Practical Cold Case Homicide Investigations Procedural Manual

Practical Cold Case Homicide Investigations Procedural Manual

Designed for use by investigators in any agency large or small Practical Cold Case Homicide Investigations Procedural Manual provides an overview of the means and methods by which previously reported and investigated yet unresolved homicides might be solved. Written by an experienced cold case investigator and consultant this convenient handbook is drawn from the author‘s previous work Cold Case Homicides: Practical Investigative Techniques and follows the successful format of Vernon Geberth‘s Practical Homicide Investigation: Checklist and Field Guide. The book examines the basics of case identification and reactivation providing insight into file retrieval and review. It discusses the legal aspects of cold case investigation and prosecution and explores how to take advantage of technology and forensics advances developed since the case went cold including forensic and people-searching databases. Readers will learn how techniques used in current homicide investigations have an expanded role in cold case investigations. The convenient format features a summary and checklist template and includes simple step-by-step instructions. While cold cases are frustrating for investigators and victims families this book shows how modern cold case homicide investigation can best exploit the primary solvability factors of changes in technology and changes in relationships turning the concept of time as an enemy into time as a friend.

Understanding GIS through Sustainable Development Goals Case Studies with QGIS

Understanding GIS through Sustainable Development Goals applies a pedagogical shift to learning GIS as the readers employ the concepts and methodologies on real-world problems. This book provides 16 case studies across most of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with step-by-step practical instructions using QGIS(Quantum Geographic Information System) an open-source software. It helps readers develop GIS skills on real-world data while learning the fundamentals including spatial data models projections and spatial databases different cartographic methods such as graduated symbology change maps and dynamic visualization as well as more intermediate and advanced spatial analysis such as geoprocessing multiple criteria analysis and spatial statistics. The topics chosen are taught in secondary and tertiary education institutions which make this a textbook for all students and educators. Features: Focuses on learning GIS through 16 real world case studies. Introduces an open-source software that can be used beyond the classroom. Analyzes Sustainable Development Goals in a global framework and provides an alternative approach to learning GIS. Supports both secondary and tertiary educators and improves GIS education at all levels. Contains a holistic range of case studies that extend across several disciplines from geography education environmental sciences geosciences natural sciences social sciences and digital humanities. Clinical Pediatric Surgery A Case-Based Interactive Approach

Clinical Pediatric Surgery A Case-Based Interactive Approach

Written in a unique and innovative style this book presents pediatric surgery in an interactive clinical context. Each chapter is built upon a specific disease or group of diseases beginning with a typical case presented interactively just as it would be in encountered in clinical practice. These are actual cases that have been encountered by the author and are likely to be managed on any pediatric surgical service. The discussion that follows presents the most relevant issues pertaining to the topic drawing on the index case as well as multiple other cases that depict the entire spectrum of the disease or anomaly. The carefully selected suggested readings emphasize sentinel papers high-quality reviews and the best and most recent evidence published on the subject. A large number of illustrations help bring the clinical concepts to light. A number of high-quality videos provide a dynamic atlas of common procedures. The book is useful to the entire range of pediatric surgical trainees and practitioners from the medical student or resident rotating on pediatric surgery to the fellow preparing for certification to the seasoned surgeon looking for an update on a particular subject or preparing for recertification. A large number of other physicians will find this book very useful including general surgeons who evaluate and treat childhood surgical diseases paediatricians and pediatric hospitalists who co-manage patients with surgeons and obstetricians pathologists and radiologists who work closely with pediatric surgeons. Key Features Provides a hands-on guide to the management of typical clinical scenarios for all pediatric surgery trainees and other professionals involved in the care of childhood surgical disease Presents more than 300 cases covering the whole spectrum of pediatric surgery illustrated in full-color and with an accompanying e-book Allows the reader to apply their knowledge to real-life situations and assess their level of expertise by the use of a case-based Q&A format | Clinical Pediatric Surgery A Case-Based Interactive Approach

Modelling Approaches to Understand Salinity Variations in a Highly Dynamic Tidal River The Case of the Shatt al-Arab River

Modelling Approaches to Understand Salinity Variations in a Highly Dynamic Tidal River The Case of the Shatt al-Arab River

This book reports the first systematic monitoring and modelling study on water availability water quality and seawater intrusion of the Shatt al-Arab River (SAR) on the border of Iraq and Iran where causes and concentration levels of salinity have not yet been fully understood let alone addressed leading to conflicting perceptions of its origin (external or internal) the natural conditions and the practices that can explain the current critical conditions. Current scientific knowledge on the SAR salinity problem is deficient partially due to the complex and dynamic interaction between marine and terrestrial salinity sources including return flows by water users of the different water sectors in the Euphrates and Tigris rivers upstream of the SAR. The development of a new series of monitoring stations and various modelling approaches helped to better understand the interactions between these different sources. The comprehensive and detailed dataset formed the basis for a validated analytical model that can predict the extent of seawater relative to other salinity sources in an estuary and for a hydrodynamic model that can predict salinity changes. The adaptability of the models to changing conditions makes them directly applicable by water managers. The procedure can be applied to other comparable systems. | Modelling Approaches to Understand Salinity Variations in a Highly Dynamic Tidal River The Case of the Shatt al-Arab River

Operations Research Using Excel A Case Study Approach

Operations Research Using Excel A Case Study Approach

The field of operations research provides a scientific approach to managerial decision making. In a contemporary hypercompetitive ever-changing business world a manager needs quantitative and factual ways of solving problems related to optimal allocation of resources profit/loss maximization/minimization etc. In this endeavor the subject of doing research on how to manage and make operations efficient is termed as Operations Research. The reference text provides conceptual and analytical knowledge for various operations research techniques. Readers especially students of this subject are skeptic in dealing with the subject because of its emphasis on mathematics. However this book has tried to remove such doubts by focusing on the application part of OR techniques with minimal usage of mathematics. The attempt was to make students comfortable with some complicated topics of the subject. It covers important concepts including sensitivity analysis duality theory transportation solution method Hungarian algorithm program evaluation and review technique and periodic review system. Aimed at senior undergraduate and graduate students in the fields of mechanical engineering civil engineering industrial engineering and production engineering this book: • Discusses extensive use of Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and formulas in solving operations research problems• Provides case studies and unsolved exercises at the end of each chapter• Covers industrial applications of various operations research techniques in a comprehensive manner• Discusses creating spreadsheets and using different Excel formulas in an easy-to-understand manner• Covers problem-solving procedures for techniques including linear programming transportation model and game theory | Operations Research Using Excel A Case Study Approach
