Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt Scotch Whisky (Mini) 5cl

Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt Scotch Whisky (Mini) 5cl

Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt Scotch Whisky First produced in Scotland by Willian Grant & Sons in 2003, Monkey Shoulder is a blended malt whisky (the style used to be called 'Vatted Malt Whisky'). Since it's introduction it has fast grown to become the world's third best-selling brand of Scotch Whisky.  Whilst Monkey Shoulder has only been produced since 2003, William Grant & Sons has been distilling award-winning Scotch whiskies since 1887. It was created primarily to ensure the perfect whisky cocktail (but of course can also be enjoyed straight!). It was originally a blend from the Balbenie, Glenfiddich, and Kininvie distillers - but it's current composition is a secret. However it is known that its constituent malt whiskies originate from the Speyside region of Scotland (the area around the River Spey in northeastern Scotland). Fun Fact: The brand name 'Monkey Shoulder' is a reference to a repetitive strain injury which distillery workers often suffered from. This was due to long shifts turning malt by hand. On the nose there is zesty orange, with vanilla honey and spiced oak. On the palate there is a mild vanilla flavour, with hints of spice. As it was made to be mixed, its smooth, malty and fruit notes are strong enough to stand out in the mix - but remain balanced so as not to over-power a cocktail. More from Monkey Shoulder Perfect Serve As mentioned, this is a whisky which was made for mixing - and so we have a couple of options. Firstly, for a refreshing OMG (Orange / Monkey / Ginger), a variation on the Ginger Mule. Take a tall glass filled with ice and add 50ml of the Monkey Shoulder and 120ml of your favourite ginger ale (we like Fentimans). Stir gently and garnish with a wedge of Orange. For a Rob Roy Cocktail, take a mixing glass filled with ice and add 50ml of Monkey Shoulder, 25ml of Sweet Vermouth, and 3 dashes of Angostura Bitters. Mix well until chilled and then strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with some orange zest.

The Glenlivet Founders Reserve Whisky (Mini) 5cl

The Glenlivet Founders Reserve Whisky (Mini) 5cl

The Glenlivet Founders Reserve Whisky For their Founders Reserve, The Glenlivet have created an expression which is a tribute to George Smith, their founder. This has all the classic flavours of The Glenlivet, but is a a smooth creamier expression. They have utilised the time-honoured distillation methods which George Smith used, as well as the same mountain stream water.  This is then matured in traditional oak casks. When George Smith created his blends, there were no age-statements on whisky's. Instead he utilised his freedom in selecting and blending, and with this expression The Glenlivet have done the same - selecting whisky from traditional ages oak casks from a range of ages. To give a modern twist, their Mast Distiller (Alan Winchester) then marries a selection of the aged oak casks and American first-fill oak casks. These first-fill oak casks haven't been used to mature whisky, and when used selectively provide a smooth, creamy sweetness. This intermingles perfectly with the delicate flavours and fruity tonies already in the whisky.  The result is a whisky that The Glenlivet believe their founder would approve of. It has a pale gold colour, which gives an aroma full of sweet citrus fruits, with orange being predominant. In the mouth the orange again comes through, with a zestiness which is complimented by pear flavours and a touch of toffee apples. The flavours give a delicious blend of creamy sweetness and a refreshing zestiness from the citrus. The finish is pleasantly long, very smooth and creamy right to the end. Read more about The Glenlivet Perfect Serve Deliciously smooth this whisky is easily enjoyed neat, or simply served on the rocks. However for something different, try a Grain and Cane cocktail. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice add 50ml of the whisky, 5 - 6 fresh raspberries, 15ml lemon juice, 5ml of white balsamic vinegar and 15ml of sugar syrup. Shake vigorously, then strain over crushed ice in a highball glass. Garnish with fresh raspberries, and a twist of black pepper.

Here he would supply a range of whiskies to his customers. his developed into a larger establishment in Edinburgh, where along with his son George Junior they began to create their own blends. In 1920, the recipe for Ballantine's Finest was created, and it has stayed true to the original ever since. The result is a whisky which has become Europe's No. 1 Scotch Whisky, and was voted the World's Best Blended Scotch in 2020. Rynbende Vintage Genever (Mini) 5cl

Rynbende Vintage Genever (Mini) 5cl

The Mayor of Exploration: Rynbende Vintage Genever Introduction Rynbende have a history going back more than 200 years. The distillery was established in 1793, by Simon Rybende in the world's Jenever capital, Schiedam. A former sailor, he turned to business, and distilling, and was even appointed the Mayor of Schiedam. A New Generation of Rynbende The Rynbende brand has had highs and lows during it's history and was re-ignited again in 2022, when the original Rynbende recipes were passed down to another generation through inheritance . Now called Rynbende Spirits, the focus is on producing high end spirits, with a selective distribution network (of which Gin Fling is happy to be one). Authentic Rynbended Botanicals Rynbender Vintage Genever was the first spirit to be launched and based on an old recipe found in the inherited recipe book. 'The Mayor of Exploration' is an old genever and is an ode to the glory days of the original distillery, containing authentic botanicals (peppermint leaf, angelica seed, cinnamon, clove, hyssop, angelica root, cardamom and mace) which gave it it's signature taste, setting it apart from the competition. Traditional Distilling Rynbende is distilled according to the Schiedam tradition from 1902, which produces a purer drink. It is made with malt wine that has been aged for 3 years in American oak barrels, and with smoky malt whiskey and vodka aged in European oak barrels for 25 years. This is a drink that will suit both jenever and whiskey lovers alike. Tasting Notes Aroma: Juniper berries are combined with cinnamon, camphor and a hint of peat, with underlying floral and fresh citrus notes Taste: Warm, woody notes are complimented by mint leaves, cloves, a touch of lemon and a delicate sweetness. Finish: Intense and long, More from Rynbende Perfect Serve Perfect to sip neat, Rynbende Vintage Genever is also great in cocktails. Inspired by the 'Dark n Stormy' but with genever instead or rum, how about a Stormy at Sea. Flll a glass with ice and squeeze in the juice of half a lime. Add 100ml ginger beer and pour 50ml Rynbende Vintage Genever over the back of a spoon so you get a nice layer on the top. Add a wedge of lime and enjoy. FAQ's What is the difference between genever and gin? Genever is only ever made from grains like rye, malted barley and corn, whereas Gin can be distilled from anything, including grains, grapes and even potatoes. Genever is often described as a cross between gin and whiskey and appeals to drinkers of both spirits. Where is Rynbende Vintage Genever made? It is distilled using traditional methods in Schiedam, known as the Jenever capital of The Netherlands. How should Rynbende Vintage Genever be served? Neat, on the rocks, or in a cocktail. It tastes great with ginger beer and works well in a variation of a Dark n Stormy cocktail.  What food works well with Rynbende Vintage Genever? Perfect when paired with seafood, whether it's a seafood banquet, tuna sushi, a salmon and cream cheese baguette or spicy mussels.

Gin 1689 Dutch Dry Gin (Mini) 5cl

Gin 1689 Dutch Dry Gin (Mini) 5cl

Gin 1689 This gin is based on an original recipe (from 1689.... hence the name!), by the Dutch William of Orange after he was proclaimed King of England, Ireland and Scotland in 1689. Through painstaking research in the Royal British Library's rare book section, this recipe came to light after being found in the rare books archive. The recipe detailed the original ingredients, but unfortunately the quantities were concealed by code, which to date has not been broken! Not to be deterred, the rights of the recipe were acquired, and a perfect partner found to recreate the delicate flavours of the original gin: Herman Jansen. One of the Netherlands finest distillers, the distillery was founded in 1777 and based in the Dutch Gin & Genever capital Schiedam. Through trial and error, today's recipe was perfected and finalised. The original ingredients from 350 years ago are used, with Gin 1689 beautifully combining juniper with dried quince and pippin (an ancient apple variety), lemon and orange peel, nutmeg, aniseed and clove. It's quite fruity on the nose, but not surprising when you see the recipe. Juniper is present, but takes more of a background role, with a sweet spiciness, and a touch of citrus being much more pronounced. As with all gins, the taste differs when drinking straight (neat, over ice), or with a tonic. When tried neat, the juniper comes forward in the taste with a pleasant tanginess (coming from the quince and apple). Citrus notes are present, but more round the gin off than being too prevalent. When tried with tonic, this really comes alive as the carbonation (bubbles), lift the botanicals allowing more to shine. The citrus is more noticeable when drunk this way. Coming in a brilliant blue bottle, with regal gold lettering befitting its Royal background, the overall result is definitely fit for a King! Read more about Gin 1689 Perfect Serve Try sipping this gin neat over ice to really appreciate the recipe, and time taken to bring this gin back to life. If enjoying as a G&T we recommend Fever-Tree Premium Indian Tonic Water. 50ml of gin to 150ml of tonic is a good ratio to work with, but feel free to adjust to your taste. Garnish with a slice of orange and a few juniper berries.
