Roles of Skeletal Muscle in Organ Development - - Bog - Springer International Publishing AG - Plusbog.dk

Muscle is the only tissue of the four basic types that make the body that can be completely ablated while allowing fetal survival. This book is a result of 25 years of research employing engineered mouse fetuses with no skeletal muscle, a model system that provides a unique opportunity to study body development holistically. A systematic anatomical analysis of such fetuses have shown that several anatomical locations are affected by the absence of the skeletal muscle. This book contains a summarized description of affected anatomical locations such as the alveolar lung epithelium, motor neurons and giant pyramidal cells in the CNS, cholinergic amacrine cells of the retina, and type I hair cells of the crista ampullaris. Several specific bioinformatics and systems biology interventions are also described. The book provides an update on skeletal muscle development, musculoskeletal developmental interactions, trophic relationships between the skeletal muscle and the motor neurons, mechanics of lung development, functional development of two special senses, eye and ear, and finally, skeletal muscle-related reasons for human fetal akinesia and its consequences. This volume in the Advances in Anatomy, Embryology and Cell Biology series stresses the need to think about the developing body and its organs in terms of their mutual interdependence, and to think about diseases, such as pulmonary hypoplasia, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or cleft palate, in terms of that interdependence. Directed to developmental biologists, neuroscientists, tissue engineers and health professionals, this book exposes the ideas of interorgan communication and interdependence in homeostasis and disease.

Neurocognitive Music Therapy - Rafael Ramirez Melendez - Bog - Springer International Publishing AG - Plusbog.dk

Neurocognitive Music Therapy - Rafael Ramirez Melendez - Bog - Springer International Publishing AG - Plusbog.dk

For thousands of years, music has acted as a powerful medium for evoking emotions, facilitating communication, and nurturing overall well-being. With the advent of new sophisticated neuroimaging technology, human responses to music and music therapy are being viewed through a new lens. As a consequence, new knowledge is being obtained about how music can produce significant improvements in cognitive, social, overt and agitated behaviours. The aim of this book is to provide an overview of neurocognitive music therapy, its impact and implications in the practice of evidence-based music interventions. The book seeks to provide researchers, psychologists, music therapists, musicians and physicians interested in the therapeutic applications of music, with a source of information about current techniques and novel music interventions. It is structured into several chapters, each of them presenting peer-reviewed research and evidence-based procedures carried out in a specific clinical context. Topics covered in the book include: Musical engagement for individuals with motor disabilities Enhancing emotional processing in autism through music Stroke rehabilitation via musical interventions Musical neurofeedback for emotional disorders Emotional modulation with music therapy in palliative care AI-driven personalisation in music interventionsThe book highlights the profound capacity of music-based interventions to facilitate cognitive and emotional processing, enhance communication, and promote motor rehabilitation. At the same time, the book demonstrates how modern technologies offer new opportunities to evaluate, validate, and potentiate music-based interventions, allowing new and innovative possibilities and more personalised interventions. This book aims to contribute to the growing body of knowledge in this field and inspire further research and innovation in the practice of music therapy.

Wide Bandgap Power Electronics - - Bog - Springer International Publishing AG - Plusbog.dk

Wide Bandgap Power Electronics - - Bog - Springer International Publishing AG - Plusbog.dk

This book presents the transformational progress in next-generation advanced converter circuit topologies based on the unique electrical properties of wide-bandgap semiconductors, including silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN). It addresses the opportunities for significant advances in power electronics circuit performance opened by the availability of wide-bandgap power devices and the challenges associated with using these devices that must be overcome when applying them. The authors tackle specific grand challenges in application areas covering a broad range of power electronics circuits and systems disciplines, including electric motor-driven systems, automotive applications, air/rail/ship propulsion, electric vehicle chargers, high-performance computing and data centers, power supplies, solar inverters, wind-electric systems, high/medium voltage transmission/distribution equipment and power electronics interacting with the grid, power conversion for grid storage, monolithic power processing, and solid-state circuit breakers. Wide Bandgap Power Electronics: Emerging Converter Technologies and Applications introduces readers to the unique characteristics of wide-bandgap power semiconductor devices and the revolutionary impact that they are capable of having on the performance of power converters in future power electronics applications and will be an invaluable resource for practicing engineers, researchers, and graduate students in the field of power electronics, applications, and systems.

The Praxis of Product Design in Collaboration with Engineering - Wayne C. Chung - Bog - Springer International Publishing AG - Plusbog.dk

The Praxis of Product Design in Collaboration with Engineering - Wayne C. Chung - Bog - Springer International Publishing AG - Plusbog.dk

This book reveals how a generative design process capitalizes on understanding humans in context to deliver appropriate innovation. A repertoire of design actions and output allows designers to work dynamically in order to create a cascade of new ideas and insights. The Design Matrix, a visual team tool, provides a prescriptive and descriptive guide enabling a range of users to work through a problem and also reflect on past decisions. Several case studies from prior industry collaborative projects show the complexities and tensions that can be tackled through the design process and matrix. Case studies include design and engineering development and production of an 8 Tesla MRI, biomedical projects, medical devices, and consumer products. Other cases with Ford Motor Company and Cognizant Technologies illustrate how using a human-centered design process can shift the business paradigm for new products, services, systems, and social innovations. Each story shows different and distinct aspects that span classic design and engineering problem solving to generative contextual processes which lead to innovative solutions. - Describes a studio-based product development pedagogy so readers can understand through past examples how to operationalize their own design, engineering, and innovation processes; - Provides specific stories that showcase details of the project work, the contextual insights, and proposed solutions as a result of applying tangible visualizations, collaborative work methods, and framing and reframing of the problem; - Uses case studies to demonstrate how to use divergent and convergent design thinking and actions from multiple stages of the design process so this can lead to critical team integration and new contextual insights.
