Penderyn Single Malt Welsh Whisky - Peated 70cl

Penderyn Single Malt Welsh Whisky - Peated "From Wales to the world..." - Penderyn Distillery The Penderyn distillery is located on the edge of the Brecon Beacons (a National Park in Wales, UK). It was launched on St David's Day in 2004 (the patron saint of Wales), in the presence of King Charles III (then HRH Prince Charles, who was the Prince of Wales).  The location was chosen due to a fresh natural spring located in the Village. They also use a unique copper single-pot still, which was designed by Dr David Faraday (a relative of the famous 19th Century Scientist). This was installed in 2000 and produces a spirit at 92%, which is an industry high. Penderyn state this is one of the reasons that their whiskies are light, fruity and full of flavour. As if this wasn't enough to ensure a world-class product, they hired Dr Jum Swan, a Scottish Whisky expert as their Master Distiller. Things have gone from strength to strength since their launch, and they have won over 100 Double Gold / Gold / Masters awards, and is available in over 50 countries the world over, including the key markets for whisky of France, Germany, the USA and China.  For their Gold range, in which their Peated edition sits, Penderyn have taken inspiration from Welsh Gold. Extremely rare, pure and precious it was worn by the legendary Welsh princes of old. Their peated edition (as the name would suggest) has a medium peaty character. Interestingly, this is also certified as Kosher. The nose has a sweet aromatic smokiness, with vanilla, green apple and refreshing citrus. The flavours are complex, yet gentle with a light smoke and citrus fruitiness. It finishes with smoke and vanilla. Penderyn Myth Single Malt Welsh Whisky 70cl

Penderyn Myth Single Malt Welsh Whisky 70cl

Penderyn Myth Single Malt Welsh Whisky "From Wales to the world..."

Sylvius Dutch Dry Gin 70cl

Sylvius Dutch Dry Gin 70cl

Sylvius Dutch Dry Gin Created at the Onder de Boompjes Distillery, which has been distilling in Schiedam in the Netherlands since 1658. The name for this gin comes from Dr. Franciscus Sylvius, who it has been said was the first to create gin. He registered his distillate, calling it "Genevre". And so Schiedam's history with Genever (and gin) began. In creating this gin the distillery carefully selected ten different botanicals (juniper berries, angelica root, coriander seeds, lavender, whole lemons, orange zest, cinnamon, star anise, licorice root and caraway seeds. They then use 'ultra' wheat spirit to distil the botanicals - and after a few more processes - create this delicious gin. On the nose there are distinct aromas of the caraway along with cinnamon, a little lavender and just a hint of fresh lemon. On the palate the caraway also comes through initially, but this isnt all. This is a complex blend of balanced botanicals. Delicate floral notes join with piney juniper on the mid palate. The spice continues through into the finish, where the caraway comes back and is joined bit a delicate sweetness from licorice, and a touch of fennel. Perfect Serve We love this in a Negroni, as the flavours blend perfectly - however it also makes a delicious and intruiging gin & tonic.  Take a large glass filled with ice and add 50ml of the gin. Gently pour over 150 - 200ml of tonic (we like Fentimans Connoisseurs Tonic here - but their Valencian Orange works too), and stir gently. Garnish with a few juniper berries and a slice of orange.

Angostura Aromatic Bitters 20cl

Angostura Aromatic Bitters 20cl

Edinburgh Gin 1670 (Mini) 5cl

Edinburgh Gin 1670 (Mini) 5cl

Edinburgh Gin 1670 With the natural connection between botany and distilling, this gin is a limited edition collaboration between Edinburgh Gin, and the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh. Inspiration for this gin was taken after the discovery of the "1670 Physic Garden". This was used as a source of botanical inspired medicinal remedies by two Edinburgh doctors, Robert Sibbald and Andrew Balfour. Over a 12 month period, David Wilkinson (Edinburgh Gin's Head distiller) worked with the Royal Botanic Garden's head botanist. The recipe was experimented with, and refined until both were happy.  Many of the botanicals which were finally decided upon would also have been found in the original garden, such as fennel (seeds and leaves) and sweet cicely both quite common, alongside exotic plants such as Piper Leaf, Tasmannia Lanceolata leaf and Tasmanian Mountain Pepper. The result? A contemporary gin which keeps its roots firmly in a fascinating chapter of Edinburgh’s history. "At Edinburgh Gin we are constantly striving to create new, classic gins with a modern twist. Working so closely with Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and Botanist, Dr Greg Kenicer, enabled us to experiment with a range of handpicked botanicals to create an enticingly aromatic gin with lively herbaceous – almost floral notes – with added peppery spice" - David Wilkinson, Head Distiller at Edinburgh Gin Read more about Edinburgh Gin Perfect Serve This distinctive gin can be enjoyed in a classic G&T, served with a premium Indian Tonic Water such as Double Dutch Indian Tonic Water. 50ml of the gin, and 150ml of the tonic work perfectly. Garnish with a fresh basil leaf to finish the drink off. It also works well in cocktails as its crisp notes complement classic cocktails such as the Martini.

Angostura Cocoa Bitters 10cl

Angostura Cocoa Bitters 10cl

Angostura Cocoa Bitters The original Angostura Aromatic Bitters were created by Dr Johann Gottlieb Benjamin Siegert, who was Surgeon General in Simon Bolivar's army in Venezuela. The drink was originally created for a use as a medicine, but survives to this day due to its wonderful richness and complexity that adds a great "extra dimension" to a drink. Their Cocoa Bitters, whilst used in a similar way to the original (enhancing drinks, deserts and food), are created using their own special recipe - using Trinitario cocoa from Trinidad and Tobago. When this cocoa is paired with 200 years of experience, a decadent indulgent new flavour was added to Angostura's portfolio of bitters! This rich, dark brown bitters has a distinct nose from the Cocoa. These are joined with warm spices, and just a hint of citrus. On the palate there are ricj, floral and nutty cocoa flavours which combine with aromatic botanicals. Together these tantalise the tastebuds in a way only cocoa can! More from The House of Angostura Perfect Serve This is a really versatile bitter, and works exceptionally well when paired with sweet vermouth or aged spirits, like whiskey, rum, cognac and tequila. However it also adds a really luxurious flavour to a main dish or sweet treat. We love this added to an espresso martini, where it gives a delicious extra note to the drink. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice add 45ml of Vodka (we like Tito's, but any premium vodka will do), 15ml of coffee liqueur (we like Conker Cold Brew), 30ml of fresh espresso, 15ml of simple syrup and 6 dashes of cocoa bitters. Shake vigorously and pour into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a cocktail bean or two.
