Supportive Conversations on Facebook Timelines Discourse Topic Management

Supportive Conversations on Facebook Timelines Discourse Topic Management

The emergence of social networking sites like Facebook and people’s engagement with one another through them is a relatively under-researched area for discourse analysis. The content of the book revolves around Discourse Topic Management which is under the theme of Discourse Analysis. It is written to extend the very limited literature in the area of Discourse Topic especially for the discourse which takes place on social networking sites. This study discusses the characteristics of topical actions employed by English language teachers and their Facebook Friends in managing supportive conversations which take place on Timelines. In addition to employing new strategies enabled by the particular features of the site the teachers and their Friends also creatively adapt the strategies used in face-to-face conversations to manage their online conversations thus contributing to the emergence of unique characteristics of discourse topic management in the context of social networking sites. The book brings together the existing frameworks of Discourse Topic Management which are previously applied in the context of face-to-face conversations and synthesizes the frameworks for a more comprehensive model into examining the conversations which take place on Facebook Timelines. The novelty of this book lies in its synthesized framework the recontextualization of the framework for online conversations and the theoretical extension based on the data analysis presented in each chapter. Since people’s engagement with social networking sites is an emerging behaviour this timely book provides insights into the phenomenon and also proposes a comprehensive analytical framework for other researchers interested in similar contexts. | Supportive Conversations on Facebook Timelines Discourse Topic Management

Pluriversal Conversations on Transnational Feminisms And Words Collide from a Place

Pluriversal Conversations on Transnational Feminisms And Words Collide from a Place

This edited volume brings transnational feminisms in conversation with intersectional and decolonial approaches. The conversation is pluriversal; it voices and reflects upon a plurality of geo- and corpopolitical as well as epistemic locations in specific Global South/East/North/West contexts. The aim is to explore analytical modes that encourage transgressing methodological nationalisms which sustain unequal global power relations and which are still ingrained in the disciplinary perspectives that define much social science and humanities research. A main focus of the volume is methodological. It asks how an engagement with transnational intersectional and decolonial feminisms can stimulate border crossings. Boundaries in academic knowledge-building shaped by the limitations imposed by methodological nationalisms are challenged in the book. The same applies to boundaries of conventional ・ disembodied and ethically unaffected ・ academic writing modes. The transgressive methodological aims are also pursued through mixing genres and shifting boundaries between academic and creative writing. Pluriversal Conversations on Transnational Feminisms is intended for broad global audiences of researchers teachers professionals students (from undergraduate to postgraduate levels) activists and NGOs interested in questions about decoloniality intersectionality and transnational feminisms as well as in methodologies for boundary transgressing knowledge-building. | Pluriversal Conversations on Transnational Feminisms And Words Collide from a Place

Embodied Trauma and Healing Critical Conversations on the Concept of Health

Embodied Trauma and Healing Critical Conversations on the Concept of Health

What if philosophy could solve the psychological puzzle of trauma? Embodied Trauma and Healing argues just that suggesting that one might be needed in order to understand the other. The book demonstrates how the body-mind problem that haunted Descartes was addressed by phenomenologists whilst also proposing that the human experience is lived subjectively as embodied consciousness. Throughout this book the author suggests that the phenomenological tools that are used to explore the body can also be an effective way to discuss the physical and mental aspects of embodied trauma. Drawing on the work of Paul Ricœur Maurice Merleau-Ponty and Emmanuel Lévinas the book outlines a phenomenological approach to the embodied and relational subject. It offers a reading of embodied trauma that can connect it to wider conversations in psychological underpinnings of trauma through Peter Levine’s somatic research and Bessel van der Kolk’s embodied remembering. Connecting to the analytic tradition the book suggests that phenomenology can unify both language-based and body-based therapeutic practice. It also presents a compelling discussion that ties the embodied experience of relation in trauma to the wider causal factors of social suffering and relational rupture intergenerational trauma and the trauma of land as informed by phenomenology. Embodied Trauma and Healing is essential reading for researchers within the fields of philosophy psychology and medical humanities for it actively engages with contemporary configurations of trauma theory and recent research developments in healing and mental disorder diagnosis. | Embodied Trauma and Healing Critical Conversations on the Concept of Health
