Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in the Thermal Spray Industry - Hitesh Vasudev - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

This book details the emerging area of the induction of expert systems in thermal spray technology, replacing traditional parametric optimization methods like numerical modeling and simulation. It promotes, enlightens, and hastens the digital transformation of the surface engineering industry by discussing the contribution of expert systems like Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) toward achieving durable Thermal Spray (TS) coatings. Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in the Thermal Spray Industry: Practices, Implementation, and Challenges highlights how AI and ML techniques are used in the TS industry . It sheds light on AI’s versatility, revealing its applicability in solving problems related to conventional simulation and numeric modeling techniques. This book combines automated technologies with expert machines to show several advantages, including decreased error and greater accuracy in judgment, and prediction, enhanced efficiency, reduced time consumption, and lower costs. Specific barriers preventing AI’s successful implementation in the TS industry are also discussed. This book also looks at how training and validating more models with microstructural features of deposited coating will be the center point to grooming this technology in the future. Lastly, this book thoroughly analyzes the digital technologies available for modeling and achieving high-performance coatings, including giving AI-related models like Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) more attention. This reference book is directed toward professors, students, practitioners, and researchers of higher education institutions working in the fields that deal with the application of AI and ML technology.

Palma Africana - Michael Taussig - Bog - The University of Chicago Press - Plusbog.dk

“It is the contemporary elixir from which all manner of being emerges, the metamorphic sublime, an alchemist’s dream.” So begins Palma Africana, the latest attempt by anthropologist Michael Taussig to make sense of the contemporary moment. But to what elixir does he refer? Palm oil. Saturating everything from potato chips to nail polish, palm oil has made its way into half of the packaged goods in our supermarkets. By 2020, world production will be double what it was in 2000. In Colombia, palm oil plantations are covering over one-time cornucopias of animal, bird, and plant life. Over time, they threaten indigenous livelihoods and give rise to abusive labor conditions and major human rights violations. The list of entwined horrors—climatic, biological, social—is long. But Taussig takes no comfort in our usual labels: “habitat loss,” “human rights abuses,” “climate change.” The shock of these words has passed; nowadays it is all a blur. Hence, Taussig’s keen attention to words and writing throughout this work. He takes cues from precursors’ ruminations: Roland Barthes’s suggestion that trees form an alphabet in which the palm tree is the loveliest; William Burroughs’s retort to critics that for him words are alive like animals and don’t like to be kept in pages—cut them and the words are let free. Steeped in a lifetime of philosophical and ethnographic exploration, Palma Africana undercuts the banality of the destruction taking place all around us and offers a penetrating vision of the global condition. Richly illustrated and written with experimental verve, this book is Taussig’s Tristes Tropiques for the twenty-first century.

A comprehensive textbook on petrochemical conversion processes for petroleum and natural gas fractions as produced by refinery operations This innovative textbook provides essential links between the chemical sciences and chemical technology, between petrochemistry and hydrocarbon technology. The book brings alive key concepts forming the basis of chemical technology and presents a solid background for innovative process development. In all chapters, the processes described are accompanied by simplified flow schemes, encouraging students to think in terms of conceptual process designs. Petrochemistry: Petrochemical Processing, Hydrocarbon Technology and Green Engineering introduces students to a variety of topics related to the petrochemical industry, hydrocarbon processing, fossil fuel resources, as well as fuels and chemicals conversion. The first chapter covers the fundamentals and principals for designing several of the processes in the book, including discussions on thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, reactor calculations, and industrial catalysts. The following chapters address recent advances in hydrocarbon technology, energy technology, and sources of hydrocarbons. The book then goes on to discuss the petrochemical industry based on four basic pillars, all derived from petroleum and natural gas: Production of lower alkenes; other sources of lower alkenes; petrochemicals from C2-C3 alkenesProduction of BTX aromatics; chemicals from BTX aromaticsC1 technologyDiversification of petrochemicals The growing importance of sustainable technology, process intensification and addressing greenhouse gas emissions is reflected throughout the book. Written for advanced students working in the areas of petrochemistry, hydrocarbon technology, natural gas, energy materials and technologies, alternative fuels, and recycling technologies the book is also a valuable reference for industrial practitioners in the oil and gas industry.

Scented Visions - Christina (courses And Events Programmer Bradstreet - Bog - Pennsylvania State University Press - Plusbog.dk

Smell loomed large in cultural discourse in the late nineteenth century, thanks to the midcentury fear of miasma, the drive for sanitation reform, and the rise in artificial perfumery. Meanwhile, the science of olfaction remained largely mysterious, prompting an impulse to “see smell” and inspiring some artists to picture scent in order to better know and control it. This book recovers the substantive role of the olfactory in Pre-Raphaelite art and Aestheticism. Christina Bradstreet examines the iconography and symbolism of scent in nineteenth-century art and visual culture. Fragrant imagery in the work of John Everett Millais, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Simeon Solomon, George Frederic Watts, Edward Burne-Jones, and others set the trend for the preoccupation with scent that informed swaths of British, European, and American art and design. Bradstreet’s rich analyses of paintings, perfume posters, and other works of visual culture demonstrate how artworks mirrored the “period nose” and intersected with the most clamorous debates of the day, including evolution, civilization, race, urban morality, mental health, faith, and the “woman question.”Beautifully illustrated and grounded in current practices in sensory history, Scented Visions presents both fresh readings of major works of art and a deeper understanding of the cultural history of nineteenth-century scent.

Postharvest Technologies for Commercial Floriculture - Anil Kumar Verma Dhiman - Bog - New India Publishing Agency - Plusbog.dk

Postharvest Technologies for Commercial Floriculture - Anil Kumar Verma Dhiman - Bog - New India Publishing Agency - Plusbog.dk

Commercial floriculture, which comprises the production and trade of cut flowers, foliage plants, potted plants, landscape plants, bedding plants, seed production, dried flowers and plant parts, perfumes, and essential oils, as well as natural dyes, has emerged as an essential part of the agricultural sector and has been recognized as a potential area for diversification into a sustainable agribusiness option. Among the various aspects of floriculture, the essential oil, dried flower, and cut flower industries have been identified as powerful engines of economic growth. This book, therefore, aims to provide comprehensive information on the relevance of post-harvest technology in the commercial aspects of floriculture. It contains information on quality control and standardization in the perfume and essential oils industry, including techniques employed for analyzing essential oils and information on their chemical constituents and sensory evaluation. Additionally, the book provides details on the processing techniques and quality attributes of essential oils, as well as descriptions of ornamental and aromatic plants that serve as sources of fragrances. The book also includes discussions on the processing and preservation techniques for flowers and the various ways in which their parts can be used for value addition. Lastly, the book provides information on the quality factors affecting floricultural crops, including pre-harvest, harvest, and post-harvest factors, with a focus on cut flowers.
