Modeling and Stability Analysis of Inverter-Based Resources

Modeling and Stability Analysis of Inverter-Based Resources

Renewable energy sources interface with the ac grids via inverters are termed inverter-based resources (IBRs). They are replacing traditional fossil fuel-based synchronous generators at a dazzling speed. In turn unprecedented dynamic events have occurred threatening power grid reliability. Modeling and Stability Analysis of Inverter-Based Resources provides a fundamental understanding of IBR dynamics. Developing reliability solutions requires a thorough understanding of challenges and in this case IBR-associated dynamics. Modeling and stability analysis play an indispensable role in revealing a mechanism of dynamics. This book covers the essential techniques of dynamic model building for IBRs including type-3 wind farms type-4 wind farms and solar photovoltaics. Besides modeling this book offers readers the techniques of stability analysis. The text includes three parts. Part 1 concentrates on tools including electromagnetic transient simulation analysis and measurement-based modeling. Part 2 focuses on IBR modeling and analysis details. Part 3 highlights generalized dynamic circuit representation—a unified modeling framework for dynamic and harmonic analysis. This topic of IBR dynamic modeling and stability analysis is interesting challenging and intriguing. The authors have led the effort of publishing the 2020 IEEE Power and Energy Society’s TR-80 taskforce report “Wind Energy Systems Subsynchronous Oscillations: Modeling and Events and the two taskforce papers on investigation of real-world IBR dynamic events. In this book the authors share with readers many insights into modeling and analysis for real-world IBR dynamic events investigation.

Beneficial Insects

Beneficial Insects

Highly Recommended in CHOICE Jan 2020 Vol 57 5 Insects are key components of life on our planet and their presence is essential for maintaining balanced terrestrial ecosystems. Without insects humans would struggle to survive and on a world scale food production would be severely compromised. Many plants and animals depend directly or indirectly on insects for their very survival and this is particularly so in the case of insectivorous birds and other such creatures. The beneficial role of insects is often overlooked or misunderstood and in farming circles their very presence on crops is often seen to be unwelcome. In reality however many insects are genuinely beneficial as in the case of parasitic and predacious species. The use of chemical pesticides to control crop pests is becoming more tightly regulated and environmentally undesirable and low-input farming in which natural enemies of pests are encouraged to survive or increase is becoming far more prevalent. Accordingly Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and Integrated Crop Management (ICM) strategies are increasingly being developed advocated and adopted. Features:Highlights information on many groups of insects and mites that act as natural enemies or biological control agents of phytophagous insects and mites including plant pests. Profusely illustrated with high-quality colour photographs. Focuses mainly on insects and mites as natural enemies of plant pests including parasitic and predacious species that have been accidentally or deliberately introduced in classical biological control programmes. Reviews the role of phytophagous European insects and mites in controlling or managing European plants that have become invasive weeds in other parts of the world notably North America Australia and New Zealand. | Beneficial Insects

Stuxnet to Sunburst 20 Years of Digital Exploitation and Cyber Warfare

Stuxnet to Sunburst 20 Years of Digital Exploitation and Cyber Warfare

Stuxnet to Sunburst: 20 Years of Digital Exploitation and Cyberwarfare takes the reader on a journey from the terrorist attacks of 9/11 onwards and the massive insatiable appetite focus and investment by the Five Eyes agencies in particular the U. S. to build the capability of digital eavesdropping and industrial espionage. With tens of trillions of dollars moving throughout hundreds of thousands of staff and many contractors draining the country of intelligence and technical capability the quest was simple and the outcome horrifying. No one in the world has connected the dots until now. From digital eavesdropping and manipulation of the agencies to Stuxnet this book covers how the world's first use of digital code and digital certificates for offensive purposes against the Iranians and their nuclear power facilities caused collateral damage. Proceeding to today's SolarWinds attack code-named Sunburst the same methods of exploitation and manipulation originally used by the agencies are now being used against companies and governments with devastating effects. The SolarWinds breach has caused knock-on breaches to thousands of client companies including the U. S. government and is estimated to cost more than one trillion dollars. The monster has truly been turned against its creator and due to the lack of security and defence breaches are occurring daily at an alarming rate. The U. S. and UK governments have little to no answer. The book also contains a chapter on breaches within the COVID-19 sector from research to immunisation and the devastating December 2020 breach of SolarWinds. | Stuxnet to Sunburst 20 Years of Digital Exploitation and Cyber Warfare
