Hegemony III: Clash of the Ancients is a strategy game that is the third full-fledged installment in the series, launched in 2010 by Hegemony: Philip of Macedon . The independent Canadian studio Longbow Digital Arts has been responsible for the creation and development of the series from the very beginning. Unlike the previous parts of the series, focusing on the conquests of Philip of Macedon, the wars of ancient Greece and the reign of Julius Caesar, the action of Hegemony III takes us centuries earlier, to the times of the rise of Rome. It was then that the armies of the Greeks, Gallians, Romans and Etruscans fought fierce battles with each other for control of the Apennine Peninsula. In the game, we can recreate Rome's path to the rank of the most powerful ancient world power, or try to change the course of history, leading one of the other peoples to hegemony.
Gameplay
The gameplay remained faithful to the proven patterns of the series, combining elements of extensive grand strategy games and real-time tactical skirmishes with the option of an active pause. The player's tasks include the constant development of his own empire, expansion and command of armies, as well as the creation of a functional production network that allows him to feed his subjects and supply the fighting troops. The whole thing is shown on the strategic map shown on a macro scale, where the fighting troops are presented in the form of figures. At any time, however, we can move to any battlefield and take command of the units there. We then watch the action of the game in an effective, tactical 3D view.
