Processes of Formation of Micro -and Nanodispersed Systems

Processes of Formation of Micro -and Nanodispersed Systems

Processes of Formation of Micro- and Nanodispersed Systems is a comprehensive analysis and presentation of the physical processes and phenomena that lead to the formation of disperse materials. It also details the properties of disperse materials yielded from various processes. Special attention is given to the homogeneous condensation of metal vapours from expanding metal vapours in a vacuum as well as heterogeneous condensation of metal vapours on solid substrates in the presence of impurities during the formation of disperse condensates. The book also examines flow in thin films the decay of thin films and phenomena accompanying the coalescence of disperse particles. Using currently available data this book compares different methods of producing disperse materials in terms of scale. It also describes several applications of the experimental results it presents including:Production of composites of nanodisperse metals in an organic matrixProduction of metallic powdersThe potential to produce metallic powders on an industrial scale with the creation of a special plantFine cleaning of gases contaminated with micro- and nanoparticles including aerosols such as spray paintCovering and expanding applications of key processes concerning metal vapours Processes of Formation of Micro- and Nanodispersed Systems is highly valuable to researchers of semiconductors. It provides a single source of detailed and practical information on the processes and phenomena related to the formation of disperse materials. It represents the current state of research and practice in micro- and nanodispersed systems while highlighting paths to advancement in the field. | Processes of Formation of Micro -and Nanodispersed Systems

Echoes of War The Story of H2S Radar

Echoes of War The Story of H2S Radar

August 1939 was a time of great flux. The fear of impending war fueled by the aggression of Nazi Germany forced many changes. Young people pursuing academic research were plunged into an entirely different kind of research and development. For Bernard Lovell the war meant involvement in one of the most vital research projects of the war-radar. Echoes of War: The Story of H2S Radar presents a passionate first-hand account of the development of the Home Sweet Home (H2S) radar systems during World War II. The book provides numerous personal insights into the scientific culture of wartime Britain and details the many personal sacrifices setbacks and eventual triumphs made by those actively involved. Bernard Lovell began his work on airborne interception radar in Taffy Bowen's airborne radar group. He was involved in the initial development of the application of the 10 centimeter cavity magnetron to airborne radar that revolutionized radar systems. In the autumn of 1941 the failure of Bomber Command to locate its target over the cloudy skies of Europe prompted the formation of a new group to develop a blind bombing system. Led by Lovell this group developed the H2S radar system to identify towns and other targets at night or during heavy cloud cover. H2S first saw operational use with the Pathfinder Squadrons in the attack on Hamburg during the night of January 30-31 1943. Two months later modified H2S units installed in Coastal Command aircraft operating over the Bay of Biscay had a dramatic tactical effect on the air war against U-boats. The tide had begun to turn. In this fascinating chronicle of the H2S radar project Sir Bernard Lovell recreates the feel and mood of the wartime years. | Echoes of War The Story of H2S Radar

American Insects A Handbook of the Insects of America North of Mexico Second Edition

American Insects A Handbook of the Insects of America North of Mexico Second Edition

Offering a complete accounting of the insects of North America this handbook is an up-dated edition of the first handbook ever compiled in the history of American entomology. By using American Insects A Handbook of the Insects of America North of Mexico Second Edition readers can quickly determine the taxonomic position of any species genus or higher taxon of insect known to occur in America and Canada. Every order family and genus is conveniently numbered and indexed making this volume the only complete single source for all of the names of orders families and genera currently available. This book fills the need for an accurate way to identify with the several hundred drawings and photos the common insects of all orders. Now there is a tool available to those working without a major collection and library; and those who would like to have a general knowledge of insect life without becoming overwhelmed by the vast number of minute insect species. This usable guide provides sizes shapes color patterns and salient features of some species of each major family by pointing out those groups most likely to be encountered including all North America pests. What's New in this Edition? Researchers in many orders use the results of cladistics a new tool for determining the relationship of orders families genera and species of organisms including plants as well as animals Specialists have provided lengthy lists of generic changes Many of the identification keys have been revised by adding more illustrations and making sure all description terms are in the Glossary The bibliographies of each Order section have been updated to include all important works that have appeared since the original edition

Handbook of Photomedicine

Handbook of Photomedicine

Providing the most comprehensive up-to-date coverage of this exciting biomedical field Handbook of Photomedicine gathers together a large team of international experts to give you a complete account of the application of light in healthcare and medical science. The book progresses logically from the history and fundamentals of photomedicine to diverse therapeutic applications of light known collectively as phototherapies. It facilitates your understanding of human diseases caused by light the rationale for photoprotection and major applications of phototherapy in clinical practice. The handbook begins with a series of historical vignettes of pioneers from the last two centuries. It also presents the fundamentals of physics and biology as applied to photomedicine. It next examines conditions and diseases caused by light including skin cancer dermatoses and immunosuppression. The remainder of the book focuses on the most important clinical therapeutic applications of different kinds of light that vary in both wavelength and intensity. The book discusses ultraviolet phototherapy for skin diseases and infections and presents the basic science of photodynamic therapy and its use in cancer therapy and other medical specialties. It then covers mechanistic studies and clinical applications of low-level laser (light) therapy as well as the use of high power or surgical laser therapy in specialties such as dentistry and dermatology. The book concludes with a collection of miscellaneous types of phototherapy.
