The Bug Butcher by the Austrian team Awfully Nice Studios is a two-dimensional shooter, modeled on the game Super Pang (in the USA known as Super Buster Bros.) from 1990. The studio was founded by Till Aschwanden and Rainer Zoettl. The latter previously worked at the famous Blizzard Entertainment and at Weta Digital and Scanline VFX, where he contributed to several famous films, including District 9, The Hobbit, Avengers and Cloud Atlas.
Story
In The Bug Butcher we play the role of a man named Harry, who is a cosmic exterminator of all kinds of vermin. He is commissioned to get rid of pests at a research facility on a distant planet and to save scientists working there. Of course, the task will not be easy, as Harry has to face overgrown and very dangerous creatures.
Gameplay
The Bug Butcher for PC, PS4 etc. is a side-scrolled shoot'em up, which is mainly about sending countless enemies to the grave. Players move in two dimensions, right and left, but only shoot upwards. During the game, we get access to various futuristic weapons, including lasers and rocket launchers, which we can also modify. In addition, the creators took care of power-ups, temporarily increasing the firepower. On each of the approximately 30 prepared levels, we earn points, awarded, of course, for defeating enemies. The more efficiently and faster we do it, the better we get results, all thanks to the multiplier that resets after we receive a hit or we have been idle for too long.
