Ultimate Equilibrium of RC Structures Using Mini-Max Principle - Yuri Ribakov - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

Ultimate Equilibrium of RC Structures Using Mini-Max Principle - Yuri Ribakov - Bog - Nova Science Publishers Inc - Plusbog.dk

This monograph analyses experimental and theoretical investigations in the field of reinforced concrete structures and elements from the viewpoint of a new mini-max principle and application of this principle for calculation of forces, strengths and critical buckling loads in RC shells, columns, plates, etc. The basis of the mini-max principle was developed during solving a problem of finding an RC shell load bearing capacity via a kinematic method. Forming the internal forces'' fields at the plastic stage of the structure leads to a problem, related to interaction between the normal forces and bending moments, but at this stage the compressed shell section has an unknown eccentricity. Therefore an additional equation should be found for separating the above-mentioned forces. The following idea was proposed: the section compressed zone depth (static parameter) should be selected so that the maximum load bearing capacity of the structure is realized simultaneously with minimizing the external load the failure zone dimension (kinematic parameter). Development of this idea resulted in formulating the mini-max principle. The essence of this principle is that real load bearing capacity of the structure is calculated (without under- and over-estimation). With this aim it is proposed to use in the same calculation both extreme features of failure load. At the same time just one method is used (static or kinematic). Thus, the mini-max principle became a way for realizing the unity theorem of the limit equilibrium method, which joints the static and kinematic approaches. The mini-max principle enabled to solve some problems in load bearing capacity of structures that had no solutions or were solved approximately. Additionally, the principle was used for solving some new problems in calculation of RC shells.

New Forms of Procurement - - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

The last three decades have seen the evolution of Public–Private Partnerships (PPPs) and Relationship Contracting (RC) as alternative procurement approaches to traditional methods of delivering public infrastructure. The potential for growth in these new forms of procurement has led to an on-going debate on the nature of requirements, particularly in terms of policy development, encouraging private investment and value for money. A key argument for Governments to procure projects using PPPs and RC is that the process delivers better value for all the stakeholders, including the community and asset end-users. This wide-ranging study of such crucial procurement issues includes international historical context, collaboration and risk management, with a focus on sustainable procurement approaches. The international significance of PPPs and RC procurement is reinforced with case study examples from the UK, Europe, North America, South Africa and the Asia-Pacific. It features cutting-edge research from around the world on subjects such as: - - Reviews and reflection of the PPP approach - Project Alliancing - Implementation of RC in developing countries - Changes in procurement policy - Value for money, collaboration and stakeholder involvement - Growth and emergence of PPPs in Asia - Risk management - Including contributions from some of the world''s most prominent academics and practitioners in this field, it is a crucial guide to the strategic choices governments now face for the provision of infrastructure, between using ‘public’ or ‘private’ mechanisms, or a combination of the two.

Pursued Economy - Rc Koo - Bog - John Wiley & Sons Inc - Plusbog.dk

In Pursued Economy: Understanding and Overcoming the Challenging New Realities for Advanced Economies, celebrated economist and thought leader Richard C. Koo dives deep into the failure of traditional economic solutions to address the economic and social problems of post-Great Recession and post-pandemic economies. Starting with the original concepts of balance sheet recessions and global competition for capital, the author explains why the Great Recession lasted for so long and why well-intentioned policies that worked so well in the past are no longer working today. Readers will discover that advanced economies moved from what the author calls the "golden era" to the "pursued era" of economic development long ago, but the policy debate in these countries continues to be informed by golden era assumptions that are no longer relevant but are still taught in universities. That mismatch has led to an over-reliance on monetary policy and an under-reliance on fiscal policy that are distorting economies and worsening inequality in a profoundly transformed world. With many real-world examples from the author's extensive involvement in the policy debate on economic, banking and trade issues in several countries, including the U.S., the book describes the correct policy mix in the pursued era as distinct from that in the golden era. It also explains the challenges central banks face in fighting inflation after a decade of over-reliance on monetary policy that flooded the world’s economies with unprecedented liquidity. Instead of simply assuming the existence of "trend growth rates", this book tackles the issue of economic growth head-on so as to elucidate the symmetry between the drivers of growth and the drivers of recession. It also argues that the fundamental disconnect between free trade and free capital movements must be addressed in order to maximize the gains from globalization while minimizing its costs. Written in simple language and with a great sense of urgency, Pursued Economy should be of interest to anyone who is concerned about the global economy, financial stability and geopolitics.

Concrete Structures Subjected to Impact and Blast Loadings and Their Combinations - Chunwei Zhang - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Concrete Structures Subjected to Impact and Blast Loadings and Their Combinations - Chunwei Zhang - Bog - Taylor & Francis Ltd - Plusbog.dk

Although much research focuses on investigating the responses of reinforced concrete (RC) structures under sole impact or blast loads, the responses of RC structures under a combination of impact and blast loads currently represent a gap in our knowledge. The combined actions of impact and blast loadings may be applied to RC structures during accidental or intentional collision of vessels, vehicles, etc., carrying explosive materials. A comprehensive study on the vulnerability of various structural members is carried out using finite element (FE) simulations under combination of impact and blast loads with the variations of various loading- and structural-related parameters and key parameters. This book introduces various structural analysis approaches for concrete structures when subjected to extreme loads such as impact and blast loadings. The theory of the combinations of impact and blast loads is proposed that can provide primary insights to the specific readers to develop new ideas in impact and blast engineering, including combined actions of extreme loads arising from real-world intentional or accidental events. This book will be of value to students (undergraduate or postgraduate), engineers, and researchers in structural and civil engineering, and specifically, those who are studying and investigating the performances of concrete structures under extreme loads.
