Microeconomics, GE - Michael Parkin - Bog - Pearson Education Limited - Plusbog.dk

For 1-semester principles of microeconomics courses. An intuitive and grounded approach to economics Microeconomics gets students to think like economists by incorporating the latest policy, data and discussions on important global issues. The 14th Edition emphasizes real-world applications, the development of critical-thinking skills, diagrams renowned for their pedagogy and clarity, and path-breaking technology. Hallmark features in the chapter openings and endings encourage students to think critically about a news article relating to the issue, demonstrating how thinking like an economist can bring a clearer perspective to, and deeper understanding of, today''s events. Hallmark features of this title Concepts connect to economics in the real world - - Economics in Action and Economics in the News boxes have students link models and chapter tools to the economic world around them. - - Interviews with Economists feature leading economists from diverse backgrounds who share what inspired them to pursue a career in economics. - Ample opportunities for practice - - Worked Problems , consisting of questions, solutions and key figures, help students to learn-by-doing and actively, rather than passively, review the chapter content. - - In-text Review Quizzes reinforce major concepts and test students'' knowledge of the topics just discussed. - New and updated features of this title Coverage of the impact of a changing microeconomic market - - NEW: Chapter 1, "Getting Started", has a new section on a diversity challenge: the under-representation of women and minorities in economics. - - NEW: 6 chapters examine COVID-19, including its effects on the production possibilities frontier (Ch. 2) and on the hand sanitizer market (Ch. 3), the elasticity of supply of face masks (Ch. 4), movie streaming in the pandemic (Ch. 8), the competitive market in fitness equipment and services (Ch. 12), and the increased inequality arising from Covid''s labor market effects (Ch. 19). - - NEW: Other notable discussions and examples include a push for a $15 minimum wage (Ch. 6); an updated discussion of the work of the World Trade Organization and its new Director General, Ngozi OkonjoIweala and the US-China trade war (Ch. 7); an analysis of the effects of a tax on sugary drinks (Ch. 9); a look at Amazon''s distribution center decisions (Ch. 11), product differentiation in streaming services (Ch. 14); an analysis of carbon pricing to lower emissions (Ch. 17); and more. -

Chemical Thermodynamics for Process Simulation - Jurgen (universitat Oldenburg Oldenburg Ge) Rarey - Bog - Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH - Plusbog.dk

The only textbook that applies thermodynamics to real-world process engineering problems This must-read for advanced students and professionals alike is the first book to demonstrate how chemical thermodynamics work in the real world by applying them to actual engineering examples. It also discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the particular models and procedures, and explains the most important models that are applied in process industry. All the topics are illustrated with examples that are closely related to practical process simulation problems. At the end of each chapter, additional calculation examples are given to enable readers to extend their comprehension. Chemical Thermodynamics for Process Simulation instructs on the behavior of fluids for pure fluids, describing the main types of equations of state and their abilities. It discusses the various quantities of interest in process simulation, their correlation, and prediction in detail. Chapters look at the important terms for the description of the thermodynamics of mixtures; the most important models and routes for phase equilibrium calculation; models which are applicable to a wide variety of non-electrolyte systems; membrane processes; polymer thermodynamics; enthalpy of reaction; chemical equilibria, and more. -Explains thermodynamic fundamentals used in process simulation with solved examples -Includes new chapters about modern measurement techniques, retrograde condensation, and simultaneous description of chemical equilibrium -Comprises numerous solved examples, which simplify the understanding of the often complex calculation procedures, and discusses advantages and disadvantages of models and procedures -Includes estimation methods for thermophysical properties and phase equilibria thermodynamics of alternative separation processes -Supplemented with MathCAD-sheets and DDBST programs for readers to reproduce the examples Chemical Thermodynamics for Process Simulation is an ideal resource for those working in the fields of process development, process synthesis, or process optimization, and an excellent book for students in the engineering sciences.

Hydraulic fracture geometry characterization based on distributed fiber optic strain measurements - Ge Jin - Bog - Elsevier - Health Sciences Division

Hydraulic fracture geometry characterization based on distributed fiber optic strain measurements - Ge Jin - Bog - Elsevier - Health Sciences Division

Distributed fiber optic strain measurements, revolutionizing subsurface monitoring and hydraulic fracture characterization, offers a resource for geophysicists, reservoir engineers, and completion engineers. This cutting-edge technology leads the way in innovation with its ability to detect rock deformation and changes in strain along optical fibers, providing exceptional spatial resolution and measurement sensitivity. Its applications are broad and impactful, ranging from monitoring subsurface carbon storage and enhancing geothermal systems to advancing unconventional reservoir development. Despite the technology''s advancements, accurately interpreting data of strain measurement from the hydraulic fracturing process poses a significant challenge due to the complex conditions in the subsurface. This book presents a comprehensive approach for analyzing strain responses from both horizontal and vertical monitoring wells to quantify hydraulic fracture propagation and the evolution of fracture geometry. The development of a forward geomechanics model significantly enhance the understanding of the field data. The introduction of a groundbreaking inversion model allows for in-depth data analysis and maximizes the dataset''s value. Moreover, this book applies its findings through two field studies in unconventional reservoirs, illustrating the practical application of the technology. These case studies highlight effective field data interpretation and the critical insights that can be obtained. This book aims to elucidate data interpretation and analysis of complex subsurface measurements related to hydraulic fracture propagation, providing engineers with a novel perspective on subsurface exploration.

Silicon-Based Photonics - - Bog - Pan Stanford Publishing Pte Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Silicon photonics has evolved rapidly as a research topic with enormous application potential. The high refractive index contrast of silicon-on-insulator (SOI) shows great promise for submicron waveguide structures suited for integration on the chip scale in the near-infrared region. Ge- and GeSn-Si heterostructures with different elastic strain levels already provide expansion of the spectral range, high-speed operation, efficient modulation and switching of optical signals, and enhanced light emission and lasing. This book focuses on the integration of heterostructure devices with silicon photonics. The authors have attempted to merge a concise treatment of classical silicon photonics with a description of principles, prospects, challenges, and technical solution paths of adding silicon-based heterostructures. The book discusses the basics of heterostructure-based silicon photonics, system layouts, and key device components, keeping in mind the application background. Special focus is placed on SOI-based waveguide configurations and Ge- and GeSn-Si heterostructure devices for light detection, modulation, and light emission and lasing. The book also provides an overview of the technological and materials science challenges connected with integration on silicon. The first half of the book is mainly for readers who are interested in the topic because of its increasing importance in different fields, while the latter half covers different device structures for light emission, detection, modulation, extension of the wavelength beyond 1.6 μm, and lasing, as well as future challenges.
