The Handbook of Climate Change Leadership in Organisations Developing Leadership for the Age of Sustainability

The Handbook of Climate Change Leadership in Organisations Developing Leadership for the Age of Sustainability

Climate change is one of the most significant and challenging problems we face today and many organisations have recognised their responsibility in reducing emissions and environmental degradation and regenerating biodiversity. However conventional leadership has failed to respond adequately to the magnitude of the threat and a profound change in corporate leadership is required to substantively cut emissions and change climate policy to minimise further destructive environmental impact. This book sets out the qualities and approaches needed by leaders to successfully develop and implement climate change mitigation and adaptation policies. Bringing together the foremost experts in climate change leadership from business leadership psychology and coaching backgrounds this book addresses the failures of current leadership practice and proposes a variety of models of how climate change leadership capabilities can be effectively developed in organisations. It is structured around four concepts: foundations which includes models of environmental ecological and evolutionary leadership; transitions which looks at transformational and ethical models that are being repurposed for the age of sustainability; progressions which explores innovative models that are being developed for the current age including systems adaptation and maturity-based models of leadership; and actions which includes models of sustainable goal setting and climate leadership coaching and development. The book is written for corporate leaders researchers and educators and will be an invaluable addition to the leadership curriculum and executive development programmes to help the next generation of leaders respond to global challenges. | The Handbook of Climate Change Leadership in Organisations Developing Leadership for the Age of Sustainability

Leadership in the Asia Pacific A Global Research Perspective

Global Leadership A Transnational Perspective

Global Leadership A Transnational Perspective

The clash of cultures coupled with rapid technological advances seems to be pushing us in paradoxical directions. On the one hand the world seems to be falling apart; while on the other the world seems to be converging. Do we have thoughtful leaders to guide us through these uncertain times? As globalization breaks down barriers global leaders are becoming more visible players on the world stage. From executives of multinational corporations (e. g. high-tech entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley) to social activists (e. g. Malala Yousafzai) individuals from many different cultural backgrounds and ages are reshaping the way we see global leadership. These global leaders have to contend with a variety of transnational contexts that call for different leadership styles. This book assesses four of these styles – transactional participatory transformational and directive – with representative case studies for each. It provides practical skills that global leaders must master in order to be more effective at the transnational level – cultivating a global mindset; developing intercultural communication; leveraging diversity and inclusion; and managing intercultural conflict. Global Leadership is valuable reading for educators in undergraduate and graduate leadership programs; practitioners involved in global for-profit and nonprofit organizations; and leadership educators interested in exploring the impact of technology on global leadership. It provides an excellent balance between the study and practice of global leadership. | Global Leadership A Transnational Perspective

Leadership in the Construction Industry Developing Authentic Leaders in a Dynamic World

Leadership in the Construction Industry Developing Authentic Leaders in a Dynamic World

This book presents a new framework for leadership in the construction industry which draws from the authentic leadership construct. The framework has three major themes: self-leadership self-transcendent leadership and sustainable leadership. Despite its significance leadership has not been given due importance in the construction industry as focus is placed on managerial functionalism. At the project level even with the technological advances in the industry in recent years construction is realized in the form of people undertaking distinct interdependent activities which require effective leadership. The industry faces many challenges including: demanding client requirements and project parameters; more stringent regulations codes and systems; intense competition in the industry; and threats from disruptive enterprise. In such a complex environment technology-driven and tool-based project and corporate management is insufficient. It must be complemented by a strategic genuine stakeholder-focused and ethical leadership. Leadership in the Construction Industry is based on a study on authentic leadership and its development in Singapore. Leadership theories and concepts are reviewed; the importance of leadership in the construction industry is discussed; and the grounded theory approach which was applied in the study is explained. Many eminent construction professionals in Singapore were interviewed in the field study. Emerging from the experiences of the leaders documented in this book are three major themes: (1) self-leadership: how leaders engage in various self-related processes such as self-awareness self-regulation and role modeling. (2) self-transcendent leadership: how leaders go beyond leading themselves to leading others through servant leadership shared leadership spiritual leadership and socially-responsible leadership; and finally (3) sustainable leadership or the strategies leaders employ to make the impact of their leadership lasting. A synthesis of these themes and their implications for leadership development is presented before the book concludes with some recommendations for current and aspiring leaders about how they can engage with them. This book is essential reading for all construction practitioners from all backgrounds; and researchers on leadership and management in construction. | Leadership in the Construction Industry Developing Authentic Leaders in a Dynamic World

Transformational Plane Geometry

Transformational Plane Geometry

Designed for a one-semester course at the junior undergraduate level Transformational Plane Geometry takes a hands-on interactive approach to teaching plane geometry. The book is self-contained defining basic concepts from linear and abstract algebra gradually as needed. The text adheres to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Principles and Standards for School Mathematics and the Common Core State Standards Initiative Standards for Mathematical Practice. Future teachers will acquire the skills needed to effectively apply these standards in their classrooms. Following Felix Klein’s Erlangen Program the book provides students in pure mathematics and students in teacher training programs with a concrete visual alternative to Euclid’s purely axiomatic approach to plane geometry. It enables geometrical visualization in three ways: Key concepts are motivated with exploratory activities using software specifically designed for performing geometrical constructions such as Geometer’s Sketchpad. Each concept is introduced synthetically (without coordinates) and analytically (with coordinates). Exercises include numerous geometric constructions that use a reflecting instrument such as a MIRA. After reviewing the essential principles of classical Euclidean geometry the book covers general transformations of the plane with particular attention to translations rotations reflections stretches and their compositions. The authors apply these transformations to study congruence similarity and symmetry of plane figures and to classify the isometries and similarities of the plane.
