Shantae and the Pirate's Curse is a two-dimensional platform game released on the PC, 3DS etc. platform , which is the third installment in the series developed since 2002 by the California studio WayForward.
Story
The action takes place after the events of Shantae: Risky's Revenge , but knowledge of this game is not necessary to understand the plot. While playing, we again play the role of the title character of a woman-genie. After fighting with the embodiment of her own powers, she lost all magical abilities and slowly gets used to life as a mere mortal. One day, however, her former rival, the pirate Risky Boots, finds her, informing Shantae that the Sequin land has fallen victim to a powerful curse to prepare the ground for the return of the Master Corsairs. This monster allegedly absorbed the power of all the genies and, if not stopped, it will undoubtedly lead to the destruction of the world. The heroine, although deprived of her supernatural abilities, decides to help Risky Boots in thwarting the villain's evil plans.
Gameplay
Shantae and the Pirate's Curse is a classic 2D platformer in which we explore large-sized maps, collect items, avoid traps and fight various enemies. Compared to the previous parts of the cycle, the game offers much larger and more non-linear levels , and the map helps us navigate through them. Since our heroine no longer has the magic powers known from the previous installments of the series, she has to look for various pirate gadgets, such as pistols, sabers and cannons. Interestingly, we do not use the collected items only in combat, and so, for example, the gun can also be used to switch distant levers. In addition, as the game progresses, this equipment can be further improved, thus increasing its effectiveness.
