Galactic Civilizations III is the third installment in a series of cosmic strategies belonging to the 4X sub-genre. The producer of the title is the American studio Stardock. The series was born in 2003 as a remake of the game of the same title, released in the mid-90s on Mac computers. Both previous parts of the series received a number of additions and were warmly received by fans of the genre.
The action of the title takes place a few years after the events presented in the addition to Galactic Civilizations II entitled Twilight of the Arnor. Thanks to this, the creators could introduce completely new races, factions and technologies to the game. However, we are still dealing with an extensive turn-based cosmic strategy that allows you to create a vast galactic empire from scratch, which, depending on the style of play, may owe its development to aggressive conquests or diplomacy and trade. The most significant change compared to the previous parts is the division of boards into hexes, which allows the use of completely new strategies. Black holes and mysterious relics scattered around the map also affect the pace of the game. The ship design system has undergone a complete overhaul. The players were given decisions on virtually all details related to the construction of the fleet. The same is true of resource management and diplomacy.
Galactic Civilizations III is a significant step forward for the series in terms of technology: much larger maps have been used, and the graphics now offer a huge number of details and special effects.
