Texelse TX Wodka Stokerij Texel was founded by Jaco Spek and Kees Groenewoud, both of whom share a passion for the sea, Texel and the wad and for producing (and consuming) honest, quality local products. Produced on the Dutch Island of Texel itself, Stokerij (distillery in Dutch) Texel create their classic vodka with a Texel Twist. Made using as much local wheat as possible, they produce the alcohol base used to make their Vodka. To this they then add a small quantity of cranberries sourced locally in Texel. These are found in a number of locations amongst the Texel dunes. The distillation is done several times before being purified through activated carbon. This ensures a soft, pure tasting vodka. Lastly, the vodka is bottled in the iconic black bottles, which feature scenes from Texel. Unicum Zwack Szilva One of the oldest herbal liqueurs to be found in Europe, the original Unicum Zwack recipe comprises over 40 different herbs. Most of these are sourced from within the Carpathian basin, but some are also imported from all over the world (Morocco, China, India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Nigeria, the Americas and even Australia). Its history dates back over 230 years to 1790, and the recipe has remained the same over this time, and is a closely guarded secret of the six generations of the Zwack family who have been producing it in Hungary.   Just like the original Unicum Zwack, their Szilva (plum in Hungarian) edition, has the same process of preparing (and used the same ingredients). The only difference (as you might suggest from the name), is that this is the first herb liqueur in the world to be aged over dried plums. This gives this variety a distinctive harmony, and a rounded, velvery and highly fruit fuelled taste.  Interesting fact: So they know which is which during the aging process, the Unicum classic is aged in red edged barrels whilst the Unicum Szilva is aged in gold edged barrels. More from Unicum Perfect Serve This is easily enjoyed as a shot. Simpy pour 2 - 4cl of the Unicum into a short glass, and enjoy as a fruity digestif after a meal. For a longer drink, try a Zwack Szilva & Soda. In a highball glass add a couple of cubes of ice. Pour in 40ml of Unicum Szilva, 20ml of fresh lime juice, and 15ml of sugar syrup. Glenfiddich Single Malt 12Y Scotch Whisky Having been founded in 1886 by William Grant, the first whisky ran from their stills on Christmas Day in 1887. The name actually name comes from the location of the distillery, situated in the glen of the river Fiddich. In scots gaelic Glenfiddich means 'valley of the deer', hence the stag found on the bottles. This whisky has been produced since 2008 and is awarded the world over. It's also the most awarded at the IWSC and claims the distinction of being the world's best-selling single-malt whisky. It's known for both its freshness and distinctive fruitiness, both a result of its production methods. The freshness comes from the highland spring water (used since 1887), and the fruitiness form the high cut point which was insisted on by William Grant himself.  The maturation occurs in both american oak, and european oak sherry casks for at least 12 years. Mellowed in oak marrying tuns to ensure a sweet, yet subtle oak flavour.  On the nose the renowned fresh and fruity aroma comes through with a hint of pear. The taste has fruity notes with a characteristic sweetness. These develop into a creamy butterscotch, delicious malt notes and subtle oak flavours. Gin Mare Capri A place which conjures images of elegance, style and the Italian lifestyle.... the island of Capri, in the gulf of Naples. It is from here that Gin Mare have taken inspiration for their new Gin, ten years after creating their iconic Mediterranean gin. In a beautiful blue glass bottle, inspiration has been taken from the famous Blue Caves of Capri, and the quality feel continues with a canvas printed label. A collar label, in the shape of the Island rounds this off hung delicately from the neck of the bottle. Two new ingredients make themselves known in this edition; In keeping with their other botanicals (all from the mediterranean region) these are Lemons from Capri and bergamot. These are added to the distinctive, mediterranean botanicals found in Gin Mare, being Arbequina Olives from Spain, Basil from Italy, Rosemary from Greece, and Thyme from Turkey. They keep the same artisinal approach in making this gin as they do in the original Gin Mare. The citrus fruits are all peeled by hand, before being macerated for 12 months in small containers. This ensures a real depth of flavour. The flavours and aromas of this edition are reminiscent of its older brother, but with the added enrichment of deeper herbal and citrus profiles (both in taste, and aroma) from the lemons and bergamot. Tanqueray No. Ten Gin It may be hard to imagine improving on the original Tanqueray, but this gin does just that. Introduced to the world in 2000 it was developed with an extreme passion for quality, and attention to detail which resulted in a gin which, we have to admit, is an exquisite addition to any bar, or drinks cupboard. Tanqueray No. Ten utilises the classic botanicals from Tanqueray (Juniper, Coriander, Angelica root and Licorice), but instead of a double-distillation process, a four times distillation process is used. It is made in small batches to ensure quality in each batch. Fresh citrus flavours from limes, orange and pink grapefruit are then added, along with chamomile flowers to "Tiny Ten" (the still which gives the gin its name), which enhances this premium gin even further. The end result is a gin which is enjoyed the world over by bartenders, restauranteurs, and gin connoissseurs in general. Delightful, delicious, and exquisite citrus burts are to be found in every sip. It takes the already great Tanqueray to a new level. The citrus giving new heights of refreshment, and the chamomile adding a gentle floral edge to the aroma. We can certainly see why this is so well thought of, and feel its a must add to any gin shelf. They have expanded on their original ten botanicals by adding two carefully selected additional botanicals. These are the Ambrette seed (which they source solely from Ecuador) and the gently dried and hand-picked bergamot orange peel (from Calabria in southern Italy). Slowing down the vapour infusion process, they ensure the integrity of the 12 botanicals. This means the distillation process takes longer, and ensures rich aromas and deeper flavours in the gin. The whole process ensures that Star Of Bombay is an exceptionally smooth gin, with a distinctly intenser flavour than the original Bombay Sapphire from the additional botanicals. Having obtained land from the King of Spain in 1758, Jose Antonio de Cuervo y Valdes began producing Tequila Today, using the experience and craftmanship which has been handed down through generations, Cuervo still produce quality Tequilas. Ketel 1 Jenever This Jenever takes its name from the Ketel (still) used in its creation. Ketel 1 is the oldest copper pot still in Schiedam (the historic home of Jenever in the Netherlands). and is still in use today. With over 325 years, and 11 generations of the Nolet family watching over it's production, there is a lot of history and expertise used in its creation.  This Jenever is created using pure ingredients. Grain distillates are mixed with an aged grain spirit, along with a carefully selected (and still secret) blend of herbs. The distillers believe this is best savoured quietly, which allows the flavours to speak. It's fresh and full on the palate with notes of juniper and pepper. The finish is exceptionally long, ending soft. More from Ketel One Perfect Serve Easily enjoyed on its own, from a Tulip glass - this jenever also works exceptionally well in the mix. A modern take on a classic dry gin, Martin Miller's uses the best traditions of English distillers. However, they add their own twist to it. The botanicals used with the gin are juniper, angelica, dried lemon peel, cassia, coriander seeds, dried lime peel, liquorice root, nutmeg, bitter orange peel and florentine iris. Once the distillation of these botanicals is complete, the distillate is shipped to Iceland. It is here that it is blended to strength using Icelandic spring water. This water is renowned for its purity, resulting in no artificial demineralisation needed which further enhances the gentle bouquet and trademark sensation. The result of the whole process is a gin which is smooth and citrus. It has an excellent balance where, like a "classic gin" juniper is dominant. Yet it has a citrus freshness which shines through. A gin that "tastes of gin" as the distiller says. Overall, Martin Miller's gin has a junipery pine aroma, which merges perfectly with fresh lemon peel. In the background theres a delicate pepperiness. On the palate there is a very delicate liquorice sweetness, which works perfectly with the citrus which is forward on the taste, along with gentle spice notes. It's soft and delicate, and extremely smooth in the mouth. The finish is warming, very smooth, with lemon lingering. In a large glass filled with lots of ice pour 50ml of the gin and top up with 150-200ml of tonic. Garnish with a quartered strawberry.
