Age of Empires II HD is a refreshed version of the cult real-time strategy game from 1999 - Age of Empires II: The Age of the Kings - and the expansion pack released a year later, Age of Empires II: The Conquerors.
Gameplay
The gameplay itself has not changed, the graphics have been improved, and the program itself has been adapted to run on the latest operating systems. The game owes its second youth to the Hidden Path Entertainment studio (Defense Grid series, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive). It was to this company that Microsoft entrusted the production of Age of Empires II HD, after Ensemble Studios - the fathers of the original two - were closed in 2009. Age of Empires II veterans know very well that the historical background of the game was the Middle Ages. Of course, it is no different in the HD version. The game includes all the campaigns and civilizations known from The Age of the Kings and The Conquerors.
Players choose one of 18 nations (including Vikings, Japanese, Byzantines, Mongols, Aztecs, and Koreans), which they will lead to development and domination over others. Individual nations differ from each other in terms of architecture, available technologies, as well as strengths and weaknesses. There are many paths to victory - military conquest, economic expansion, or the ascent and protection of a wonder of the world. The main tasks of the player is to gather troops, expand the city, develop various technologies and trade. The gameplay, including battles, is conducted in real time. The battles involve infantry, cavalry, siege engines and ships.
