The ArmA III takes place in the near future. After years of intense warfare in the Middle East, Europe is becoming the last bastion for NATO's weakened military forces. The Pact Command sees an opportunity to turn things around in a desperate mission far behind the enemy lines. A small island in the Mediterranean Sea hides a military secret that may be crucial to the fate of the ongoing conflict. Special unit soldiers and researchers are sent to the site. The operation code-named "Magnitude" begins. Czech developers have not forgotten about fans of multiplayer battles. Dedicated servers (separately for Windows and Linux) allow you to play both in competition and cooperation mode.
The creators of the game set themselves the task to give players as much freedom as possible. This is reflected, for example, in the rich options for the individualization of uniforms or weapons. Compared to the previous installments of the ArmA III series, it also offers a wider range of available weapons and vehicles. Players can drive various types of planes, helicopters, wheeled vehicles and even ships. The developers improved the user interface, making it much easier to use. At the same time, this has not been achieved by simplifying the gameplay mechanics. All options and functions are still available. Now it's just easier to use them. For the first time in the history of the series, there are also underwater missions.
The visual side of ArmA III is the responsibility of the fourth generation of the Bohemia graphics engine. with PhysX technology. This allowed to significantly improve the simulation nature of the game, while providing better quality animations. Moreover, the new technology made it possible to introduce large-scale maps. The areas available to players exceed 320 square kilometers. The surroundings in the game were reproduced on the basis of the authentic appearance of one of the islands in the Mediterranean Sea with great attention to geographical details. The developers also took care of modding tools. Based on an intuitively easy-to-use editor, players can create their own missions and scenarios.
