Raiden Legacy is a compilation of four classic top-down shooter titles. In addition to the ancestor of the entire series - the Raiden game - the package includes three spin-offs of this cult shooter. The DotEmu studio, specializing in re-releases of the classics, undertook the trouble of collecting and recalling these four titles. Originally released in 1990 on coin-up machines, Raiden was, next to Raptor: Call of the Shadows, the second most popular 2D vertical scrolling shooter - especially among PC players who could not choose from in this type of productions. The game offered a simple mechanic, consisting in eliminating the appearances in the so-called waves of successive groups of opponents. We sat at the controls of a fighter, initially equipped with basic doomsday tools such as a rapid-fire rifle and a bomb launcher. During the game, our ship could be upgraded and armed with an increasingly effective arsenal of weapons for bonuses collected during the game. In addition to the first installment of the series, the package also includes three spin-offs of the series released in 1996-98: Raiden Fighters, Raiden Fighter 2 and Raiden Fighters Jet. All games, created by the author of the original Seibu Kaihatsu, offer a similar gameplay pattern. Apart from a slight graphic facelift, more varied levels and a few changes to the game mechanics, we are still dealing with classic, two-dimensional top-down shooters. Raiden Legacy, in addition to improved graphics, offers new game modes. In addition to the classic arcade, in which we could compete on one screen alone or in cooperation with a friend, we get a mission mode and a training mode. Players can choose between medium and high difficulty. We also have the option of disabling the auto-firing system and fully manual operation of the guns our fighter is equipped with. Noteworthy are the refreshed soundtracks from Raiden Fighters, Raiden Fighters 2 and Raiden Fighters Jet. Double Dragon Trilogy is a compilation of the first three installments of the cult series of action games, included in the classics of the so-called "Walking" fights. The series was launched in 1987 on showroom vending machines, and its subsequent editions saw the light of day in 1988 and 1990. DotEmu, specializing in re-releases of classic hits, is responsible for refreshing these more than a quarter-century-old titles. Created for fun in co-op mode, the Double Dragon series tells the story of two brothers: Billy and Jimmy Lee - the masters of Sou-Setsu-Ken, who run a small school of eastern martial arts in post-apocalyptic New York. In the first part of the game, the brothers set out to help Billy's girlfriend, Marian, kidnapped by the Black Warriors gang. The second part tells about the brothers' revenge for Marian's death and the search for a way to restore her life. In the third installment of the series, our heroes travel the world in search of the mythical Rosetta stones, which are to stop the ancient evil lurking in Egypt. Gameplay All parts of the series are characterized by similar gameplay mechanics. Moving constantly to the right side of the screen, we eliminate successive waves of enemies, using quite a large set of punches and kicks (including "knee" and "head" hits) and not entirely legal weapons. The game takes place in two modes: Arcade - our main goal is to obtain the highest possible score - and Story, where as the game progresses, we unlock new arenas and achievements. Double Dragon Trilogy returns in a slightly tweaked frame with the use of the latest filters, although the authors also left the option of turning on the original graphics for traditionalists. Unlike the original, we can choose one of three difficulty levels: easy, original and expert. We can also decide whether the game is to be accompanied by a remastered or original 8-bit soundtrack. The possibility of changing the control model and cooperation with typical game controllers was also taken care of. We can take part in the game alone or in cooperation mode.
