Roguebook is a card roguelike set in the Faeria universe, in which, controlling the fate of two heroes, we travel through a randomly generated world, where our goal is to gain the knowledge contained in the title book.
Story
Roguebook is a book, but not as ordinary as it may seem. Not only does it have a will and is guided by its own aspirations, apparently anyone who can read it fully will become omniscient and will be able to enjoy almost the same respect as the gods. And as you probably guessed, reading this peculiar book is not easy. Each time we undertake a task, the book generates a unique world for us: on each of its pages we will find various and dangerous tasks to overcome, whether in the form of dangerous monsters or events oscillating around ancient (and not only) legends set in the Faeria universe .
Gameplay
The adventure begins with choosing two heroes, differing in class, race and special skills, and requiring different tactics. The heroes available in the game include Sharra, the dragon slayer specializing in hand-to-hand combat, the universal Sorocco, buffing and affecting time Aurora, as well as Seifer - Blood Tyrant with devilish powers, thanks to which he can turn into a demon. After selecting the heroes, we start our journey through the world randomly generated by the book, where we move on a map consisting of hexes. We decide where and in what order we go, but sometimes the area is covered with the fog of war covering the map, so exploring is necessary.
During our journey, we meet NPCs, shopkeepers, jewelers and priests, but we also encounter special events. Some of them are meetings where we have the opportunity to choose one of several options, and some of them are skirmishes. However, there are also so-called a chain of events, so if we draw the same event several times, the game, remembering the results of previous meetings, will prepare something unique for us. The Roguebook, however, mainly covers battles with various creatures seen from the sidelines. The positioning of our heroes (one in front and the other in the back), as well as the deck of cards we have built, have a big impact on their positive completion. All because the position of the heroes changes dynamically and if we play a card with an attack of a specific hero, he moves to the front (if he was standing at the back) or stays in place.
As for the cards themselves, they include defense and attack cards, but also buffs, debuffs and other special abilities. In addition, we can improve our cards with special gems, provided that they have a slot for them. We get gems while traveling and we can find among them both typical and very rare ones, significantly affecting the strength of our deck.
