Pelargoniun Eau de Parfum, a perfumed still life of extraordinary elegance, portrays its namesake ingredient as one of the mysterious floral arrangements of Dutch Golden Age paintings. Perfumer Nathalie Feisthauer extracts geranium from the depths of the perfume pyramid to reveal its complex facets, using freshly chopped leaves that shed light on twilight woods and resins. This masterpiece is not the classic red garden geranium. Pelargonium graveolens, whose name means "sweetly scented", produces one of the most versatile essences in perfumery. Distilled from the leaves of the plant rather than the flowers, this geranium has long been used as a fresh, rosy note, hence the common name "pink geranium." Here, according to Feisthauer, the geranium is less fruity and more balsamic, almost incense-like, and serves as the central motif of this intriguing composition. The perfumer begins by spreading a canvas of fresh orris notes over a neat cedar wood frame. He then paints a dark, smoky background of Haitian vetiver, guaiac wood and musk. The golden light of Calabrian bergamot, crossed by flashes of green cardamom, illuminates the scene, captured by ingredients with a rich consistency that give volume and contrast to the composition. The herbaceous sweetness of the carrot enriches the orris accord; Amber clary sage suggests the softness of velvety leaves. The elemi resin, peppery and similar to incense, is enhanced while a mist of musk smoothes its edges. Grenadille d'Afrique Eau de Parfum expresses not only the name of the tree, but also the primordial landscape in which it grows. We start with the African Blackwood tree, a rare and expensive member of the rosewood family whose Latin name, Dalbergia melanoxylon, translates to "black wood." The title belies the variety of its wood, which ranges from deep purple to brownish black and is also known as granadilla. The ancient Egyptians, who called it h'bny, made precious furniture from its heartwood. Alberto Morillas transforms it into an olfactory sculpture of great elegance. Covered from twigs to roots by an aromatic and fragrant juniper sap, the legendary African Blackwood plant is built around a "trunk" of Haitian vetiver. With its complex facets of wood, smoke, earth and flint, it is the vertical axis that unites the vegetal, animal and mineral notes of the fragrance. Upon first breathing, it's hard to tell whether the scent places us at dusk or dawn. Shimmering bergamot catches the sun's last rays, while a purple mist of lavender and violet scatters its dusty moonlight across the savannah grasslands. Later in its life, vanilla, transformed into combustible resin by a lashing of amber cistus labdanum, exudes a balsamic warmth. Bleached wood, skin-soft bark and sun-warmed stone release the heat of the day into the inky black night, cooled by a mossy breeze. Morillas describes his creation as "fossilized wood rubbed in a vanilla accord", a highly contrasted composition that enriches its dark heart with bright notes. Aedes de Venustas Amnesia Rose Eau de Parfum is a unisex woody perfume. A crisp, saturated spicy floral that pierces with a voluminous plumpness evident on the skin. It is a liquid that smells intensely of saffron and petals adorned with patchouli, in a palette that leaves the territory of fresh rose to enter that of vintage, as if the dust were blown away from a fine red wine. At the first sniff of amnesia rose you capture the moment that follows the twilight of a languid autumn evening, and the draft of a half-open door lets in a bouquet that breaks the stagnant air. A rose that is not deep red or pale pink, but a pale pastel purple that almost looks gray. The edges of its petals are now starting to curl, opening up to that fullness that imitates the shape of the bulb like a cup of tea filled with opulent spices and cuts of precious woods. Its composition was inspired by the still life aesthetic of Aedes Perfumery, a place on New York's Lower East Side where eye-catching decorations spill from large vases alongside vintage fabrics and stuffed and feathered figures. There's incense in the air and probably a paper towel under your nose. The name comes from a variety of rose grown in France. Although its smell is subtle, its image evokes a vintage look and feel that has been translated into Amnesia Rose Eau de Parfum. Perfumer Luca Maffei spent years capturing the essence of perfumery in a bottle, imparting peppery, mysterious tones over time and ensuring he created something that would work on anyone's skin. 'It is an intense rose, whose personality never fades and above all never goes unnoticed,' says Maffei. To create a sustained bloom with woody spice, he contrasted Moroccan rose absolute and Bulgarian rose essence with cypriol oil, saffron and succulent bushman's candle shrub. The smell of fizzy pink pepper is immediately noticeable, but the initial sparkle of Amnesia Rose is soon replaced by a satin density, which lingers until it meets a dry, earthy cushion of labdanum, patchouli and oud. Aedes de Venustas Amnesia Rose comes in a fluted glass bottle featuring peacock blue accents, a matte black cap with debossed insignia, and a sleek yet weighty design.
