Geschnapst Peer Fruitbrandewijn 35cl

Geschnapst Peer Fruitbrandewijn 35cl

Geschnapst Peer Fruitbrandewijn Fruit Brandy, or Schnapps, is something that is drunk often in the alpine countries (where it's enjoyed après-ski) and in Central and Eastern Europe. In these countries, quite frequently it's even distilled at home (almost every family has someone who distils). It's due to this that Nada knew Schnapps. Coming from a mixed Slovenian / Dutch background, she frequently visited her fathers family in Slovenia. Here hospitality is a way of life, where food and drink is enjoyed, and is part of their DNA. Even Nada's cousin produces his own drink for the family to enjoy. When looking for a great Schnapps she could enjoy in the Netherlands, Nada couldn't find anything that compared to what she enjoyed whilst with her family. So she decided to take matters into her own hands. She managed to get the (secret) family recipe, and then went about sourcing quality ingredients and the right people to help her create something special in the Netherlands. To create her Pear Schapps requires fruit, and a lot of it. Nada made a concious decision to utilise 'ugly' fruit. Fruit that has all the taste and flavour that's needed, but might be misshapen, or blemised on the outside.  For this reason, supermarkets aren't interested in it - so often it goes to waste. The taste for juice, or schnapps though is absolutely perfect. Dutch conference & sweet sensation pears are used to create this drink. When combined in the correct ratio, this gives the correct flavour profile. The fruit is juiced, and then allowed to ferment. Once this has been done, its distilled and the fermented juice is turned into a highly alcoholic drink. This is then blended with fresh water, until an abv of 40% is reached. At this point, it's ready.  Good to know: Not only does Nada ensure that fruit which would otherwise go to waste is used, but the distillery also uses 100% green electricity.  The resulting schnapps is a joy to drink. It has a distinct aroma of pears, and this carries through into the taste.  Perfect Serve This can be enjoyed straight up (at room temperature) on its own as an apertitif, a digestif or mixed with a quality tonic as a longer drink. (Nada recommends using a shot or grappa glass)

Glenfiddich Single Malt 12Y Scotch Whisky (Mini) 5cl

Glenfiddich Single Malt 12Y Scotch Whisky (Mini) 5cl

Glenfiddich Single Malt 12Y Scotch Whisky Having been founded in 1886 by William Grant, the first whisky ran from their stills on Christmas Day in 1887. The name actually name comes from the location of the distillery, situated in the glen of the river Fiddich. In scots gaelic Glenfiddich means 'valley of the deer', hence the stag found on the bottles. This whisky has been produced since 2008 and is awarded the world over. It's also the most awarded at the IWSC and claims the distinction of being the world's best-selling single-malt whisky. It's known for both its freshness and distinctive fruitiness, both a result of its production methods. The freshness comes from the highland spring water (used since 1887), and the fruitiness form the high cut point which was insisted on by William Grant himself.  The maturation occurs in both american oak, and european oak sherry casks for at least 12 years. Mellowed in oak marrying tuns to ensure a sweet, yet subtle oak flavour.  On the nose the renowned fresh and fruity aroma comes through with a hint of pear. The taste has fruity notes with a characteristic sweetness. These develop into a creamy butterscotch, delicious malt notes and subtle oak flavours. The finish rounds out long and smooth, finishing deliciously mellow. Read more about Glenfiddich Perfect Serve Whisky is best enjoyed as you like it! With Glenfiddich this is no different. We recommend trying with a few drops of water, or perhaps a single cube of ice. However, as with any quality dram, room temperature and savoured slowly also works exceptionally well.

Clover Lucky No. 4 Gin (Mini) 5cl

Clover Lucky No. 4 Gin (Mini) 5cl

Clover Lucky No. 4 Gin Launched in 2017, and made in Belgium, Clover Lucky N°4 is a more citrus take on the original Clover. It's made with locally grown and sourced ingredients, and they are proud that this is an original and Belgian product. The three leaves of the Clover represent a number of things with this gin. The three sisters who own the company, and their memories of childhood running through clover strewn meadows. Their mother (a botanist), instilled in them a knowledge of herbs, flowers and spices - which sparked a love for all things flora. This knowledge and passion comes through in their products as well. The initial aroma of this gin is perfumed with a delicate herbalness to it. When mixed with tonic, the initial perfume hit is lessened, allowing more of the herbal notes to come through. The taste is delicate too (and makes this a very easy to drink Gin!), with green tea and cardamom perfectly balanced with citrus notes from bergamot (a type of bitter orange crossed with lemon) and clementine.  Being a slightly higher alcohol percentage (44%), it might be thought that this would be a harsher gin than the original Clover, however this is definitely not the case. A light herbal profile comes through at first taste, which develops into the more citrus notes. This doesn't make this a strongly citrus (or sweet) gin, but rather adds a freshness and lightness to the drink. There is the mild hint of green tea throughout the gin, which works well at bringing it together as a whole. The end is delicate again, yet somehow also rich and warming (definitely not harsh though). Interestingly, the juniper notes in this gin are present, but not in any way overpowering, and more as a hint at a background taste. To this end, if may not be one for those who really like the juniper, pine and woody notes of a more classic gin.  This is a really easy gin to drink, especially for those new to the world of gin. The taste is subtle, and can easily be enjoyed without any of the flavours fighting on the tastebuds. Definitely one we would recommend trying as its very unique! Read more about Clover Perfect Serve This is one of the most pleasant, and easy to drink gins we have tried. It's delicate profile means this really is easy to drink neat over ice (maybe a little too easy though... so watch how quickly the bottle goes down!). However, it's definitely worth trying mixed with a neutral tonic such as Three Cents Tonic Water. This really is a delicate gin family as a whole, and any of the flavoured gins could easily overpower what is already a delicious drink! In a good sized glass with plenty of ice, mix 50ml of the gin with 150ml of your chosen tonic. Garnish with a slice of grapefruit (which enhances the citrus profile of the gin), and a sprig of rosemary (which heightens the herbal notes).

G'Vine Floraison Gin (Mini) 5cl

G'Vine Floraison Gin (Mini) 5cl

G'Vine Floraison Gin Setting itself apart from the crowd, G'Vine use a base of alcohol which is distilled from Ugni Blanc grapes. Using this grape "brandy" they then create something really quite special, a definite modern take on gin. After all, what else would the French use than a grape base! But the influence of the grape vine doesn't stop there. They also quite uniquely use the flowers too. These are harvested before the vine can fruit. These are macerated (mixed) and distilled seperately, along with the other 9 botanicals in the gin. After this process is complete, they are blended in just the right quantities before being distilled together once more. The 10 botanics used in the gins creation are juniper, grape flowers, cardamom, cassia, coriander, cubeb pepper, ginger, licorice, lime and nutmeg. The overall result is very refreshing, and quite surprising. On the nose, it opens with a welcome from the lime, and a floral undertone. The juniper comes through gently too, just to remind this is indeed a gin! In the mouth this gin takes you on a complex, and enjoyable journey. It begins with a floral introduction, before the juniper (mildly) comes through along with a gently warmth from ginger and lime. This continues with a touch of pepper, and anise making themselves known - whilst the piney juniper continues.  As the gin finishes, there is a a delicate sweetness which comes onto the tongue. Anise continues through, right to the end, but you are also greeted by the cardamom, a hint of vanilla and then the liquorice roots comes through. Certainly something different - but one we think the citrus and floral gin lovers out there will certainly enjoy! Read more about G'Vine Perfect Serve To fully enjoy the delicate and refreshing flavours in this gin, try in a gin and tonic with a neutral and less sweet tonic, such as East Imperial Old World Tonic Water. If you are looking to enhance the floral notes, try with Royal Botanic Tonic Water instead. With either of these, fill a large glass with ice and pour in 50ml of the gin. Add 150ml of the tonic and stir gently. Garnish simply with a slice of lime.

Gin 1689 Dutch Dry Gin (Mini) 5cl

Gin 1689 Dutch Dry Gin (Mini) 5cl

Gin 1689 This gin is based on an original recipe (from 1689.... hence the name!), by the Dutch William of Orange after he was proclaimed King of England, Ireland and Scotland in 1689. Through painstaking research in the Royal British Library's rare book section, this recipe came to light after being found in the rare books archive. The recipe detailed the original ingredients, but unfortunately the quantities were concealed by code, which to date has not been broken! Not to be deterred, the rights of the recipe were acquired, and a perfect partner found to recreate the delicate flavours of the original gin: Herman Jansen. One of the Netherlands finest distillers, the distillery was founded in 1777 and based in the Dutch Gin & Genever capital Schiedam. Through trial and error, today's recipe was perfected and finalised. The original ingredients from 350 years ago are used, with Gin 1689 beautifully combining juniper with dried quince and pippin (an ancient apple variety), lemon and orange peel, nutmeg, aniseed and clove. It's quite fruity on the nose, but not surprising when you see the recipe. Juniper is present, but takes more of a background role, with a sweet spiciness, and a touch of citrus being much more pronounced. As with all gins, the taste differs when drinking straight (neat, over ice), or with a tonic. When tried neat, the juniper comes forward in the taste with a pleasant tanginess (coming from the quince and apple). Citrus notes are present, but more round the gin off than being too prevalent. When tried with tonic, this really comes alive as the carbonation (bubbles), lift the botanicals allowing more to shine. The citrus is more noticeable when drunk this way. Coming in a brilliant blue bottle, with regal gold lettering befitting its Royal background, the overall result is definitely fit for a King! Read more about Gin 1689 Perfect Serve Try sipping this gin neat over ice to really appreciate the recipe, and time taken to bring this gin back to life. If enjoying as a G&T we recommend Fever-Tree Premium Indian Tonic Water. 50ml of gin to 150ml of tonic is a good ratio to work with, but feel free to adjust to your taste. Garnish with a slice of orange and a few juniper berries.

Soplica Cytryna-Malina 50cl

Chivas Regal 18Y Gold Signature Whisky (Mini) 5cl

Chivas Regal 18Y Gold Signature Whisky (Mini) 5cl

Chivas Regal 18Y Gold Signature Whisky Produced by Chivas Brothers (which is owned by Pernod Ricard) at the Strathisla distillery in Keith, Moray in Speyside (Scotland, UK). This distillery was founded in 1786, and is the oldest continuously operating Highland distillery. Launched in 1997 and created by Master Blender Colin Scott, this 18 year old aged whisky is a blend of over 20 single malts from across Scotland. The aging within the carefully selected casks develops intense flavours and ensures a refined whisky. According to Chivas it has an incredible 85 different flavour notes in each drop. So truly complex, rich and luxurious. The nose is rich and indulgent, drawing you into the whisky with multiple layers of aroma. Dried fruits and buttery toffee merge with dark chocolate and warming spices, all of which are rounded off with a touch of marmalade. On the palate the warming spices come through, on a drink which is velvet like, coating the mouth perfectly. The marmalade again comes through, merging with dark chocolate, a little mellow oak and smoke as well as a touch of elegant floral tones.  On the finish the warm notes of spice, oak and in particular cinnamon come to the mouth - and finish extremely warm and long. More from Chivas Regal Perfect Serve Whilst we found this delicious simply sipped neat, we also find the comled and elegant flavours add a new dimension and a definite upgrade to your whisky based cocktails.

Brighton Gin Pavilion Strength (Mini) 5cl

Brighton Gin Pavilion Strength (Mini) 5cl

Brighton Gin Pavilion Strength The Brighton Gin distillery is located in the vibrant seaside town of Brighton (on the south coast of England), and has a focus on sustainable and ethical production. Brighton Gin was created from a love of gin, and a love of Brighton,, living the values of the city, being independent, fun-loving, open-minded and adventurous. Whether you are a gin enthusist or have just started your gin journey, this premium gin has been made for you. Brighton Gin is made using an alcohol base made of 100% organic pure wheat. Not only is Brighton Gin certified vegan (including the waxed bottle tops), but due to the distillation process, it's also gluten free. Their delicious gins are made using a blend of botanicals that include juniper, fresh orange and lime peel, as well as locally grown coriander, which is the first grown commercially in the UK in over 200 years. These are joined by milk thistle (a flowering herb), which is indigenous to the South Downs, an area of outstanding natural beauty in the south of England. Brighton Gin Pavilion Strength is a classic gin with a delicate spice backnote, and subtle juniper. Joined with hints of orange through the drink, this makes it an easily approachable (and drunk) gin. The lime and milk thistle help to make this particularly refreshing and deliciously smooth   More from Brighton Gin Perfect Serve For a refreshing G&T add 50ml Brighton Gin Pavilion Strength into a glass with ice and top up with 150-200ml of mixer and garnish with a slice of orange. Brighton Gin founder, Kathy prefers a light tonic or soda water - why not mix with Fentimans (they have both). If you prefer a herbaceously and fragrant cocktail, then a Basil Smash is perfect (and not so hard to make). Activate the basil (8 leaves), by giving it a slap in your hands, then place in a cocktail shaker and use a muddler to bash them up a bit. Add 60ml Brighton Gin Pavilion Strength, 25ml fresh lime juice and 15ml sugar syrup. Add ice and shake, shake, shake for about 15 seconds. Double strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with a basil leaf. If you like a longer drink, pour into a highball glass and top up with soda water.
