Ginkgo Biloba (Maidenhair Tree) - Multi-Stem
Maidenhair Tree are a unique species of seed bearing tree with no close plant family relatives and form a link between conifers and the more primitive ferns. Maidenhair Trees resistance to disease and adverse conditions is legendary. Some Ginkgo trees are said to be over 1000 years old and a few Ginkgos even survived the atomic blast at Hiroshima! You can distinguish a Ginkgo from other gymnosperms by its fan shaped and bilobed leaves. Ginkgo trees are bright green in the summer but their leaves turn a magnificent golden yellow in the autumn months. Gingko trees can be male or female but you cannot tell the sex until they flower. Male gingko trees produce yellow catkins bearing wind-distributed pollen. Female flowers are inconspicuous and develop seeds that are plump and round and generally a pale yellow. Ginkgo leaves and seeds are highly prized in Chinese medicine for their healing properties. They are also used as health supplements in the western world. The plant is very hardy at H6 making it perfect for the UK climate. Plenty of natural sunlight is required for it to grow. It requires no pruning and is generally free of pests and diseases.
