Banach Limit and Applications

Banach Limit and Applications

Banach Limit and Applications provides all the results in the area of Banach Limit its extensions generalizations and applications to various fields in one go (as far as possible). All the results in this field after Banach introduced this concept in 1932 were scattered till now. Sublinear functionals generating and dominating Banach Limit unique Banach Limit (almost convergence) invariant means and invariant limits absolute and strong almost convergence applications to ergodicity law of large numbers Fourier series uniform distribution of sequences uniform density core theorems and functional Banach limits are discussed in this book. The discovery of functional analysis such as the Hahn-Banach Theorem and the Banach-Steinhaus Theorem helped the researchers to develop a modern rich and unified theory of sequence spaces by encompassing classical summability theory via matrix transformations and the topics related to sequence spaces which arose from the concept of Banach limits all of which are presented in this book. The unique features of this book are as follows: All the results in this area which were scattered till now are in one place. The book is the first of its kind in the sense that there is no other competitive book. The contents of this monograph did not appear in any book form before. The audience of this book are the researchers in this area and Ph. D. and advanced master’s students. The book is suitable for one- or two-semester course work for Ph. D. students M. S. students in North America and Europe and M. Phil. and master’s students in India.

Differential Geometry of Curves and Surfaces

Differential Geometry of Curves and Surfaces

Through two previous editions the third edition of this popular and intriguing text takes both an analytical/theoretical approach and a visual/intuitive approach to the local and global properties of curves and surfaces. Requiring only multivariable calculus and linear algebra it develops students’ geometric intuition through interactive graphics applets. Applets are presented in Maple workbook format which readers can access using the free Maple Player. The book explains the reasons for various definitions while the interactive applets offer motivation for definitions allowing students to explore examples further and give a visual explanation of complicated theorems. The ability to change parametric curves and parametrized surfaces in an applet lets students probe the concepts far beyond what static text permits. Investigative project ideas promote student research. At users of the previous editions' request this third edition offers a broader list of exercises. More elementary exercises are added and some challenging problems are moved later in exercise sets to assure more graduated progress. The authors also add hints to motivate students grappling with the more difficult exercises. This student-friendly and readable approach offers additional examples well-placed to assist student comprehension. In the presentation of the Gauss-Bonnet Theorem the authors provide more intuition and stepping-stones to help students grasp phenomena behind it. Also the concept of a homeomorphism is new to students even though it is a key theoretical component of the definition of a regular surface. Providing more examples show students how to prove certain functions are homeomorphisms. | Differential Geometry of Curves and Surfaces

Grothendieck Construction of Bipermutative-Indexed Categories

Grothendieck Construction of Bipermutative-Indexed Categories

The Grothendieck construction provides an explicit link between indexed categories and opfibrations. It is a fundamental concept in category theory and related fields with far-reaching applications. Bipermutative categories are categorifications of rings. They play a central role in algebraic K-theory and infinite loop space theory. This monograph is a detailed study of the Grothendieck construction over a bipermutative category in the context of categorically enriched multicategories with new and important applications to inverse K-theory and pseudo symmetric E∞-algebras. After carefully recalling preliminaries in enriched categories bipermutative categories and enriched multicategories we show that the Grothendieck construction over a small tight bipermutative category is a pseudo symmetric Cat-multifunctor and generally not a Cat-multifunctor in the symmetric sense. Pseudo symmetry of Cat-multifunctors is a new concept we introduce in this work. The following features make it accessible as a graduate text or reference for experts: Complete definitions and proofs Self-contained background. Parts of Chapters 1–3 7 9 and 10 contain background material from the research literature Extensive cross-references Connections between chapters. Each chapter has its own introduction discussing not only the topics of that chapter but also its connection with other chapters Open questions. Appendix A contains open questions that arise from the material in the text and are suitable for graduate students This book is suitable for graduate students and researchers with an interest in category theory algebraic K-theory homotopy theory and related fields. The presentation is thorough and self-contained with complete details and background material for non-expert readers. | Grothendieck Construction of Bipermutative-Indexed Categories

Questioning the Universe Concepts in Physics

Questioning the Universe Concepts in Physics

WINNER 2009 CHOICE AWARD OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC TITLE! The typical introduction to physics leaves readers with the impression that physics is about 30 different unconnected topics such as motion forces gravity electricity light heat energy and atoms. More often than not these readers are left to conclude that physics is mostly about boring lifeless numbers. Questioning the Universe: Concepts in Physics offers the nonscientist an alternative view: one that demonstrates how physics is perpetually evolving and shows how so many seemingly diverse concepts are intimately connected. In fact one could argue that the most important ideas in modern physics are all about unification and that these ideas are as fascinating as they are elegant. Physicists today believe that Mother Nature is remarkably efficient and requires only a relatively small number of laws to keep her universe in working order. We may not yet know all of these laws; but at the center of physics is a faith that she is indeed understandableand that someday we will see her full beauty. The purpose of this book is to tell readers the story of what we have learned about nature so far and how we have done it. Written to arouse curiosity this compelling and readable work: Delves into the most basic laws regarding motion and energy waves and particles Introduces modern theories including relativity quantum mechanics and particle physics Describes the key role played by that elemental building block the atom Discusses the evolution of the universe including the formation of stars and the mystery of dark matter and dark energy This book is not for those doing physics but is aimed at those who simply want to learn about physics so it requires only the most minimal math. Foundations of Reinforcement Learning with Applications in Finance

Foundations of Reinforcement Learning with Applications in Finance

Foundations of Reinforcement Learning with Applications in Finance aims to demystify Reinforcement Learning and to make it a practically useful tool for those studying and working in applied areas — especially finance. Reinforcement Learning is emerging as a powerful technique for solving a variety of complex problems across industries that involve Sequential Optimal Decisioning under Uncertainty. Its penetration in high-profile problems like self-driving cars robotics and strategy games points to a future where Reinforcement Learning algorithms will have decisioning abilities far superior to humans. But when it comes getting educated in this area there seems to be a reluctance to jump right in because Reinforcement Learning appears to have acquired a reputation for being mysterious and technically challenging. This book strives to impart a lucid and insightful understanding of the topic by emphasizing the foundational mathematics and implementing models and algorithms in well-designed Python code along with robust coverage of several financial trading problems that can be solved with Reinforcement Learning. This book has been created after years of iterative experimentation on the pedagogy of these topics while being taught to university students as well as industry practitioners. Features Focus on the foundational theory underpinning Reinforcement Learning and software design of the corresponding models and algorithms Suitable as a primary text for courses in Reinforcement Learning but also as supplementary reading for applied/financial mathematics programming and other related courses Suitable for a professional audience of quantitative analysts or data scientists Blends theory/mathematics programming/algorithms and real-world financial nuances while always striving to maintain simplicity and to build intuitive understanding To access the code base for this book please go to: https://github. com/TikhonJelvis/RL-book
