IBHU Indlovu Gin (Mini) 5cl

IBHU Indlovu Gin (Mini) 5cl

IBHU Indlovu Gin Whilst on a safari in Kenya, the founders were enjoying a g&t whilst watching a herd of elephants. Their guide was telling how particular elephants are in their browsiing habits, yet actually digest little of what they eat. So.... an idea was born.... would it be possible to make elephant dung gin? This is truly a gin made in Africa, which is designed by elephants! (Don't worry.... the dung is carefully collected, then washed and dried before being distilled!) Indlovu is even the word for elephant in several South African languages. It's these majestic animals which dictate, in their foraging habits, the botanicals utilised in the creation of this gin. This gin has a true provenance to it, similar to wines. The dung is collected in different locations, and at different times of the year. This dictates some of the botanicals found in the gin. On the back of each bottle are two numbers, the first is the co-ordinates of the game reserve where its collected, and the second is the date when it was collected. Whilst the elephants help in the making of the gin, the classical botanicals in the gin are Juniper, Angelica, Orris Root, Coriander and citrus. Those which are chosen by the elephants could include Buccu (Agathosma crenulata), Acacia (Acacia mearnsii), Guarii (Euclea undulata) and Erica (Erica coccinea) (which are the elephants’ favourite foods). This does however change season to season. The aroma contains juniper, and has an almost grass-like earthiness to it along with a hint of citrus. The flavour is of a fairly classic gin, with a juniper backbone and a hint of citrus. However, there is also an intruiging spiciness, which differs marginally based on the elephant chosen botanicals. The finish is perfectly balanced, with a delicious smoothness, and leaves a creaminess in the mouth. Read more about IBHU Perfect Serve Whilst this works perfectly in a classic g&t (which is after all what inspired its creation) try in the mix to really create a talking point. Try an Indlovu egumbini (Elephant in the room) cocktail. In a mixing glass filled with ice, add 60ml of the gin, 15ml of Cointreau and a splash of fresh orange juice. Stir well, and pour into a glass with a few ice cubes. Top up with a light tonic of your choice (try The Artisan Drinks Co), and garnish with a few coffee beans and a twist of orange peel.

IBHU Indlovu Citrus Gin (Mini) 5cl

IBHU Indlovu Citrus Gin (Mini) 5cl

IBHU Indlovu Citrus Gin The story beging IBHU's Pink gin starts the same way as with their original (and unique) gin. Whilst on a safari in Kenya, the founders were enjoying a g&t whilst watching a herd of elephants. This does however change season to season. With the Citrus gin, more of the elephants favourite foods are added to the gin. Taking their classic gin the folks at IBHU infuse it with the delicious marula fruit and wild oranges. This ensures there is a wonderfully fruity character to the gin, as well as the ancient spirit of the African savannah. The elephants absolutely love the deliciously tangy marula fruit - in fact it's probably their favourite food. Along with this, they also love wild oranges, and their heightened sense of smell means they can sniff them out at great distances! The two blend perfectly with the classic gin, giving another unique dimension to the Indlovu range of gins. Read more about IBHU Perfect Serve Whilst this is delicious in a classic gin & tonic (try with Fentimans Connoiseurs Tonic, or their Valencian Orange), we particularly loved this in an Indlovu Citrus Fizz. Take a tall glass filled with ice and add 40ml of the gin, 80ml of fresh orange juice and a splash of lime juice. Stir gently, and then fill the glass with soda water. Garnish with a sprig of rosemary and a slice of fresh orange.

V2C Classic Dutch Dry Gin (Mini) 5cl

V2C Classic Dutch Dry Gin (Mini) 5cl

V2C Classic Dutch Dry Gin V2C takes pride in its home (Amsterdam), but like the Dutch of old, looks to the wider world when thinking of ingredients. They ensure that the gin is created to the highest standards, and use ingredients harvested from across the world. With their name, they indicate the intent behind the gin. Four friends founded V2C, and it was named after the address they lived during their studies, the famous Victor de Stuersstraat 2C in Maastricht. To this end, the gin was created to encourage lively conversation and good times with friends. With their Classic gin, they pay homage to the more classic gin flvaours, but with a definite V2C twist. They use the freshest juniper, orange, licorice, laurel and St John’s Wort, which they subtly spice with coriander, cardamom, lemon and ginger. This is a gin which is definitely juniper-forward (another "classic" part to the gin), which is joined perfectly with soft spice and tangy fruit. This brings a subtle, light complexity to the drink. The taste has a lot of oily juniper which coats the mouth perfectly. Pine and cardamom spice are balanced by refreshing citrus notes. Theres also a hint of vanilla flower which creeps in. All round this is a delicious gin, classic, but with something a little extra. Read more about V2C Perfect Serve Serve in a highball glass or copa with a lot of ice cubes. Pour in 50ml of the gin, and top up the glass with 150 - 200ml of Fentimans Premium Tonic Water. Garnish with a slice of fresh ginger, fresh lemon and a few juniper berries. Alternatively, replace the Tonic with Rose Lemonade for a slightly sweeter drink. Garnish with a sliced strawberry and a few mint leaves. It also holds up exceptionally well in cocktails, so we encourage trying this out!

Gin 1689 Dutch Dry Gin (Mini) 5cl

Gin 1689 Dutch Dry Gin (Mini) 5cl

Gin 1689 This gin is based on an original recipe (from 1689.... hence the name!), by the Dutch William of Orange after he was proclaimed King of England, Ireland and Scotland in 1689. Through painstaking research in the Royal British Library's rare book section, this recipe came to light after being found in the rare books archive. The recipe detailed the original ingredients, but unfortunately the quantities were concealed by code, which to date has not been broken! Not to be deterred, the rights of the recipe were acquired, and a perfect partner found to recreate the delicate flavours of the original gin: Herman Jansen. One of the Netherlands finest distillers, the distillery was founded in 1777 and based in the Dutch Gin & Genever capital Schiedam. Through trial and error, today's recipe was perfected and finalised. The original ingredients from 350 years ago are used, with Gin 1689 beautifully combining juniper with dried quince and pippin (an ancient apple variety), lemon and orange peel, nutmeg, aniseed and clove. It's quite fruity on the nose, but not surprising when you see the recipe. Juniper is present, but takes more of a background role, with a sweet spiciness, and a touch of citrus being much more pronounced. As with all gins, the taste differs when drinking straight (neat, over ice), or with a tonic. When tried neat, the juniper comes forward in the taste with a pleasant tanginess (coming from the quince and apple). Citrus notes are present, but more round the gin off than being too prevalent. When tried with tonic, this really comes alive as the carbonation (bubbles), lift the botanicals allowing more to shine. The citrus is more noticeable when drunk this way. Coming in a brilliant blue bottle, with regal gold lettering befitting its Royal background, the overall result is definitely fit for a King! Read more about Gin 1689 Perfect Serve Try sipping this gin neat over ice to really appreciate the recipe, and time taken to bring this gin back to life. If enjoying as a G&T we recommend Fever-Tree Premium Indian Tonic Water. 50ml of gin to 150ml of tonic is a good ratio to work with, but feel free to adjust to your taste. Garnish with a slice of orange and a few juniper berries.

Ballantine's Finest Whisky (Mini) 5cl

Ballantine's Finest Whisky (Mini) 5cl

Ballantine's Finest Whisky With a heritage that dates back to 1827, Ballantines is one of the most known and loved Scotch Whisky brands in the world. It started with George Ballantine in a small grocery store in Edinburgh. Here he would supply a range of whiskies to his customers. his developed into a larger establishment in Edinburgh, where along with his son George Junior they began to create their own blends. In 1920, the recipe for Ballantine's Finest was created, and it has stayed true to the original ever since. The result is a whisky which has become Europe's No. 1 Scotch Whisky, and was voted the World's Best Blended Scotch in 2020. Fun Fact: During prohibition, the bottles were designed to be square so that American Salesmen could conceal them in their briefcases without them rolling around should any inspectors be around! Finest is a great classic all-rounder. It has a light gold colour, and a nose which is soft, with notes of heather, honey and just a hint of delicate spice. The flavour is balanced well, subtle, and has hints of milk chocolate, red apples and vanilla. The finish leaves the palate feeling fresh, with a floral after-taste. More from Ballantine's Perfect Serve As a classic, balanced all-rounder, this is easily enjoyed on its own, over ice, or with a splash of water. It works well in the mix too, either in cocktails, or more simply with a mixer such as cola or ginger ale. Try adding 50ml to a highball glass filled with ice, then top up with a quality cola or ginger ale (we like Fentimans). Delicious, and really refreshing.

Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt Scotch Whisky (Mini) 5cl

Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt Scotch Whisky (Mini) 5cl

Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt Scotch Whisky First produced in Scotland by Willian Grant & Sons in 2003, Monkey Shoulder is a blended malt whisky (the style used to be called 'Vatted Malt Whisky'). Since it's introduction it has fast grown to become the world's third best-selling brand of Scotch Whisky.  Whilst Monkey Shoulder has only been produced since 2003, William Grant & Sons has been distilling award-winning Scotch whiskies since 1887. It was created primarily to ensure the perfect whisky cocktail (but of course can also be enjoyed straight!). It was originally a blend from the Balbenie, Glenfiddich, and Kininvie distillers - but it's current composition is a secret. However it is known that its constituent malt whiskies originate from the Speyside region of Scotland (the area around the River Spey in northeastern Scotland). Fun Fact: The brand name 'Monkey Shoulder' is a reference to a repetitive strain injury which distillery workers often suffered from. This was due to long shifts turning malt by hand. On the nose there is zesty orange, with vanilla honey and spiced oak. On the palate there is a mild vanilla flavour, with hints of spice. As it was made to be mixed, its smooth, malty and fruit notes are strong enough to stand out in the mix - but remain balanced so as not to over-power a cocktail. More from Monkey Shoulder Perfect Serve As mentioned, this is a whisky which was made for mixing - and so we have a couple of options. Firstly, for a refreshing OMG (Orange / Monkey / Ginger), a variation on the Ginger Mule. Take a tall glass filled with ice and add 50ml of the Monkey Shoulder and 120ml of your favourite ginger ale (we like Fentimans). Stir gently and garnish with a wedge of Orange. For a Rob Roy Cocktail, take a mixing glass filled with ice and add 50ml of Monkey Shoulder, 25ml of Sweet Vermouth, and 3 dashes of Angostura Bitters. Mix well until chilled and then strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with some orange zest.

Minke Irish Gin (Mini) 5cl

Minke Irish Gin (Mini) 5cl

Minke Irish Gin The founders of the Clonakilty distillery (located on the southwest coast of Ireland), the Scully family, have farmed their windswept coastal area of 9 successive generations. Through their love of the land, and knowledge of the area they found the best resouces for a maritime distillery. The distillery itself is located right at the waterfront, in the heart of Clonakilty town. Not only do they distill here, but also offer the public the option to see how their fantastic drinks are made. Produced at their distillery, Minke Irish gin is inspired by the maritime environment. From the Minke Whales seen swimming off the coast (giving their gin its name), to the Rock Samphire, a key botanical in their gin. This is sustainably harvested by hand from the Atlantic Ocean coastline and gives the gin a distinctly martitime flavour. Centuries of sea mist, soft rain and ocean spray provide a complexity to the soil that permeates through to the grass which feeds the cows that help produce whey. It is this whey that is used to create the base alcohol spirit used in making their Minke gin. It also gives a unique velvety texture and mouthfeel to it. This truly is a full circle gin, going 'from grass to glass'. Good to know: The Clonakilty Distillery support Whale and Dolphin Conservation in their worldwide quest to protect these majestic creatures. On the nose this is crisp and dry, reminiscent of a sea breeze. The flavour is also fresh and zesty. As the drink develops on the palate the Rock Samphire comes through with green, fennel-like flavours. It finishes with a slight saltiness, and warmth from red peppercorns. More from the Clonakilty Distillery Perfect Serve This makes a deliciously refreshing Gin & Tonic. Take a large glass and add a few large ice cubes. Pour in 60ml of Minke Gin and 120ml of your favourite tonic. We like Three Cents Tonic Water, or if you're feeling like adding more maritime notes - try with Three Cents Aegean Tonic Water. Garnish with two slices of lemon or lime and a fresh mint leaf.

Van Kleef Gin (Mini) 5cl

Blind Tiger Imperial Secrets Gin (Mini) 5cl

Blind Tiger Imperial Secrets Gin (Mini) 5cl

Blind Tiger Imperial Secrets Gin Whilst it gives a striking look to the bottle, there is a reason behind the name of Blind Tiger. Another name for a speakeasy, A blind tiger was a hidden bar which served alcohol during the period of prohibition. The door of the place would have the picture of a blind tiger or a blind pig, so those in the know would know where to go! Blind Tiger's Imperial Secrets gin is made in small batches in a "concealed" distillery in the west of Belgium, they macerate and distill the botanicals together before adding seperately distilled teas afterwards. And it is these teas which make this gin something unique and different. Three different Imperial black teas, Indian harmutty Assam tea, Imperial pu-erh himalaya cashmere from the Himalayas and Chinese Yunan matured tea are meticulously distilled to extract their flavours, before being blended and added to the gin. This is a smooth and lucious gin which also takes notes from a botanical blend which includes juniper berries, coriander seeds, grains of paradise, angelica and iris root, lemon peel, bitter almonds and lemon grass. All impart something special to the gin. This is a very well balanced gin overall, between spicy and floral. A smooth gin, its initial nose opens with a little spice, juniper and almond. The taste has mild hints of citrus, coriander and lemongrass, which is backed up by the black tea. Floral notes also come through, particularly from the black teas, and these are what linger on the palate at the end of the drink. Differently delicious! Read more about Blind Tiger Perfect Serve This gins smooth and balanced complexity is best enjoyed neat, over ice or paired with a clean and smooth tonic. For this we recommend Three-Cents Tonic Water. In a glass, add 50ml of gin to 150ml of tonic, and garnish with a slice of lemon. The full flavour also works well with Fentimans Ginger Ale. Swap out the tonic for the ale for an added ginger kick to the drink.
