Getting Started with Onshape

Getting Started with Onshape

Onshape is an exciting completely cloud based CAD tool. Getting Started with Onshape is a quick paced guide geared towards users who have no experience with 2D or 3D modeling. This edition has been fully updated to match all the recent changes to Onshape. This edition also features new content covering sheet metal features (including flat pattern views) hole tables parts lists and using standard content. Because Onshape can be used for free it opens up CAD to anybody who is interested in creating their own models including members of the bourgeoning Maker community and students who want to learn how to use 3D design tools. Because Onshape is 100% cloud based there is no software to install and it is always up to date. New features are available to use as soon as they are ready. The good news is that the tools as outlined in this book will continue to work the same way even as Onshape evolves. This book guides you through the very basics of how to create models make engineering drawings and bill of materials and finally export to an stl file which can be used to create a 3D print. Then you can send your stl file to one of many local or online shops that can print out an stl file. When you have completed this book you will have taken the first step to the Maker Faire journey. In the first chapter of Getting Started with Onshape you will learn how to create an account explore the workspace and learn how to share your documents with other people. Chapter two features a project where you are guided step by step to design your own singlet ring. Throughout this chapter you will learn many of the basic tools you will need to use in nearly every project you create. The third chapter features a project where you create all the parts of a scooter. This project builds on what you learned previously to create more complex designs while new features of Onshape are introduced. In the remaining chapters you will learn how to import parts from other CAD systems assemble the parts of your scooter create a set of engineering drawings for your scooter add and use apps from the Onshape app store to extend the capabilities of Onshape and complete several more projects.

Learning Disability and Inclusion Phobia Past Present Future

The social position of learning disabled people has shifted rapidly over the last 20 years from long-stay institutions first into community homes and day centres and now to a currently emerging goal of ordinary lives for individuals using person-centred support and personal budgets. These approaches promise to replace a century and a half of scientific pathological models based on expert assessment and of the accompanying segregated social administration which determined how and where people led their lives and who they were. This innovative volume explains how concepts of learning disability intellectual disability and autism first came about describes their more recent evolution in the formal disciplines of psychology and shows the direct relevance of this historical knowledge to present and future policy practice and research. Goodey argues that learning disability is not a historically stable category and different people are considered learning disabled as it changes over time. Using psychological and anthropological theory he identifies the deeper lying pathology as inclusion phobia in which the tendency of human societies to establish an in-group and to assign out-groups reaches an extreme point. Thus the disability we call intellectual is a concept essential only to an era in which to be human is essentially to be deemed intelligent autonomous and capable of rational choice. Interweaving the author's historical scholarship with his practice-based experience in the field Learning Disability and Inclusion Phobia challenges myths about the past as well as about present-day concepts exposing both the historical continuities and the radical discontinuities in thinking about learning disability. | Learning Disability and Inclusion Phobia Past Present Future

The Transformation of Modernity Aspects of the Past Present and Future of an Era

Indigenous Archives in Postcolonial Contexts Recalling the Past in Africa

Indigenous Archives in Postcolonial Contexts Recalling the Past in Africa

Indigenous Archives in Postcolonial Contexts revisits the definition of a record and extends it to include memory murals rock art paintings and other objects. Drawing on five years of research and examples from Zimbabwe Botswana and South Africa the authors analyse archives in the African context. Considering issues such as authentication ownership and copyright the book considers how murals and their like can be used as extended or counter archives. Arguing that extended archives can reach people in a way that traditional archives cannot and that such archives can be used to bridge the gaps identified within archival repositories the authors also examine how such archives are managed and authenticated using traditional archival principles. Presenting case studies from organisations such as Gay and Lesbian Memory in Action Archives (GALA) and heritage projects such as the Makgabeng Open Cultural Museum the authors also analyse Indigenous family praises and songs and explore how such records are preserved and transmitted to the next generation. Indigenous Archives in Postcolonial Contexts demonstrates how the voices of the marginalised can be incorporated into archives. Making an important contribution to the effort to decolonise African archives the book will be essential reading for academics and students working in archival studies library and information science Indigenous studies African studies cultural heritage history and anthropology. | Indigenous Archives in Postcolonial Contexts Recalling the Past in Africa

Quaternary Vegetation Dynamics The African Pollen Database

Quaternary Vegetation Dynamics The African Pollen Database

This book celebrates the relaunch of the African Pollen Database presents state-of-the-art of modern and ancient pollen data from sub-Saharan Africa and promotes Open Access science. Pollen grains are powerful tools for the study of past vegetation dynamics because they preserve well within sedimentary deposits and have a huge diversity in ornamentation that allows different taxa to be determined. The reconstruction of past vegetation from the examination of ancient pollen records thus can be used to characterize the nature of past landscapes (e. g. abundance of forests vs. grasslands) provide insights into changes in biodiversity and gain empirical evidence of vegetation response to climatic change and human activity. In this the 35th Volume of Palaeoecology of Africa we bring together new data and extensive synthetic reviews to provide novel insights into the relationships between human evolution human activity climate change and vegetation dynamics during the Quaternary the last 2. 6 million years. Current and ongoing climate and land-use change is exerting pressure on modern vegetation formations and threatening the livelihoods and wellbeing of many peoples in Africa. In this book the focus is on the Quaternary because it is during this geological period that the modern vegetation formations developed into their current configurations against a backdrop of high magnitude global climate change (glacial-interglacial cycles) human evolution and a growing human land-use footprint. In this book the latest information is presented and collated from around the African continent to parameterize past vegetation states identify the drivers of vegetation change and assess the vegetation resilience to change. To achieve this research from two broad themes are covered: (i) the present is the key to the past (i. e. studies which improve our understanding of modern environments so that we can better interpret evidence from the past) and (ii) the past is the key to the future (i. e. studies which unlock information on how and why vegetation changed in the past so one can better anticipate trajectories of future change). This Open Access book will provide a strong foundation for future research exploring past ecological environmental and climatic change within Africa and the surrounding islands. The book is organized regionally (covering western eastern central and southern Africa) and it contains specialized articles focused on particular topics (such as modern pollen-vegetation relationships and fire as a driver of vegetation change) as well as regional and pan-African syntheses drawing together decades of research to assess key scientific questions (including the role of climate in driving vegetation change and the role of vegetation change in human evolution). These articles will be useful to students and teachers from high school to the highest level of university who are interested in the origins and dynamics of vegetation in Africa. Furthermore it is also meant to provide societally relevant information that can act as an inspiration for the development of sustainable management practices for the future. | Quaternary Vegetation Dynamics The African Pollen Database
