Gamify - Biran Burke - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

Organizations are facing an engagement crisis. Regardless if they are customers, employees, patients, students, citizens, stakeholders, organizations struggle to meaningfully engage their key constituent groups who have a precious and limited resource: their time. Not surprisingly, these stakeholders have developed deflector shields to protect themselves. Only a privileged few organizations are allowed to penetrate the shield, and even less will meaningfully engage. To penetrate the shield, and engage the audience, organizations need an edge. Gamification has emerged as a way to gain that edge and organizations are beginning to see it as a key tool in their digital engagement strategy. While gamification has tremendous potential to break through, most companies will get it wrong. Gartner predicts that by 2014, 80% of current gamified applications will fail to meet business objectives primarily due to poor design. As a trend, gamification is at the peak of the hype cycle; it has been oversold and it is broadly misunderstood. We are heading for the inevitable fall. Too many organizations have been led to believe that gamification is a magic elixir for indoctrinating the masses and manipulating them to do their bidding. These organizations are mistaking people for puppets, and these transparently cynical efforts are doomed to fail. This book goes beyond the hype and focuses on the 20% that are getting it right. We have spoken to hundreds of leaders in organizations around the world about their gamification strategies and we have seen some spectacular successes. The book examines some of these successes and identifies the common characteristics of these initiatives to define the solution space for success. It is a guide written for leaders of gamification initiatives to help them avoid the pitfalls and employ the best practices, to ensure they join the 20% that gets it right. Gamify shows gamification in action: as a powerful approach to engaging and motivating people to achieving their goals, while at the same time achieving organizational objectives. It can be used to motivate people to change behaviors, develop skills, and drive innovation. The sweet spot for gamification objectives is the space where the business objectives and player objectives are aligned. Like two sides of the same coin, player and business goals may outwardly appear different, but they are often the same thing, expressed different ways. The key to gamification success is to engage people on an emotional level and motivating them to achieve their goals.

Feminism, Community, and Communication - Betty Mackune Karrer - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

Feminism, Community, and Communication - Betty Mackune Karrer - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

. . . from the minds of therapists on the cutting edge! This informative, innovative collection brings together the work of a group of “scholar-therapists,” all women, who have met regularly for ten years to discuss family therapy, gender, and postmodern ideas. The major themes--feminism, community, and communication--are taken in new directions. Feminism, Community, and Communication rethinks therapy, research, teaching, and community work with a renewed emphasis on collaboration, intersubjectivity, and the process of communication as a world-making and identity-making activity. The issues of gender, culture, religion, race, and class figure prominently in this book. In Feminism, Community, and Communication you''ll find descriptions of: - - communal perspectives for therapists that stress listening and understanding over interpreting and knowing - - the power of love and spirituality in relation to organizational consultation to an agency beset by racial division - - research on anorexia and what it means - - a mentoring project for rural girls - - the Bar/Bat Mitzva as therapy - - an ethnographic study of Lebanese women - Feminism, Community, and Communication takes an exciting, fresh look at these three intertwined concepts, representing a way of thinking and doing therapy, research, community work, and training that highlights the ethical dimension of each. The book takes the position that human beings are meaning-makers in a common world, and not simply objects to be scrutinized or assessed by “experts.”

Career Counseling for African Americans - - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

Career Counseling for African Americans - - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

This book is the first edited volume devoted exclusively to career counseling with African Americans. African Americans are now at parity with the graduation rates of White Americans, yet disparities in employment continue to abound. At the same time the job market is changing and in need of more highly qualified workers, society must begin to understand the career and employment needs of Black Americans if it is to more effectively utilize this available market resource. Recent data indicates that stronger economies have a competitive edge if they have a more diverse workforce. More effective career counseling must be provided for African Americans so that they can become more thoroughly integrated in the world of work, thus creating stronger economies for society and more satisfying and challenging lives for this segment of the United States. Career Counselors need to be trained to effectively interact with African Americans. This volume begins to shed more light on just how to do that. This book presents nine significant topics focusing on career counseling for African Americans: *basic issues and concepts; *career assessment; *career counseling with African Americans; *career counseling with dual career African American couples; *career transition issues; *affirmative career counseling with African American women; *career counseling in non-traditional career fields; *the impact of the glass ceiling on the career development of African Americans; and *future directions in career counseling theory, research, and practice with African Americans.

Reading and Language Processing - - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

Reading and Language Processing - - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

This volume was designed to identify the current limits of progress in the psychology of reading and language processing in an information processing framework. Leaders in their fields of interest, the chapter authors couple current theoretical analyses with new, formally presented experiments. The research -- cutting-edge and sometimes controversial -- reflects the prevailing analysis that language comprehension results in numerous levels of representation, including surface features, lexical properties, linguistic structures, and idea networks underlying a message as well as the situations to which a message refers. As a group, the chapters highlight the impact that input modality -- auditory or written -- has on comprehension. Finally, the studies also capture the evolution of new topic matter and ongoing debates concerning the competing paradigms, global proposals, and methods that form the foundation of the enterprise. The book presents current accounts of research on word-, sentence-, and text-processing. It will prove informative for experimental psychologists as well as investigators in cognitive science disciplines such as computer science, linguistics, and educational psychology. The book will also be very helpful to graduate students who wish to develop expertise in the psychology of language processes. For them, it collects, in a single volume, readings that are representative of progress concerning many central problems in the field. As such, it is distinct from the numerous collected volumes that concentrate on a single issue. Complete author and subject indexes facilitate effective use of the volume.

Men's Changing Roles in the Family - Robert A Lewis - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

Men's Changing Roles in the Family - Robert A Lewis - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

How are men reacting to, perceiving, and behaving in light of the changes in gender roles. Here is an important volume that provides new and interesting reading about contemporary husbands and fathers. Men’s Changing Roles in the Family, offers an overview of the causes and consequences of changes in men’s family roles in recent decades.Experts introduce you to the issues, problems, and methods on the cutting edge of those disciplines that study men in the context of their families. Until now relatively little has been known empirically about men in contemporary families, and even less has been known about husbands and fathers from direct reports of the men themselves. This groundbreaking volume successfully closes this gap in the literature with an examination of the effects that fathers’growing involvement with their children have on their wives and themselves; a clinical assessment of some men’s angry reactions to separation and divorce and those special therapeutic goals and strategies that may help reduce their distress; examinations of the conflicting demands of the work world and the family upon some contemporary husbands and fathers and the negative effects of nonstandard work schedules upon men’s family life; and an examination of factors that make many men unhappy in patriarchal family structures. Men’s Changing Roles in the Family also contributes toward breaking new ground by examining family roles now performed by special groups of men. Finally, this important volume reports empirical findings about men in family-like relationships, illustrating evidence for the unique roles that male caregivers can offer children in day-care centers and reviewing current empirical studies of men’s friendships and their development.
