Avorion is a sandbox space simulator in the style of the Elite series with the addition of a co-op mode. The production was created in the independent German studio Boxelware, but initially it was a project of one student at the Frederick and Alexander University in Erlangen and Nuremberg. Over the course of nearly nine years, the team has grown significantly and has benefited from Steam Greenlight support and a Kickstarter campaign to release Avorion in Early Access in 2017 . Story Avorion takes us into a distant future where numerous parties have been fighting for influence in space for centuries. A long time ago, a great cataclysm nearly tore the galaxy to shreds. As a result, its center became inaccessible to ships, and smaller anomalies made it impossible to travel on many of the existing routes.At the same time, the mysterious Xsotan race emerged as the only one capable of traveling through gaps in hyperspace. Rumors say that its representatives build their ships from avorion, the mysterious metal that appeared with their arrival. But no one has been able to reach their whereabouts in the center of the galaxy or make contact with them. The protagonist of the game hopes to change that, but first he must obtain the resources and influence needed to venture into the center that has been unexplored for centuries. Gameplay The gameplay in Avorion is based on a scheme known from the production of Elite: Dangerous and the X series . The main task is to reach the center of the galaxy, but the road to this goal is long. We start the game with a single mining drone, which we use to scour the nearby planets and asteroids in search of raw materials. These will allow you to create the first ship consisting of modules that can be scaled and combined in almost any way. These bricks require specific resources, which forces us to travel to more and more dangerous regions of the galaxy, and thus invest in new ships. The game gives us just as much freedom when it comes to choosing a career. We can focus on establishing trade relations to create our own corporation, trying to maintain peaceful relations with other inhabitants of the galaxy. However, nothing prevents us from sending our ships on plundering expeditions, raiding convoys with goods or dealing with smuggling. We can also focus on space exploration, which is full of various, often valuable secrets and information about the events from centuries ago. All this in order to obtain funds for a trip to the center of the galaxy and find out the truth about the great catastrophe.
