South Africa''s Kruger National Park is one of the largest and most iconic conservation areas in Africa. Habitats range from wide-open savannah and rugged thornveld to broadleaved mopani woodland. This microhabitat variation gives Kruger a phenomenal diversity of some 520 bird species, half of which are resident. From Africa''s most extraordinary eagles, like the scarlet-faced Bateleur, to electric-colored glossy-starlings and jewel-like finches, Kruger offers an avian celebration of form and color. It is also a crucial conservation area, supporting South Africa''s largest viable populations of vultures, eagles, and large terrestrial birds. This field guide offers a unique window into the world of Kruger''s birds. More than 500 stunning color photographs illustrate the 259 most frequently encountered species, and a habitat-based approach assists in identification. Dunning-Kruger-effekten - Andrés Stoopendaal - Bog - Turbine - Plusbog.dk

Covenant - Danny Kruger - Bog - Swift Press - Plusbog.dk

Covenant - Danny Kruger - Bog - Swift Press - Plusbog.dk

''It is uplifting to see a frontline politician setting out a vision of such scope and ideological coherence ... persuasively argued and elegant to read'' Sunday Times A 2023 Book of the Year in Sunday Times and Daily Telegraph Contemporary conservatism can easily be seen as a hollowed-out creed. Combining heartless free-market individualism with an unthinking social liberalism – or else simple authoritarian populism - it offers little to those whose sense of meaning is securely rooted in their families, communities and country. Covenant , Danny Kruger, one of parliament’s leading thinkers, argues that we must restore the sources of virtue and belonging that underpin the good life. Our urgent task is to repair the covenantal relationships of love and partnership that our families, local communities and ultimately our country depend on. We must, he contends, go beyond a politics based purely on individual autonomy, social atomisation and self-worship. By examining the most fundamental questions of love, sex, life and death, ranging from marriage to assisted dying, Kruger charts a course towards a conservatism that can respond humanely and wisely to the social, environmental and economic crises that face us. This riposte to both liberal orthodoxy and the authoritarian right is unmissable for anyone interested in British politics. It’s a key contribution to the debate on how the Conservative Party can respond to its current crisis.

The Wilderness Family - Kobie Kruger - Bog - Transworld Publishers Ltd - Plusbog.dk

When Kobie Krüger, her game-ranger husband and their three young daughters moved to one of the most isolated corners of the world - a remote ranger station in the Mahlangeni region of South Africa''s vast Kruger National Park - she might have worried that she would become engulfed with loneliness and boredom. Yet, for Kobie and her family, the seventeen years spent in this spectacularly beautiful park proved to be the most magical - and occasionally the most hair-raising - of their lives.Kobie recounts their enchanting adventures and extraordinary experiences in this vast reserve - a place where, bathed in golden sunlight, hippos basked in the glittering waters of the Letaba River, storks and herons perched along the shoreline, and fruit bats hung in the sausage trees. But as the Krugers settled in, they discovered that not all was peace and harmony. They soon became accustomed to living with the unexpected: the sneaky hyenas who stole blankets and cooking pots, the sinister-looking pythons that slithered into the house, and the usually placid elephants who grew foul-tempered in the violent heat of the summer. And one terrible day, a lion attacked Kobus in the bush and nearly killed him.Yet nothing prepared the Krugers for their greatest adventure of all, the raising of an orphaned prince, a lion cub who, when they found him, was only a few days old and on the verge of death. Reared on a cocktail of love and bottles of fat-enriched milk, Leo soon became an affectionate, rambunctious and adored member of the fmaily. It is the rearing of this young king, and the hilarious endeavours to teach him to become a ''real'' lion who could survive with his own kind in the wild, that lie at the heart of this endearing memoir. It is a memoir of a magical place and time that can never be recaptured.

A Century of South African Theatre - Professor Loren (university Of Chicago Kruger - Bog - Bloomsbury Publishing PLC - Plusbog.dk

A Century of South African Theatre - Professor Loren (university Of Chicago Kruger - Bog - Bloomsbury Publishing PLC - Plusbog.dk

“Theatre is not part of our vocabulary”: Sipho Sepamla’s provocation in 1981, the year of famous anti-apartheid play Woza Albert!, prompts the response, yes indeed, it is . A Century of South African Theatre demonstrates the impact of theatre and other performances—pageants, concerts, sketches, workshops, and performance art—over the last hundred years. Its coverage includes African responses to pro-British pageants celebrating white Union in 1910, such as the Emancipation Centenary of the abolition of British colonial slavery in 1934 organized by Griffiths Motsieloa and HIE Dhlomo, through anti-apartheid testimonial theatre by Athol Fugard, Maishe Maponya, Gcina Mhlophe, and many others, right up to the present dramatization of state capture, inequality and state violence in today’s unevenly democratic society, where government has promised much but delivered little. Building on Loren Kruger’s personal observations of forty years as well as her published research, A Century of South African Theatre provides theoretical coordinates from institution to public sphere to syncretism in performance in order to highlight South Africa’s changing engagement with the world from the days of Empire, through the apartheid era to the multi-lateral and multi-lingual networks of the 21st century. The final chapters use the Constitution’s injunction to improve wellbeing as a prompt to examine the dramaturgy of new problems, especially AIDS and domestic violence, as well as the better known performances in and around the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Kruger critically evaluates internationally known theatre makers, including the signature collaborations between animator/designer William Kentridge, and Handspring Puppet Company, and highlights the local and transnational impact of major post-apartheid companies such as Magnet Theatre.

The Detectorist's Guide to Planet Earth - Adam Gamage - Bog - Amberley Publishing - Plusbog.dk

The Detectorist's Guide to Planet Earth - Adam Gamage - Bog - Amberley Publishing - Plusbog.dk

Let''s get down to the facts: each entry in this astonishing list begins with a number of bullet points, detailing the name of the treasure trove, the rough date it was supposedly last accounted for, its last recorded location, its contents and an estimation of value. So we find that on 20 November 1511 the Portuguese ship the ''Flor de la Mar'' disappeared in the Straits of Malacca. On board? Well amongst other trinkets, about 55 thousand kilos of gold bullion. Estimated worth of the whole cargo today? Over £2 billion. Does the treasure lie in the murky waters of the Straits - or was it stolen by Afonso de Albuquerque, the man who added Malacca to the Portuguese Empire? The Kruger Bullion is a treasure that was allegedly hidden at the request of the South African President Paul Kruger (1883-1902) to ensure it didn’t fall into British hands during the Second Boer War (1899-1902). In 1947, Mr H. Lessing found a portion of the treasure near the Eswatini border, equidistant from Pretoria and Maputo, Mozambique, after following a map within a Bible given him by his father. The hoard was described as ''broken ammunition boxes filled with Kruger sovereigns, other coins and rotting Kruger bank notes''. But that doesn''t account for much of the £250 million that went missing. It''s not just gold of course. There are Faberge eggs out there, and Michelangelo''s marble mask of the head of a faun...

Formative Media - Steffen Kruger - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Formative Media - Steffen Kruger - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Formative Media presents a psychoanalytic and psychosocial inquiry into the significance of the most widely used digital platforms – including Facebook, Google, YouTube, Twitter (X), and Instagram – and the relational styles that users cultivate and habituate in their interplay with these platforms. Steffen Krüger assesses the formative effects of these platforms, considering who we are and how we are becoming who we are in relation to, as well as mediated through, digital platforms. The book considers Facebook in conversation with the Freudian theory of Eros and the Live/Love drive, then homes in on the primitive forms of orality, attachment, dependence, and symbiosis in relation to YouTube. Krüger then expands the discussion of orality with an inquiry into the notions of mastery, control, and domination that Google unfolds and activates in its search function, considers narcissism in the context of Instagram, and examines hate speech and aggression on Twitter. The book focuses on the most salient, most talked about aspects, features, and activities of commercial, corporate social media culture to inquire into the formational pushes and pulls of these activities in their contexts for our subjectivities and sense of self. Showing in detail how digital media platforms have advanced into central “socialisation agencies,” Formative Media will be of great interest to academics and scholars of psychoanalytic, psychocultural, and psychosocial theory, critical digital media studies, and interactional theory.
