Infectious Diseases and Pathology of Reptiles Color Atlas and Text Diseases and Pathology of Reptiles Volume 1

Infectious Diseases and Pathology of Reptiles Second Edition provides definitive information on every aspect of the anatomy pathophysiology and differential diagnosis of infectious diseases affecting reptiles. It features stunning high-quality color photos of normal anatomy and histology as well as gross light and electron microscopic images of infectious diseases of reptiles. Editor Elliott Jacobson draws on his own photography collection and his wealth of experience spanning over 40 years in the research of infectious diseases and veterinary care of reptiles. Already a comprehensive reference a new volume covering noninfectious diseases of reptiles has now been added to create a two-volume set Diseases and Pathology of Reptiles. Beginning with a thorough review of the biology anatomy and histology of reptiles Volume 1 covers all major systems and provides the most complete single source for color images of reptile histology hematology and cytology. Volume 1 addresses the mechanism of reptile immunology and the response to pathogens and explains how immunological response is key to differential diagnosis. It provides an overview of electron microscopy complete with electron micrographs of reptile pathogens and introduces the necessity of molecular methods for diagnosis. Finally this volume devotes several chapters to the viral bacterial fungal and parasitic diseases known to reptiles and methods for isolating these pathogens. With up-to-the-minute data an array of sharp and high-quality images and a panel of expert contributors this new edition of Infectious Diseases and Pathology of Reptiles is the definitive resource for veterinary pathologists zoo or wildlife veterinarians and the increasing number of private practice veterinarians seeing reptiles kept as exotic pets. The Poems of Robert Browning: Volume Five The Ring and the Book Books 1-6

The Poems of Robert Browning: Volume Five The Ring and the Book Books 1-6

The Ring and the Book published serially in 1868–9 is one of the most daring and innovative poems in the English language. The story is based on the trial of an Italian nobleman Guido Franceschini for the murder of his wife Pompilia in Rome in 1698. Browning’s discovery of the ‘old yellow book’ a bundle of legal documents and letters relating to the trial on a second-hand market stall in Florence sparked an imaginative engagement with this sordid tale of domestic cruelty adultery and greed which grew through four years of arduous labour into an epic peopled not by gods and warriors but by concrete recognisably human beings. Fusing the technique of the dramatic monologue the form he had made his own with the grandeur of classical epic and the vivid realism of the modern novel Browning created a unique hybrid form that allowed him not only to bring to life an entire historical period but also to reflect on the process of artistic creation itself – the forging of the golden ‘ring’ of the poem from the ‘pure crude fact’ of its historical original. This edition comprising volumes 5 and 6 in the acclaimed Longman Annotated English Poets edition of Browning’s poems does full justice to the scope and depth of Browning’s achievement. The headnote in volume 5 gives an authoritative account of the poem’s composition publication sources and reception making use of hitherto unpublished letters and textual material. In addition to giving readers help where needed with historical and linguistic comprehension the notes track Browning’s formidable range of allusion from the most erudite to the most vulgar. The appendices in volume 6 present a selection from the original sources a list of variants from extant proofs and key passages from Browning’s fascinating and revealing correspondence with one of the earliest readers of the poem Julia Wedgwood. The aim is to enable readers not just to understand the poem as an object of study but to take pleasure in its abounding intellectual and emotional energies. | The Poems of Robert Browning: Volume Five The Ring and the Book Books 1-6

Kaplan's Principles of Plant Morphology

Kaplan's Principles of Plant Morphology

Kaplan's Principles of Plant Morphology defines the field of plant morphology providing resources examples and theoretical constructs that illuminate the foundations of plant morphology and clearly outline the importance of integrating a fundamental understanding of plant morphology into modern research in plant genetics development and physiology. As research on developmental genetics and plant evolution emerges an understanding of plant morphology is essential to interpret developmental and morphological data. The principles of plant morphology are being brought into studies of crop development biodiversity and evolution during climate change and increasingly such researchers are turning to old texts to uncover information about historic research on plant morphology. Hence there is great need for a modern reference and textbook that highlights past studies and provides the synthesis of data necessary to drive our future research in plant morphological and developmental evolution. Key Features Numerous illustrations demonstrating the principles of plant morphology Historical context for interpretations of more recent genetic data Firmly rooted in the principles of studying plant form and function Provides evolutionary framework without relying on evolutionary interpretations for plant form Only synthetic treatment of plant morphology on the market Related Titles Les D.
