Cornus Florida Rubra (Flowering Dogwood) - Shrub

Cornus Florida Rubra (Flowering Dogwood) - Shrub

Cornus Florida Rubra forms a broadly conical tree with ovate, slightly twisted, leaves that show good autumn colour. The plant itself originates from North America, particularly around the Eastern part of the country. The plant has an interesting history in that around 1915, forty dogwood saplings were donated by U.S. to Japan in the 1912-15 exchange of flowers between Tokyo and Washington, D.C. The cherry trees survived despite war between the two countries later on. Eventually all the trees except one died and in 2012 America donated more of these trees once again to Japan on the anniversary of 1912. Discrete green flowers, surrounded by four showy bracts in a reddish-pink and white, appear in early summer followed by red fruits. The plant itself is hardy for the British climate at H5 and only needs sheltering in extreme cold weather. The plant itself is generally pest free but can get horse chestnut scale so keep an eye out for this. There are potential diseases to take into consideration as well. Follow the guidelines of pruning group 1 for maintaining. Bougainvillea Glabra Sanderiana - Quarter Standard

Bougainvillea Glabra Sanderiana - Quarter Standard

This flowering plant is loved for its abundant floral display in vivid colours. The actual flowers are tiny and white, but each cluster of three flowers is surrounded by thin papery bracts in bright colours. There exist around 300 varieties of bougainvillea which come in various colours burgundy, pink, purple, red, orange, white, or yellow. It is a long lived plant which flowers seasonally and is deciduous in temperate climates though evergreen in the tropics. Although it is essentially a thorny, woody vine, it can be grown in any size and shape outdoors; covering a sunny wall, trained as a tree, bush or even a pyramid.
