For 5S Red Tagging to take place and be successful, a holding area must be set up. Without one, the SORT process is broken. Unwanted items will not make it out of the area to be evaluated and then dispositioned. Not having a dedicated holding area is the most common reason for 5S SORT to fail.

Hand in hand with the red tag holding area is the 'red tag logbook'. We have taken the traditional logbook and transposed it into a live tool for logging items and helping support the next step of red tag sorting (Disposition) An historical log of red tagged items can be captured with the simple use of a camera phone.
Quick and Easy Deployment -
These large dry wipe action boards can be easily mounted on a wall or even quicker, mounted on a mobile display (available separately or as part of a kit) to allow very speedy deployment to your holding area. Once an item has been identified as not needed in the area (red tagged) , the details of the items is added to the action board.
Seamless Process -
Your team then evaluates the red tagged items and decides what to do with them. The evaluation categories are mirrored on our famous 5S Red Tag, allowing a seamless process to progress you through 5S SORTING.

Each department or production area that participates in red-tagging also needs a local red tag holding area. The local red tag holding area is used to manage the flow of red-tagged items within a local department or production area.
Without any local holding area, the decision is usually to leave it where it is and the Sort activity is prevented from achieving its objective.
