, business professionals and even the United Nations for more than a decade on this very topic. In Ask for More: Ten Questions to Improve Your Negotiations, Your Relationships and Your Life , Carter brings her breadth of knowledge to help anyone, regardless of their situation, ask for - and get - more. Rather than adhering to the popular narrative that only the loudest and most assertive among us get what they want, Carter invites readers to rethink negotiation entirely. Through asking open-ended questions rather than panicked ones, you’ll be better able to steer a conversation, a negotiation, and ultimately a relationship for long-term success. She teaches a simple, yet powerful, ten-question framework for successful negotiation. The first five questions are the ones you first need to ask yourself (called 'mirror' questions) and the last five are the ones you ask who you’re negotiating with (called 'window' questions). The responses to such questions as "what’s brought me here?", "how do I feel?" and "what do I need?" will pave the way for a productive conversation based on values and needs. Carter’s method helps readers go far beyond one “yes” or handshake to create value that lasts a lifetime. Accessible, powerful, and inspiring, Ask for More gives readers the tools to bring clarity and perspective to any important discussion.

Everything You Need to Know About the Pill (but were too afraid to ask) - Kate Muir - Bog - Simon & Schuster Ltd - Plusbog.dk

'I cannot recommend this book enough. Kate Muir's writing demystifies, educates and empowers all women to have agency over their own bodies. This book will anger, educate and empower' - Jen Brister An eye-opening, no-holds-barred guide to contraception, written by campaigner, journalist and documentary-maker Kate Muir Everything You Need to Know About the Pill (but were too afraid to ask) is the thinking-woman’s guide to contraception, bringing you answers to all those questions that have been hidden behind a veneer of misplaced shame, bad science and centuries of patriarchy. - What's happening to my body - and my mind? - Which method of contraception is best for me? - Do I really need to take a pill break every three weeks? - What about men - where's their pill?! Muir draws on interviews with the leading medical experts in the field, interlaced with her own tumultuous journey with different types of contraception and the personal stories of women from all walks of life, sharing their varied experiences and hard-earned wisdom. Muir also questions why the current medical establishment is getting contraception so wrong, as she debunks the myths and exposes the sloppy science and hysterical headlines that have had a negative impact on women’s health for the last twenty years. This ground-breaking guide is a social, cultural and scientific exploration into a criminally overlooked and under-discussed part of women's lives. It is a manifesto for change, calling for equality in healthcare and an entirely new - and long overdue - approach to women’s health. 'This book finally allows us to think differently about hormones and contraception. Kate is a genius' - Dr Louise Newson ‘Essential reading for any woman who has ever taken the pill, it’s likely to educate, anger and empower’ - Liz Earle Wellbeing Magazine

Everything You Need to Know About the Menopause (but were too afraid to ask) - Kate Muir - Bog - Simon & Schuster Ltd - Plusbog.dk

‘I have huge respect for Kate. A forensic journalist and menopause warrior.’ Davina McCall An eye-opening, no-holds-barred guide to the perimenopause and menopause written by campaigner, journalist and documentary-maker Kate Muir. Everything You Need to Know About the Menopause (and were too afraid to ask) is the thinking woman’s guide to the menopause, bringing you answers to all those questions that have been hidden behind a veneer of misplaced shame, bad science and centuries of patriarchy. · What’s the perimenopause and when will it strike? (It’s sooner than you think) · What’s happening to my body – and my mind? · Why can’t I stop thinking about sex in perimenopause? · How do I get my sex drive back after menopause? · How do I look after my body and brain when my hormones disappear? Muir draws on interviews with the leading medical experts in the field, interlaced with her own tumultuous journey through the menopause and the personal stories of women from all walks of life, sharing their varied experiences and hard-earned wisdom. Muir also questions why the current medical establishment is getting the menopause so wrong, as she debunks the myths that surround hormone replacement therapy and exposes the sloppy science and hysterical headlines that have had a negative impact on women’s health for the last twenty years. It’s essential that we understand the biology of our own bodies during this critical period that will define the latter half of our lives. With the help of a panel of doctors, scientists and health experts, Muir unpacks the science behind hormones and ageing, and takes a close look at the different options available for treating both body and mind during the profound changes that take us into midlife and beyond. What she discovers is that both symptoms and treatment are far more extensive and diverse than we might expect. The menopause is the whole package, and the treatment needs to be too, with impacts as wide ranging as preventing Alzheimer’s, boosting sex drive and protecting mental health. This ground-breaking guide is a social, cultural and scientific exploration into a criminally overlooked and under-discussed phenomenon that will affect one billion of us by 2025. And it is a manifesto for change, calling for equality in healthcare and an entirely new approach to women’s health.

The Book of Gutsy Women - Hillary Rodham Clinton - Bog - Simon & Schuster Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Now an eight-part docuseries on Apple TV+ featuring Kim Kardashian, Amy Schumer, Goldie Hawn, Kate Hudson, Wanda Sykes, Megan Thee Stallion and more She couldn’t have been more than seven or eight years old. “Go ahead, ask your question,” her father urged, nudging her forward. She smiled shyly and said, “You’re my hero. Who’s yours?” Many people – especially girls – have asked us that same question over the years. It’s one of our favourite topics. HILLARY: Growing up, I knew hardly any women who worked outside the home. So I looked to my mother, my teachers, and the pages of Life magazine for inspiration. After learning that Amelia Earhart kept a scrapbook with newspaper articles about successful women in male-dominated jobs, I started a scrapbook of my own. Long after I stopped clipping articles, I continued to seek out stories of women who seemed to be redefining what was possible. CHELSEA: This book is the continuation of a conversation the two of us have been having since I was little. For me, too, my mom was a hero; so were my grandmothers. My early teachers were also women. But I grew up in a world very different from theirs. My pediatrician was a woman, and so was the first mayor of Little Rock who I remember from my childhood. Most of my close friends’ moms worked outside the home as nurses, doctors, teachers, professors, and in business. And women were going into space and breaking records here on Earth. Ensuring the rights and opportunities of women and girls remains a big piece of the unfinished business of the twenty-first century. While there’s a lot of work to do, we know that throughout history and around the globe women have overcome the toughest resistance imaginable to win victories that have made progress possible for all of us. That is the achievement of each of the women in this book. So how did they do it? The answers are as unique as the women themselves. Civil rights activist Dorothy Height, LGBTQ trailblazer Edie Windsor, and swimmer Diana Nyad kept pushing forward, no matter what. Writers like Rachel Carson and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie named something no one had dared talk about before. Historian Mary Beard used wit to open doors that were once closed, and Wangari Maathai, who sparked a movement to plant trees, understood the power of role modeling. Harriet Tubman and Malala Yousafzai looked fear in the face and persevered. Nearly every single one of these women was fiercely optimistic – they had faith that their actions could make a difference. And they were right. To us, they are all gutsy women – leaders with the courage to stand up to the status quo, ask hard questions, and get the job done. So in the moments when the long haul seems awfully long, we hope you will draw strength from these stories. We do. Because if history shows one thing, it’s that the world needs gutsy women.

The Yes Brain Child - Daniel J. Siegel - Bog - Simon & Schuster Ltd - Plusbog.dk

The World Within - Guy Stagg - Bog - Simon & Schuster Ltd - Plusbog.dk

The World Within - Guy Stagg - Bog - Simon & Schuster Ltd - Plusbog.dk

A luminous new book from the critically acclaimed author of The Crossway, winner of the Edward Stanford Travel Memoir of the Year, and shortlisted for the Rathbones Folio Prize, Royal Society of Literature Ondaatje Prize and Somerset Maugham Award 2019. All my life I have dreamed of retreat. Of letting go each responsibility and cutting every tie. And I know I’m not the only one. But, when I learnt about the creative figures who left their lives behind, I began to ask myself: what is gained and what is lost when we withdraw from the world? To answer this question, Guy Stagg tells the story of three of the twentieth century’s most original minds: the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein, the poet and painter David Jones, and the writer Simone Weil. All three went on retreat during times of crisis, to find their work and their lives changed for ever. Seeking to understand these experiences, Stagg follows Wittgenstein to the ancient monastery outside Vienna where he recovered from depression, sails to the isolated island off the Welsh coast where Jones discovered a new way to make art, and spends Lent at the forbidding French Abbey that sparked an epiphany in Weil’s thinking. The World Within blends a moving personal account with history, biography and travel, offering a profound exploration of the impulse to withdraw. It asks why retreat still enchants people to this day and hints at how each one of us can find a sanctuary of our own.

Lucid - Lucy Holden - Bog - Simon & Schuster Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Lucid - Lucy Holden - Bog - Simon & Schuster Ltd - Plusbog.dk

'A proper, heart-breaking, global sex-pirate adventure' - Caitlin Moran ‘An utterly gripping read […] just don’t miss your Tube stop’ Sunday Times 'Searingly honest, knuckle-bleedingly raw and very funny' - Jay Rayner 'I LOVED this book [...] stunning' - Liz Jones 'A s*** version of Fleabag' - Ex-boyfriend 'In Bath I lay in a field with headphones on, drunk, and staring at an empty blue sky that reflected nothing of the chaos in the world. Below the fields flashed the seaweed-green of a London train and I imagined my former life at the end of it but felt more like it had been tied to the tracks and careered over at 100 mph.' After a wild decade of hedonistic city life that veered violently into trauma, Lucy Holden was thrown back down the ladder to her parents’ house in a pandemic which paused the parties and forced her to ask herself how she’d become who she’d become? Grown-up, broken-down, completely lost, then locked-in – Lucy realises she can’t make it up as she goes along forever and instead has to confront the darkness she’s been running from her entire adult life. In this raw, hilarious and often emotional memoir about a young woman asking herself how long she has until her act cracks completely, the mental health of a fast-paced world that never sits still is called into question. With charm and wit, Lucid addresses what it means to be young in today’s society – and where we can go from here.
