Coates - Thin Willow Charcoal Sticks (25pc)

Coates - Thin Willow Charcoal Sticks (25pc)

25 sticks of thin willow charcoal Each stick measures approx. 2-3mm in diameter Ideal for fine, detailed drawing Made using the top of the willow rod where the wood is thinnest 100% natural and grown in the UK A box of 25 sticks of thin willow charcoal. These sticks measure approximately 2-3mm in diameter. They are ideal for fine, detailed drawing. This charcoal is made using the top of the willow rod where the wood is the thinnest. Please be aware that willow charcoal is a completely natural product made simply from the willow grown on a farm. Therefore the sizes of the charcoal sticks are approximate measurements, one end of the charcoal stick will differ in size to the other end. Look very carefully at a stick of willow charcoal and you will see the marks where the leaves have been removed from the willow stick and also the soft central pith at the core of the stick. About Coates Charcoal It was back in the 1960s that Percy Coate began experimenting with the willow he grew to make drawing charcoal. Although it took some years to perfect the technique, by the 1970s he was finally ready to share the new Coates Willow Charcoal with the world. Percy's grandfather, Robert Coate started in business in 1819 as a 'withy merchant', buying and selling local willow crops. Today Coates is still very much a family concern with members of the family involved in all aspects of the business.  For many years now Coates willow charcoal has been recognised as the best quality willow charcoal in the world. The willow plant used for making artist charcoal grows very quickly and takes only one growing season before it is ready for use. It takes 3 days to turn raw willow sticks into willow charcoal ready for the artist to use.
