Where the Bruised Pieces Go - Jane Fawley - Bog - Troubador Publishing - Plusbog.dk

London is being haunted by a serial killer who is beginning to evolve. Victims are left at iconic city landmarks and in the garden squares of the east end. They are carefully displayed with a pear in one hand and their heart in the other. The streets of London are not paved with gold but covered in blood. Sam Stirling is the psychologist building the criminal profile to help DCI Albert ‘Smiley’ Riley and his team apprehend him. If Sam is to succeed, he will need assistance from psychotherapist Emma Malone. But the killer has developed an unhealthy obsession with Sam and Emma catches his eye… After another victim is discovered with one more disturbing clue, the case finally starts to make sense. But as Sam closes in, the killer reverses the roles. Who is the profiler now? This is a book about the damage damaged people can cause, both to those they choose as their victims, and those whose task it is to bring them to justice. It is a novel of layers and nuances as well as being a rollercoaster ride. Sam’s and Emma’s stories hurtle along parallel tracks, and the reader knows that at some stage these tracks will meet in an explosive way. And so they do, but there’s also a twist in the tale that will take your breath away. In ‘Where the Bruised Pieces Go’, Jane Fawley has set a benchmark for psychological crime dramas second to none. Mr Hammond and the Poetic Apprentice - Mellany Ambrose - Bog - Troubador Publishing - Plusbog.dk

Summer, 1814. Thomas Hammond is an apothecary surgeon in a village near London whose dreams of a grand medical career were ruined by a shameful secret. He longs to see his apprentice, his son Edward, become a great surgeon. His other apprentice is eighteen-year-old local orphan, John Keats. Thomas sees John as a daydreamer who wastes time reading. John asks Thomas how he copes with his patients’ suffering, but Thomas has no real answer. After all, Georgian medicine is brutal with no anaesthesia, antisepsis or antibiotics. Leeches are used to bleed and medicines can poison rather than cure. Thomas failed to save John’s mother four years earlier, and when John criticises Thomas’s methods tempers flare on both sides. Despite their differences, Thomas and John begin to develop a grudging respect for each other with Thomas seeing a humanity in the way John relates to patients. Their relationship deepens into one more resembling father and son while Thomas''s true son, Edward, disappoints his father. Thomas realises John is gifted and would make a skilled surgeon, but to help John succeed Thomas must confront his own past mistakes. On the verge of qualifying as a surgeon, John unexpectedly abandons medicine for poetry. Thomas is devastated and struggles to find meaning in his life and work. As he faces one final challenge, can the master learn some valuable lessons about life from his poetic apprentice before it’s too late?

Adventures with Raymond and Bonnie - John Williams - Bog - Troubador Publishing - Plusbog.dk

Adventures with Raymond and Bonnie - John Williams - Bog - Troubador Publishing - Plusbog.dk

Living in rural Billsborough County, a young robin called Raymond and his best friend Bonnie, a blue tit, get into all sorts of adventures. Raymond is plucky, brave and (surprisingly for a robin), well-read. What Bonnie lacks in knowledge she makes up for with common sense. Always right, she tends to be nosy and sometimes lacks concentration. In ‘The Deserted Cottage’, we see the young pals waking with the firm intention of spending another day having fun. It’s mid-winter and they often visit nearby Fir Cottage where they can expect food and fresh water provided by nice old Mr Digweed. One snowy December day, Raymond and Bonnie meet up early and fly the short distance over to the cottage only to find it deserted and with no sign of food or water. Initially, they are just concerned about Mr Digweed’s health but, later that day, they discover that the forlorn-looking cottage has attracted the interest of two suspicious-looking strangers. Who are these intruders and what, exactly, do they want? How can two little birds help Mr Digweed and protect Fir Cottage? Where will they find help? Unfortunately, there is also a threat to the birds'' habitat! It looks as though they might have to move away from the countryside that they love so much. Far from being fun, this turned out to be a very challenging day that the little feathered friends will never forget. Ideal for ages 7-9, this charming tale illustrated by Simon Goodway will have all young readers flocking around to hear what Raymond and Bonnie get up to next!
