New York City has the largest medical examiner’s office in the United States and the Brooklyn division is the busiest of the five boroughs. Charles A. Catanese received his Forensic Pathology fellowship training in New York and then worked full time as a Medical Examiner in the Brooklyn office for more than 10 years. He has personally performed more than 4000 autopsies including over 400 homicides. Drawing on his wealth of knowledge and experience in solving some of the most difficult cases a forensic examiner could encounter he assembles hundreds of images from his own work experience to present the Color Atlas of Forensic Medicine and Pathology. Featuring twice the number of images as any other forensic pathology atlas the book is filled with high-resolution photos that demonstrate postmortem changes of the human body and the different types of patterns produced in deaths caused by: Natural causes Diagnostic or therapeutic procedures Substance abuse Poisoning Child abuse Firearms Blunt instruments Sharp instruments Burns Asphyxia This easy-to-read atlas created for medical and non-medical personnel covers basic and advanced forensic concepts that relate to all manners of deaths. Human and Nonhuman Bone Identification A Color Atlas

Human and Nonhuman Bone Identification A Color Atlas

When a bone of unknown origin is found at a location forensic implications arise immediately. Is this bone human and if so is it evidence of a murder? Human and Non-Human Bone Identification: A Color Atlas presents a comprehensive handbook of photographs and other information essential for law enforcement and forensic anthropologists when examining skeletal remains and determining species and body parts. Presenting over 3000 color photographs this atlas is a practical comparative guide to the differences among species for nearly all bones in the body. Useful in either the laboratory or the field it features images of the types of bones that are most commonly discovered and provides annotations pointing out salient features. The book begins with a section on general osteology and explains the major anatomical differences between humans and other animals. It compares human and non-human bones categorized by type of bone and includes most of the major bones in humans and non-humans. The third section discusses non-human skeletal elements categorized by species and explores numerous skeletal elements within those species. This book is also available on a fully searchable DVD: Catalog no. 62964Includes Bones from the Following Species! Photographic and Descriptive Musculoskeletal Atlas of Orangutans with notes on the attachments variations innervations function and synon

Orangutans together with chimpanzees and gorillas are our closest living relatives. Photographic and Descriptive Musculoskeletal Atlas of Orangutans the first photographic and descriptive musculoskeletal atlas of the genus Pongo adopts the same format as the photographic atlases of Gorilla Pan and Hylobates previously published by the same authors. These four books are part of a series of monographs that will set out the comparative and phylogenetic context of the gross anatomy and evolutionary history of the soft tissue morphology of modern humans and their closest relatives. The present atlas which includes detailed high-quality photographs of musculoskeletal structures from most anatomical regions of the body as well as textual information about the attachments innervation function and weight of the respective muscles is based on dissections of five orangutans and on an extensive review of the literature. It provides an updated review of the anatomical variations within orangutans as well as an extensive list of the synonyms used in the literature to designate the structures we discuss. It will be of interest to students teachers and researchers studying primatology comparative anatomy functional morphology zoology and physical anthropology and to medical students doctors and researchers who are curious about the origin evolution homology and variations of the musculoskeletal structures of modern humans. | Photographic and Descriptive Musculoskeletal Atlas of Orangutans with notes on the attachments variations innervations function and synon

Essentials of Forensic Imaging A Text-Atlas

Essentials of Forensic Imaging A Text-Atlas

Forensic imaging with multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) and other cross-sectional imaging modalities is a rapidly evolving field. Understanding the pathological basis of disease and death is fundamental to the interpretation of radiologic images. Forming a bridge between these distinct disciplines Essentials of Forensic Imaging: A Text-Atlas brings the long tradition of radiologic pathologic correlation to forensic radiology and autopsy. Providing readers with a technical and interpretive foundation for applying modern cross-sectional imaging to forensic autopsy the book integrates more than 300 color autopsy photographs with postmortem MDCT and radiography in a topical format. Organized by cause of death the rich pictorial display of case material that accompanies the text establishes a contextual understanding. Readers can learn the diagnostic value of imaging applied to forensic autopsy by correlating specific causes of death with their respective forensic and radiologic principles. Causes of death covered in this practical volume include:Gunshot woundsBlunt force injuryFire and burn injuryBlast injuryDrowning and other deaths in waterSuicideNatural causesAsphyxiaElectrocutionAs forensic imaging becomes more advanced the possibilities for its use in autopsy continue to grow as do the opportunities for application in related areas. In the final chapter these expert authors also discuss the use of MDCT in the assessment of medical intervention exhumation and second autopsy and anthropology. | Essentials of Forensic Imaging A Text-Atlas
