Daniel Clowes - - Bog - University Press of Mississippi - Plusbog.dk

Daniel Clowes (b. 1961) emerged from the "alternative comics" boom of the 1980s as one of the most significant cartoonists and most distinctive voices in the development of the graphic novel. His serialized Eightball comics, collected in such books as David Boring, Ice Haven, and Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron, helped to set the standards of sophistication and complexity for the medium. The screenplay for Ghost World, which Clowes co-adapted (with Terry Zwigoff) from his graphic novel of the same name, was nominated for an Academy Award.Since his early, edgy Lloyd Llewellyn and Eightball comics, Clowes has developed along with the medium, from a satirical and sometimes vituperative surrealist to an unmatched observer of psychological and social subtleties. In this collection of interviews reaching from 1988 to 2009, the cartoonist discusses his earliest experiences reading superhero comics, his time at the Pratt Institute, his groundbreaking comics career, and his screenplays for Ghost World and Art School Confidential. Several of these pieces are drawn from rare small-press or self-published zines, including Clowes''s first published interview. He talks at length about the creative process, from the earliest traces of a story, to his technical approaches to layout, drawing, inking, lettering, and coloring. These interviews reveal a thoughtful artist, deeply interested in the history of comics and the potential of the medium. An assistant professor of English at East Carolina University, Ken Parille is the author of Boys at Home: Discipline, Masculinity, and ''The Boy-Problem'' in Nineteenth-Century American Literature. A lecturer in English at the University of Vermont, Isaac Cates has published in Indy Magazine, International Journal of Comic Art, ImageText, and many other periodicals.

Chester Brown - Frederik Byrn Køhlert - Bog - University Press of Mississippi - Plusbog.dk

Chester Brown - Frederik Byrn Køhlert - Bog - University Press of Mississippi - Plusbog.dk

Best known for his alternative comics, Chester Brown (b. 1960) is one of the most acclaimed and influential cartoonists of the last half century. This first biography provides a critical account of Brown's life and career, highlighting his role in the evolving comics landscape and tracing his journey from self-publishing minicomics on the streets of Toronto to creating award-winning graphic novels. Characterized by often minimalist art and unconventional themes, comics such as Yummy Fur, Ed the Happy Clown, I Never Liked You, Louis Riel, and Paying for It have consistently pushed boundaries and confronted taboos. Chester Brown offers unique insight into Brown's creative process as well the scope of his work and its larger cultural contexts. Organized chronologically, the book provides a full account of the artist's career, beginning with his failed attempts to break into superhero comics and ending with discussions of his most recent work, in which he blends autobiography with political views on sex work and religion. The book also examines Brown's extensive authorial revisions and considers how he has deployed both these and an increasingly voluminous amount of paratextual material in the service of creating a highly distinctive authorial persona that in turn cannot help but influence how we encounter and read his work. Chester Brown pulls back the curtain on this pioneering artist and emphasizes the inseparability of Brown's art and life, including the myriad ways they have informed each other across the last four decades of comics history.

Fixing the Euro Within the National Constitutional Guardrails - Frederik Behre - Bog - Kluwer Law International - Plusbog.dk

Fixing the Euro Within the National Constitutional Guardrails - Frederik Behre - Bog - Kluwer Law International - Plusbog.dk

EU fiscal integration is indispensable to establishing a stable single currency in the long run. However, this integration is proving ever more difficult in light of increasing national constitutional opposition. The author of this groundbreaking book shows that this dilemma between EU fiscal integration and national constitutional limits can be refuted. He provides a structured, comparative overview and outlook on how the available national constitutional space can be adapted to the political aspirations aiming at implementing EU fiscal integration steps while at the same time effectively protecting the national constitutional values at stake. Beginning with a macro-comparative assessment of Finland and Germany - two countries which have comprehensively dealt with Eurocrisis-issues in largely contrasting constitutional ways - and continuing with a comparative assessment of the specific French, German, Polish, and Spanish constitutional (identity) limits, EU fiscal integration steps are tested against the charted national constitutional space to determine their attainability. The resulting overview identifies best practices that can be employed to locate constitutional space for EU fiscal integration while enhancing the protection of core constitutional principles. The analysis addresses such specific areas as the following: - constitutional red-line limits vs. flexible or mutable constitutional approaches to EU fiscal integration; - strict constitutional identity limits that formulate obstacles to the attainment of EU fiscal integration; - how national constitutional authorities perceive and portray the EU in their respective approaches; - integration measures as an increase in the impact of sovereign powers vs. loss of autonomous decision-making; - application of national constitutional frameworks during the Eurocrisis; - ex ante constitutional review and ex post judicial scrutiny in representative Member States; - national budgetary responsibility and fiscal autonomy; - emergency budgetary instruments; and - funding options for fiscal integration. The analysis throughout highlights the important role EU integration plays in stabilizing core national constitutional values in light of such complex challenges as the COVID-19 pandemic, the current Russian war of aggression against Ukraine and the required common defence strategies, but also climate change and digitalization. In its innovative response to the urgent challenge of feasible EMU reforms to stabilize the euro, this book displays how national constitutional systems can address EU (fiscal) integration in a more flexible and yet more effective manner, how EU integration steps can engage with national constitutional concerns in a more structured manner, as well as specifically hownational parliaments can be integrated and play a decisive role even when budgetary and fiscal powers are conferred at the EU level, thereby identifying a future model for EU cooperation in politically important competence areas. It thus offers a constructive outlook on achievable fiscal integration steps which will prove of inestimable value to lawyers, judges, and policymakers at the national and EU levels.

Danske Kongegrave I-III - - Bog - Museum Tusculanums Forlag - Plusbog.dk

Danske Kongegrave I-III - - Bog - Museum Tusculanums Forlag - Plusbog.dk

Her finder man bl.a. Alle skriver inden for deres ekspertområde.
