Lean Sustainability Creating Safe Enduring and Profitable Operations

Lean Sustainability Creating Safe Enduring and Profitable Operations

The Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance defines safety as the maintenance of peace of mind. Without peace of mind or the serenity brought about by a safe working environment employees will be unwilling and even unable to focus their energies on production improvement. Thus it can be said that all improvement begins with safety. Winner of a 2013 Shingo Research and Professional Publication Award! A how-to manual on the proper integration of safety and environmental sustainability with Lean implementations Lean Sustainability: Creating Safe Enduring and Profitable Operations provides a proven recipe for achieving safety and sustainability excellence. This book is the result of the author‘s two decades of experience implementing Lean; Safety Health and Environmental (SHE); and sustainability processes in the chemical food and consumer products industries. It unveils valuable lessons learned and little-known tips for eliminating waste and increasing process efficiency while reducing safety incidents and the overall impact on the environment. The text illustrates how to use the SHE Pillar as a gateway to continuous improvement regardless of the improvement methodology you use. Bolstered with proven methodologies and real-world advice it introduces novel approaches for achieving safety and sustainability excellence including: Autonomous Safety‘supplying employees with the knowledge skills and motivation to work safely Triple Zero the achievement of zero accidents zero environmental incidents and zero losses Green Value Stream Mapping the application of Value Stream Mapping to environmental and sustainability issues Although there are many books on Lean sustainability and SHE few explain how to integrate these dynamic tools. Resale Price Maintenance and the Law The Future of Vertical Restraints

Resale Price Maintenance and the Law The Future of Vertical Restraints

The question of how to properly enforce against RPM has been a contentious debate for decades on both sides of the Atlantic. The catalyst is the acceptance that RPM can generate both anti-competitive effects and pro-competitive efficiencies that need to be properly balanced to ensure against Type I/Type II errors and to create viable legislation. Part I focuses on 100 years of US origins and the current legal approach to VR enforcement which reveals the precedent responsible for the transition between per se illegality and the rule of reason thresholds at the federal level. Nine anti-competitive and 19 pro-competitive theoretical models are also introduced to clearly demonstrate the true nonconsensus existent between economists as to whether RPM is deleterious enough to justify a stringent approach to RPM regulation. Part II closely examines the EU origins and current legal structure where RPM has maintained its hardcore by-object designation pursuant to Art. 101(1) TFEU with the consequence of having no safe harbours no applicability of the De Minimus Doctrine an onerous negative rebuttable presumption non-severability of the agreement and almost no chance of obtaining an exemption under Art. 101(3). This is exacerbated by the EC’s lack of guidance on how to prove all conditions necessary for an Art. 101(3) exemption and when a vertical arrangement actually escapes Art. 101(1) applicability. The aim of this book is to examine the economic models historical origins and legal structures of the US/EU regimes to develop proposals on how to modify the EU’s current legal structure to ensure proper enforcement of RPM behaviour that actually enhances legal certainty through a more aligned approach at the national level. Part III proposes five solutions which scrutinise the concepts of appreciability hardcore and by-object restraints to implement modifications to EU’s current legal framework to ensure RPM receives reasonable and equitable treatment in line with economic theory. | Resale Price Maintenance and the Law The Future of Vertical Restraints

Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapies for Autoimmune Diseases

Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapies for Autoimmune Diseases

This book summarizes the global progress in medical and scientific research toward converting traditionally chronic autoimmune diseases into a drug-free reversible illness using hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) and other cellular therapies such as T regulatory cells (Treg) mesenchymal stromal/stem cells and chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR T) cells in order to reintroduce sustained immune tolerance. This title provides information on different types of stem cells and immune cells; post-transplant immune regeneration; cellular regulatory requirements; ethical and economic considerations; and the advantages and disadvantages of HSCT in the treatment of a variety of autoimmune diseases versus current conventional treatments. Arranged by disease the text provides a comprehensive guide to HSCT for all types of autoimmune/immune disorders including monogenetic autoimmune diseases; autoimmune aplastic anemia; neurologic immune diseases including multiple sclerosis chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy neuromyelitis optica and stiff person syndrome; rheumatologic diseases such as systemic sclerosis and systemic lupus erythematosus; dermatologic diseases such as pemphigus; gastrointestinal disorders such as Crohn’s disease and celiac disease; and immune-mediated endocrinologic disease type I diabetes mellitus. Guidance is provided on the transplantation technique cell collection and processing conditioning regimens infections and early and late complications. Key Features Outlines therapies and techniques for HSCT for autoimmune diseases Discusses the advantages of HSCT over conventional therapies Reviews the entire process of stem cell therapy from harvest and ethics to indications efficacy and regulatory oversight | Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapies for Autoimmune Diseases
