An overlocker works differently than a sewing machine. Overlocked seams are stretchier. While an overlocker sews with one or two needles and two loopers, a sewing machine sews with an upper thread and a lower thread that lock together between the fabric layers. In overlock stitching, two threads wrap around the edge of the fabric. Essentially, overlock stitching creates a seam and binds edges at the same time. It's a composite fabric that is smooth, dense, soft, warm, and hard to crease. It's also known by the name "Ponte de Roma".A bit of practicalityThis fabric consists of 70% viscose, 27% polyester, and 3% elastane. You choose the length you need for your sewing project – the width is 145 cm. Please note that the fabric shrinks by 13% when washed. When working with jersey, we recommend using a jersey needle, characterised by having a medium point – also known as ball point. This 100% polyester micro satin stands out for its beautiful, extra soft and natural drape, perfect for those who sew satin tops and dresses and want to utilise the soft drape in their designs. The satin has the familiar glossy front and matt back and is available in many colour nuances. Satin for your next creative ideaMicro Satin is suitable for both clothes and bags. Maybe you want to sew a simple and elegant party dress or create beautiful draping with a cool matching clutch? The only limit is your imagination. The fabric is 145 cm wide and shrinks about 3% in the wash. It can be washed at 40°, always hang dry and iron at low heat. TIP: Satin weaves are not very forgiving when it comes to needle marks. A good way to avoid damage is to start with a fresh needle, as a damaged needle is more likely to stick to the fabric and leave marks. Also, use extra fine pins in the seam allowance to minimise holes. Or are you in the process of designing your confirmation dress but need the perfect blank fabric to bring your design to life? Party satin - or duchess satin - is a great choice: Its bright colours and elegant drape give you plenty of options for creating festive dresses, shirts, tops, bow ties, vests and trouser suits.   And if you want it all to match, you can also sew a small clutch to go with it. A little more about this satinMade from 100% polyester, this satin has a nice drape and the classic satin look in a variety of colours. The fabric is 145 cm wide, has a weight of 150 grams and shrinks about 1% in the wash. You can machine wash it at 40° - remember that it should always be hang-dried and only ironed at low heat. TIP: Avoid water and water-based markers - they can leave small stains (same goes for hand cream!). Instead, use tailor's chalk to make markings. Always make a test on a small piece first, then draw on the back. And - while we're on the subject of water - never use steam on satin as it can leave water stains and the high temperature from the steam can change the lustre of the fabric. The special weave gives a nice glossy front, a more matte back and a nice shiny look! Our Savina satin is available in many beautiful colours! Find your favourites and order exactly the length you need. Beautiful designs in satinUse satin to create beautiful accessories for everyday and on special occasions. For example, sew a puffy bag or tote bag that you can use for everyday and on special festive occasions. You can also choose to use the shiny fabric as a lining in your project; it adds a beautiful finish. And then, of course, you can use satin for clothing - for example, a nice satin shirt, a pair of cool satin trousers or maybe a jumpsuit with a drawstring waist. The fabric has a width of 135 cm and shrinks about 3% in the wash. It can be washed at 30°, always hang dry and iron at low heat. TIP: Use good quality fleece and interfacing to stabilise smaller parts like collars and cuffs. We recommend ironing it on before cutting out the pattern pieces - and remember to iron without steam (water can leave small stains and the high temperatures from the steam can change the surface of the fabric!) The needle easily penetrates the knitted quality and prevents stitches and threads from running. For this type of jersey, we recommend jersey needles in size 70/80. Partially organic  Products with this label have an organic content of at least 25%. It could be, for example, fabrics with organic cotton mixed with other fibres. We've created this label so you can easily identify the proportion of organic content.
