It addresses developing your strategic plan with a clear sense of mission vision and values; moves on to topics such as financial planning pricing contracts scheduling and considerations about presentation styles and handouts; and gets down to the specifics of marketing with ideas on business cards websites networking and even how to dress. For anyone contemplating embarking on a career as a diversity consultant – either part-time while holding an existing position or as a full-time endeavor this is an invaluable guide for getting started and for keeping at your side as you develop your practice. | The Diversity Consultant Cookbook Preparing for the Challenge

Food and Knowledge in Renaissance Italy Bartolomeo Scappi's Paper Kitchens

Food and Knowledge in Renaissance Italy Bartolomeo Scappi's Paper Kitchens

Though Bartolomeo Scappi's Opera (1570) the first illustrated cookbook is well known to historians of food up to now there has been no study of its illustrations unique in printed books through the early seventeenth century. In Food and Knowledge in Renaissance Italy Krohn both treats the illustrations in Scappi's cookbook as visual evidence for a lost material reality; and through the illustrations including several newly-discovered hand-colored examples connects Scappi's Opera with other types of late Renaissance illustrated books. What emerges from both of these approaches is a new way of thinking about the place of cookbooks in the history of knowledge. Krohn argues that with the increasing professionalization of many skills and trades Scappi was at the vanguard of a new way of looking not just at the kitchen-as workshop or laboratory-but at the ways in which artisanal knowledge was visualized and disseminated by a range of craftsmen from engineers to architects. The recipes in Scappi's Opera belong on the one hand to a genre of cookery books household manuals and courtesy books that was well established by the middle of the sixteenth century but the illustrations suggest connections to an entirely different and emergent world of knowledge. It is through study of the illustrations that these connections are discerned explained and interpreted. As one of the most important cookbooks for early modern Europe the time is ripe for a focused study of Scappi's Opera in the various contexts in which Krohn frames it: book history antiquarianism and visual studies. | Food and Knowledge in Renaissance Italy Bartolomeo Scappi's Paper Kitchens

Neurological Rehabilitation Spasticity and Contractures in Clinical Practice and Research

Neurological Rehabilitation Spasticity and Contractures in Clinical Practice and Research

This book is the first attempt at bringing together a volume of work from a range of professionals with an interest in spasticity. The framework for the definition was developed in part by the authors contributing chapters that make up this volume. The book represents the current state-of-the-art regarding definition measurement pathophysiology (all state-of-the-art summaries) and simultaneously gives clinicians guidance on clinical management. This work combines coverage of both spasticity and contractures as these two phenomena are often closely interrelated. Current researchers do not differentiate between these individual impairments and as such there is significant confusion in the literature. This book discusses both conditions and then separates them into their respective components. If these two conditions co-exist (which is generally the case) then the management of a patient will need to be customized to individual clinical presentation. The clinical sections of the book are all written by currently practicing and research active clinicians and the earlier chapters are written by researchers currently working on spasticity. In summary this book: Provides information that is clinically relevant and strongly researched Includes clinical studies covering both spasticity and contractures which is unique Presents editors and contributors that are world-class experts Takes a cookbook approach to measurements in clinical studies and research Contains extensive references that are included at the end of each chapter | Neurological Rehabilitation Spasticity and Contractures in Clinical Practice and Research

Understanding Statistics for the Social Sciences with IBM SPSS

Understanding Statistics for the Social Sciences with IBM SPSS

Modern statistical software provides the ability to compute statistics in a timely orderly fashion. This introductory statistics textbook presents clear explanations of basic statistical concepts and introduces students to the IBM SPSS program to demonstrate how to conduct statistical analyses via the popular point-and-click and the syntax file methods. The focal point is to show students how easy it is to analyse data using SPSS once they have learned the basics. Provides clear explanation of basic statistical concepts that provides the foundation for the beginner students’ statistical journey. Introduces the SPSS software program. Gives clear explanation of the purpose of specific statistical procedures (e. g. frequency distributions measures of central tendencies measures of variability etc. ). Avoids the conventional cookbook approach that contributes very little to students’ understanding of the rationale of how the correct results were obtained. The advantage of learning the IBM SPSS software package at the introductory class level is that most social sciences students will employ this program in their later years of study. This is because SPSS is one of the most popular of the many statistical packages currently available. Learning how to use this program at the very start not only familiarizes students with the utility of this program but also provides them with the experience to employ the program to conduct more complex analyses in their later years. | Understanding Statistics for the Social Sciences with IBM SPSS

Measuring Workplace Performance

Measuring Workplace Performance

Most Fortune 1000 companies still struggle with workspace planning and design issues. They invest millions of dollars each year with the expectation that new buildings and major renovations will help transform their culture support innovation strengthen desired behaviors and increase organizational effectiveness. And let's not forget reducing costs. But there is rarely any actual measurement of the success of a new workplace against specific business or design goals (apart from cost savings). Even less often is there any ongoing measurement program to assess and improve the quality of the workplace. Measuring Workplace Performance Second Edition explores a fundamentally new way of thinking about how organizations behave and change and what this means for planning and measuring the success of the facilities that house them. This is not a planning guide or a step by step design cookbook. Rather author Michael O'Neill presents a thought-provoking biological model for thinking about organizations and workplaces describes the tools to gather information and analyze success and presents plenty of scientific case studies with hard performance and financial metrics. O'Neill addresses issues such as:What are the effects of adding flexibility into facility and workplace design in terms of improving employee and organizational performance? How do we measure the performance of facilities in terms of supporting desired behaviors (like communication collaboration) efficient business processes and other concrete performance/financial improvements?Using real-world case studies across a variety of industries O'Neill shows the types of performance measures that leading-edge companies use as well as the improvements they attain by incorporating flexibility and control into their workspaces. He uses the data from these studies to create models showing credible links between specific design features and behavioral and business process outco

Managing the PSTN Transformation A Blueprint for a Successful Migration to IP-Based Networks

Managing the PSTN Transformation A Blueprint for a Successful Migration to IP-Based Networks

While there are many scholarly books and papers that cover the technical issues behind the public switched telephone network (PSTN) migration few books describe exactly how to manage the migration process economically. Filling this need Managing the PSTN Transformation: A Blueprint for a Successful Migration to IP-Based Networks reflects the latest understanding of the challenges behind migrating customers from the old PSTN network to an IP infrastructure. The IP transformation blueprint described in this book is not a theoretical cookbook that describes how this could work. Instead the book presents a blueprint that is the product of countless hours of work by hundreds of individuals at Deutsche Telekom (DT) over almost two years. The book presents insights gained as the DT team migrated the entire public switched telephone network in Macedonia to an Internet protocol-based platform. It illustrates the various types of challenges the team faced in integrating complex systems including flight control at their airports alarms for fire and police response and large enterprise customers. Detailing new conceptual approaches and the best practices developed for ensuring knowledge transfer within the DT group the book presents the information in a step-by-step manner to enable you to easily adapt the blueprint for particular service provider requirements. Since successful migration relies on key aspects beyond the technological side this work provides you with a product portfolio roadmap migration plan IT roadmap business case framework and a go-to-market plan. Although the book discusses the experiences of the Deutsche Telekom team as they worked to migrate the telephone network in Macedonia to an Internet protocol-based platform the IP transformation blueprint and lessons learned presented can easily be scaled up and applied to any market around the world. | Managing the PSTN Transformation A Blueprint for a Successful Migration to IP-Based Networks
